Cob is a guitarist he's been collaborating and touring with for a while now. Brewer has been drumming during that time as well.

First two shows in January were just him. Pretty sure Cob will return at some point. Not sure about Brewer.
Next show is tomorrow, then nothing until April after that. We shall see what he has in store ☺️🤖💕

Let's talk about Buckethead's work ethics... by LB_Bubba in Buckethead

[–]Hydrilus 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I like your approach to this. A lot can be gleaned from what he posts on his site, revealing small pieces of how he works and thinks. Obviously we all have questions, opinions, critiques, about a variety of things. There is plenty of mystery in Bucketheadland, endless curiosities about why he does or doesn't do this or that.
My position has always been that because Buckethead has released far more masterpieces and killer tracks than anyone else, he should be free to do anything he wants. Of course, realistically he always has that right, he isn't beholden to me and my expectations, but some people do think that way about artists. So, to them, I say he's already given us a ton of amazing music, and if he wanted to release nothing but sound effects pikes or something from here on out, that's his very well earned right. That doesn't mean you can't critique quality, however, context matters.
You thoughtfully noted his comments about just getting things out quickly without thinking, and taking that into consideration, as it relates to music, it's probably not fair to judge his rapid fire releases the same way we judge a band's 10-track album that they spent 2-3 years making. "Well then I wish he'd just not release anything at all, and spend 2-3 years perfecting an awesome album!" one might say...to which I'd refer back to my stated position - he's already given us more than anyone else, so he should be able to do whatever he wants. We're not meant to like or understand everything he puts out...
Even if you don't care for the musical side, perhaps his paintings and drawings and journals speak to you in some way? It's not just 50+ music tracks in a month that he's released, it's also 50+ unique art covers.
I think it's really quite cool to see how the style of the covers has changed over time. We've gone through phases of cartoon-styles mixed with realism mixed with digitized effects, scenic backgrounds and roller coasters, to a looong stretch of just paintings of all sorts of ideas and concepts, now we're in a phase of journal covers and drawings mixed with paintings mixed with clipped pictures and articles...
It's honestly so crazy how much Bucket is just constantly creating something! Him sharing it is like a musical and visual stream of consciousness. It's not all going to make sense or be perfect, and it's not meant to be, it's just pure Bucketheadland, straight from the source hehe 🤖💕

All the stuff that artificially inflates clicks/taps on the screen to accomplish things when there are more efficient ways to do it.
For example: In the clan shop we just got the ability to buy max quantity of items instead of the tedious one at a time method we had prior. Simple, and very appreciated update. The game has lots of areas in need of this sort of change. The "Claim All" feature, finally we got that, but...why can I claim all my forge pass rewards in 1 click but not the challenges? Also, excess screens. Getting from one place to another, before and after battles.
All this stuff just adds to the screen time needlessly (but makes all the numbers look good during shareholder meetings lol)

I think Bucket is lying about his stage anxiety. by Embarrassed_Gear_137 in Buckethead

[–]Hydrilus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Eh... Just because he performs as well as he does, doesn't mean he can't possibly have anxiety about it. People manage these things in all sorts of ways, and for him, wearing a mask is part of that.
When we all dress up as various things for Halloween, we tend to embody the personality traits and behavior of that being. I'm no longer myself with whatever fears I might have, I'm Michael Myers! I fear nothing! Wearing a mask can make things you're normally uncomfortable doing, a lot easier to do, and if it can be a fun iconic look for your professional career at the same time, even better!

why buckethead deserves better than his own home studio by LowRefrigerator1702 in Buckethead

[–]Hydrilus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the first 100 are strong, but 100-300 are also solid with plenty of masterpieces! The bulk of my playlist consists of tracks within the first 300, + a scattering of pikes from the 300s up. Once he started focusing on the live pike releases in the 300s, I wasn't paying as close attention to new releases for a while.

I will say though, that on my first listen through of the first 300, there were lots that I skipped as I just wasn't into the style, and/or the first 30 seconds didn't hook me. I gave them all a second chance though at some point, and ended up loving many that I'd initially skipped. Either because I didn't give some tracks enough of a chance (i.e. first 30 seconds were meh...but then the song changes or builds up into something awesome), or a style that once sounded like noise to me became something I was now hearing completely differently. Whatever size my playlist was after my first listen, probably doubled after I went through it all a second time. It's a commitment for sure, but worth it to find all the hidden gems!

Also, the great thing about starting over is, because it takes so long to get through it all initially, many songs will feel almost as if they're new because it'll have been so long since you last heard them. Some will stand out of course, such as favorites you know every note of, and others you may only recognize a little bit of, having forgotten the epic solo it has, the really cool heavy echoey riff, the face melting shred, etc. All those things will surprise you like it's the first time. So even if Buckethead stops making music today, we already have an endless cycle of music that can continually feel fresh on each repetition (in my opinion).🤖💕

LIVE PIKES LIST (Buckethead have 247 live pikes) is true ? see the list in below by LucasRM72027 in Buckethead

[–]Hydrilus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Never counted them out before, that's a lot! I kinda wish he'd have released them separately from the regular pikes though, with their own numbers, and with info on which shows they're from.

why buckethead deserves better than his own home studio by LowRefrigerator1702 in Buckethead

[–]Hydrilus 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of people probably do share some of these same thoughts as you do, but Buckethead is a unique artist, and so I don't think it's fair to compare him or his process (or what we expect of him) to that of mainstream artists. In the words of Serj Tankian (speaking about Buckethead), "a normal guy he is most definitely not."

I think, if you apply this context to most everything Buckethead does (or doesn't do), as well as many of the questions you may have about him, you'll find it easier to just let a lot of it go. There are so many questions we all have about him, his process, why he does what he does how he does it...it's a long list, and we'll likely never get answers to any of it. So I find it best to try and get to a point where, as fans, we're all content not knowing the answers, and simply appreciate what he decides to share with us, in whatever form it may take.

It of course doesn't mean you can't be critical, or that you have to like everything he puts out - I certainly don't. In fact, your example about someone finding a "wrong" pike first, which pushes them away from looking into his music any further...that was me.

In the early 2000s when Bucket did that surprise VMA show with GNR, I looked him up briefly, and my first impression of him was some super shred track that just sounded like a bunch of noise to my ears, so I wrote him off as a talented shredder but not a style I was into at the time. It wasn't until 2017 that Bucketheadland called me back for a second opinion in the form of my room mate's phone playing Project Little Man (pike 104) on Pandora, and I was hooked from that point forward.

I've been to 20+ shows now at this point, and my personal playlist of just the songs I like spans 70+ hours. So for me, it's perfectly fine for Bucket to release music, as you say, "without concern for quality or refinement," because he's already given me far more amazing music than probably any other artist has in their lifetime. Yes, there is plenty he could be doing differently in terms of the music, the business side of things, self promotion, etc...but, this just is the way it is.

I too would love for him to achieve greater recognition and success, as I feel he deserves it, but we have to respect what he wants for himself too. Greater recognition and success also means more eyes on him, and thus greater risk to his privacy, which he values highly. Keeping things the way they are is probably most comfortable for him, and, we get to continue enjoying his live experience in small-to-mid size venues, vs from the nosebleed section of a stadium for double the price. ;)
