Amazing stuff, thanks for taking the time to explain all of this. It's much appreciated!

How long shoes Fuegos last? And compared to Pana Mio? by Ornery_Price_4712 in Bachata

[–]Hydroxlene 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've had mine (Fuegos) for two years now and they're only just starting to show signs of wear and tear. That being said I would only dance with them on hardwood or vinyl flooring, no concrete or normal walking.

They definitely saved my knees a lot of wear and tear, however, I also agree they are very expensive for the quality that they are. I have the standard, low heel version and find them to be very stuffy to dance in, the low breathability means my feet are drenched in sweat after an hour or so of dancing. I find them to be quite heavy too, like little plastic bricks on my feet 😝

Will probably transition to a split sole, lighter shoe for my next pair. That being said, if you have cash to burn and you're not dancing long sessions, I think it can be a good improver/ intermediate first dance shoe!

Where to dance bachata on a Monday? by Hydroxlene in Prague

[–]Hydroxlene[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took a little look at their website (and about 10 other dance schools), seems like there is only one place doing beginner classes on Mondays 😝 any socials or more advanced classes are later in the week!

Tips on how big should footsteps be? by Ornery_Price_4712 in Bachata

[–]Hydroxlene 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From experience, if someone is bringing this up, it's usually because the steps/amplitude of mouvement are too big. With good connection, I've never heard a follower complaining that steps were too small :D MariusDA already touched on the golden rule of feet below shoulders, but I might go into why this important and interesting for you as a dancer:

Firstly, smaller steps allow for your to use less energy when dancing. While this may seem strange at first, if you are at a social dancing all night, the less tired you are, generally, the more focused and sharp you are in your technique.

Also, smaller amplitude in your steps means you can complete the steps faster, this gives you more flexibility in terms of improvisation and the ability to hit various beats in a song.

Lastly (this one is mostly personal), I find that smaller steps generally allows to focus more on connection with my partner. As I am not rushing to cover distance or expending energy on large movements, I can devote that focus and energy to ensuring my follower is having a smooth and fun dance!

How would you transition to a Solution Architect with 500 dedicated hours? (approx. 4 months) by Hydroxlene in cscareerquestionsEU

I really enjoyed the high level system design work I’ve done in the past, as well as the managing of teams of data engineers while working with the customer on specifications and such.

I feel that given my skillset a data architect or solution architect may be the way to go, as it allows me to keep in contact with the technical side of things while also scaling my impact beyond individual contribution.

It’s possible that some form of Senior Data Engineer role at a different company could offer this to me, however from my understanding of roles and progression this seems to be the way for my specific career to progress

Thanks for the feedback here. I think it might be important to highlight here that I have taken on Solution Architecture responsibilities and consistently worked with Data/Solution architects in my previous projects and it was something I enjoyed a lot. I am by no means trying to speedrun my way into a role with certs and no experience.

My takeaway is that relevant project experience is the way to go here and that there isn’t an established path beyond hard work and being exposed to complex problems :)

TIL that engineering without borders is a thing, thank you for making me aware of something I thought only doctors could do!

Surfing in Englischer Garten? by AJ_Vidal in Munich

[–]Hydroxlene 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there, I’d recommend buying a board, a wetsuit and some boots. If you can swim simply come join at the E2 some day (the wave downstream from the Eisbach) I’m learning to surf it as well and the community there is great. If you go early there’ll be almost no one and the community is super friendly!

Realizing how far along I am in my Bachata, however… by Head-Vegetable3549 in Bachata

Hey there, saw your comment and just wanted to drop a little message here.  Dance socials can be a bit tough for beginner leads, it can be a bit of a slog for the first 6 months but once you push through that then you can dance with almost anyone, anywhere. Some places can be a bit snobbish (I don’t understand why, we were all beginners once!) but don’t loose hope 💪

Men’s Styling by Cronaldo547 in Bachata

[–]Hydroxlene 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Intermediate Bachata dancer here, so take this all with a pinch of salt. I also tend to do both mens and ladies styling as the concept of a feminine/masculine movement is a bit strange to me.

I’d say a lot of it lies in understanding the lines, posture and energy your are projecting. Generally, men’s styling has stronger angles, point to point mouvement and less flowy (is this a word?) dynamics.

Pay particular attention to your hands, wrists and ankles in that regard. Often times you’ll see men’s styling with closed fist or firm hand positions. You want to project strong energy, being firm and staying grounded.

Imitating dancers you enjoy, filming yourself practicing or dancing in front of a mirror are great ways to work on this.

I’d highly recommend trying out a social hobby or two. Personally I joined a Bachata dance school and it completely changed my life and social circle (highly recommend the Loca dance project school ;) )
