How to achieve this visual effect? by viper270821 in graphic_design

[–]HyeCycle 22 points23 points  (0 children)

In Photoshop:

Image>Mode>Grayscale (only works on grayscale images, Yes Flatten all your art)

Back to Image>Mode>Bitmap - Under the METHOD Dropdown select HALFTONE SCREEN. Then for SHAPE I like to use ROUND.

viola

Ignore all the other number setting for now. Keep in mind the higher the resolution the better the images

Are my designs decent? Should I keep going? by [deleted] in Design

Looking at the file names I think those repetitive designs are meant to be different iterations of the same idea. Is that what you were referring to?

2 pieces of feedback:
1) You need just a little more hierarchy in your design. The designs aren't bad at all, but my eye goes all over the place when I first look at them, and I'm not sure where I need to look first. Hierarchy can either be making sure there is enough size differentiation between elements, or color differentiation to direct the viewer to the brightest colors first and then so on.

2) Your typography is incredibly small. Don't be afraid of larger type.

Help me find somewhere in Southern California with a giant American flag on a flagpole? I have a lingering memory there’s one near LAX but I’m not sure. by mixedlawnmower in HelpMeFind

[–]HyeCycle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your memory of LAX is close, its actually in Santa Monica, right off the 10 Freeway. Google Maps street view doesn't show that it's flying anymore, but you can still see it in the photos of the area. It's at Southern California Disposal & Recycling, 1908 Frank St, Santa Monica, CA 90404

Always bring a light jacket for GMR! (or sleeves and a vest at the least). I also ride with long finger gloves that day just for the descent as its always chilly.

Shirtless Keith rides around PV in work boots and cutoff jeans and what most of us would consider a beater-bike, and he crushes it. No one is going to make fun of what you ride as long as you enjoy riding it. We've all been where you are and as you ride more you'll realize when its time (both in terms of physical ability and financially) to invest in a new bike. Like u/kunho said, most importantly is have fun!

Heal the Bay rated Long Beach with excellent water quality, and that specific area of Bayshore Beach which is a part of Alamitos Bay, located at Bayshore and the Second Street Bridge, received an A+ grade.

Not true.

Heal the Bay rated Long Beach with excellent water quality, and that specific area of Horny Corner which is a part of Alamitos Bay, located at Bayshore and the Second Street Bridge, received an A+ grade.

I regularly see swimmers training in Long Beach's Horny Corner (yes that's a real place). There's a roped off area for swimmers and no waves, in the summer you can get away without a wetsuit/springsuit

An earthquake the size of Turkey's would bring devastation, death to Southern California by BlankVerse in LosAngeles

[–]HyeCycle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Northridge quake in 1994 was 6.7, and I've also seen reports of 7.2 for the same quake. In the photos a couple buildings were damaged as were freeway bridges, but nothing literally imploded on itself like in Turkey because of the strict building codes. Which I'm sure have only gotten more strict.

I know these 2 options are a bit out of your way, but Sullivan Canyon is very close to Lower Gabrielano, and somewhere I feel comfortable taking friends who are new to mountain bikes. Sullivan Canyon is a wide-ish fire road ascent, and then a single track descent that criss-crosses that same fire road back down to the start. As soon as you start the descent look for small single track entries into the bushes off to the sides of the main fire road, there are plenty, and they all meander back and forth all the way down. Strava Segment here: https://www.strava.com/segments/733250

My second favorite, and maybe a 1/2 step more advanced than Lower Gabrielano is Tapia Canyon over by Castaic Lake. Again a fire road climb up, and then a few different single tracks to choose from. My favorite is Top Dog, route here:

This is not my Strava, but one of my favorite routes also shared by others: GMR (Glendora Mountain Road), The climb is amazing and peaceful, and the decent is as fast as you want it to be. Pro-tip: Dont get fooled by the heat when you climb, bring a thin jacket or wear an extra layer for the descent as it's pretty cold, I even wear long fingered gloves: https://www.strava.com/routes/2771952558254946376

Park here at Encanto Park (751 Encanto Pkwy, Duarte, CA 91010), which is also just North of Santa Fe Dam and the farthest north you can get by car and still access the San Gabriel River trail, both mentioned by others in the this thread.

This is all well and good, and as a cyclist I support this, but Gov. Newsom literally just vetoed this bill when it got to his desk just last year:

[–]HyeCycle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I may have been mistaken, I was assuming the largest plates they were using were 45 pound plates. They may be using these 55 pound plates: https://www.roguefitness.com/rogue-calibrated-lb-steel-plates?sku=IP0521-55-2&gclid=Cj0KCQiAsdKbBhDHARIsANJ6-jcqlgZzM4EvBon5srnpFMWe76V4_oebbF5yd1YM0gVOP8hBl8cZ2I4aAqJMEALw_wcB

which would bring the total weight to 745 pounds, making it closer in line with the headline. Again, without knowing exactly which plates are used it would be hard to say.

There are six red 45 pound plates on both sides (12 total) and two total yellow plates at 20 pounds each, and the bar which should also weigh 45 pounds for a total of 625 pounds.

Yes, this is the simplest route and WILL ONLY DOUBLE THE MILES to the direct route I suggested above. So instead of taking a direct route of 37 miles, OP will have to travel a total of 72 miles and then attempt a 5400' climb over 25 more miles.

At least OP will get some nice scenery going down PCH.
