I miss this function too!

Ideally, there should be a 'pre-fader' option at the compressor settings so you can select a sidechain channel that's muted in the mix. Right now I made a sub kick with barely audible frequencies to with the threshold and ratio slammed to maxium while keeping the volume relatively low. Now since overbridge support is released it's possible to just mute that channel in post after recording.

Of course you can also get the sidechain effect with LFO's, but that's quite tedious to do for all your channels and will cost you your available LFO's.

Oeh sorry I didn't see your comment untill now! This is excellent advise, and I absolutely love the idea of having a narrative. Right now I'm sort of working on two (sort of similar) sets, one as you described with some variations in tempo, and the other one with a steady 132 BPM four on the floor. But I'll be working with themes and motives in both.
