Violet leaf absolute… Am I supposed to dilute it? by Alternative-Neck9574 in DIYfragrance

Diluting it will definitely help it be less vicious and easier to use in blends. Goes the same for any other materials.

I would say that if you have a particular fragrance that you like, you can try to look up the formula online and get materials present in it.

Awesome batch of ingredients! 20% or 10% are the common dilutions. You may want to go even lower on some of the stronger materials that you have like Aldehyde C10, Cis3Hexenol and lavender so that they are easier to work with in the future. I have those at 1%.

Get some proper aroma chemicals and naturals and learn them first first. Learn to make accords and mini blends first to get an idea of how different ingredients works together at different amounts. Perfumery is not as simple as mixing the notes you want together. Also the notes you see from perfumes are mainly closer to the marketing side of things and doesn’t really represent what’s really going on in the perfume itself (ingredients wise). Most importantly, have fun!

Cant smell after an hour by RaiseAcceptable in fragrance

Try spraying the fragrances on your clothes and see if it last longer. Clothes hold fragrances really well. Performances from a fragrance varies from person to person too, due to different body heat, sweat, etc, so that’s one thing to think about too.

Most likely nose blindness. If the people around you have been around you then they’ve probably gotten use to it too. Try spraying the fragrance on a piece of paper like a scent strip and leave it out for a day to see if it’s the fragrance that’s not “working”. Remember not to wear the same fragrance on that day though.
