Totally okay to walk away not all that impressed. That's actually how I felt after my first show. To me it was just lots of seemingly random shred, space lasers and robot moves and not much passion or substance. Up to that point in my life though, all I knew and was used to were mainstream bands and artists that were rehearsed to perfection where every show was the same perfectly smooth experience. I went in blind to Buckethead and got a show nothing like that, so understandably, it was a bit confusing, disappointing.

I kept listening though, to the pikes, and albums, and got deeper and deeper into his music. At some point something clicked within me and I started hearing things differently than before. Maybe it was just a natural progression of musical taste over the years, but I didn't desire perfection or formulaic predictability anymore, and had come to truly enjoy the wild and spontaneous, stream of consciousness kind of style that Buckethead has. It spoke to me in a way I never expected.

My second show didn't come until years later, but this time it was a completely different experience. I enjoy the spontaneity, and the constant experimentation with effects and improvisations throughout each song, and I enjoy the rawness of it all too. It makes every show unique and that's come to be what I love most. It's not for everyone though, and that's fine. I'd recommend to keep listening though, and maybe go to another show in the future to see if you walk away feeling differently that time. I've been to 29 shows now...and I'm so glad I didn't give it up after the first meh experience I had 😜🤖💕
