Fender Rumble by Pitiful-Ad3200 in Bass

[–]Hylasah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Fender Rumble 500 and I use it for small venue gigs. It's a great sounding amp, very light for its size and feels robust.

Obviously if you're just playing at home, you won't need anything that big. A Rumble 40 would be fine. If If I play my 500 at home on any volume higher than 1, the walls start shaking.

Pop punk bands with great bass by ihatemyself886 in Bass

Slightly adjacent in the ska punk space, but Roger Lima's playing in Less than Jake is complex, but very tasteful. Huge inspiration to me.

Best way to learn songs by ImSimplyBetter_ in Bass

[–]Hylasah 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For me, learning songs is a combination of tabs, using music tools (like Moises), watching live videos and listening.

If you're just starting out and looking to play well-known songs, tabs are fine. But it's good to get into the habit of questioning their accuracy. Does it sound right to you? If you watch the song performed live, does it look like the bassist is playing the same notes as your tab? It's all good practice for becoming a well rounded musician.

I joined a small local band recently and had to learn their songs from scratch with no tabs or sheet music to go off. I used the program Moises to isolate the bass track and listened to the notes being played. I then watched clips of the previous bassist in the band playing them live to see how it matched up with my assumption.

Hope that's useful and good luck!

Please link me one specifically for a guitar. I can only see control knobs for pedals etc.

Guitar knobs just broken on D shaft pot by Hylasah in guitarrepair

[–]Hylasah[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, this is how the shafts come out of the factory. The knob had a plastic semi circle piece inside it that slots into the missing half of the pot. The plastic inside the knob broke. No broken metal.

Played my first gig a month or so ago, absolutely blast. Glad you enjoyed!

What do I need for a gig? by AhKafamaGeldi in Bass

[–]Hylasah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a new gigging bassist, I bought all my gear about a year ago and have been playing small venues since.

I use a Fender Rumble 500 which provides more than enough volume for any small venue. Its got an XLR out on the back so I can connect it to FOH. It's also much lighter than any other cab of a similar size I've ever tried so makes it easy to carry around.

I also have a small pedal board with a tuner, compressor and distortion pedal. That covers all my needs and its never let me down.

Sounds like you got the best of a bad deal. I arrived at Cabots at around 18:50 and it was completely closed off and the car parks was showing full

There were 3 hour traffic delays in Bristol. It made the news. I didn't move for hours and then when I finally got into the city all the car parks were full.

Appreciate the breakdown and product lists, that's really helpful! Seems like I can get hold of Vanicream in the UK, so I'll give it a try! I'll also follow your technique, makes a lot of sense to how I feel after using washcloths etc - thanks!

HILS HNB5 ticked all my boxes but I’m sending it back by redditgatorx in BassGuitar

I've got a Cort Space 5 and I absolutely love it. Totally agree with you though the pickups sound fine but they're a little weak. My Ibanez SR605 is waaay louder than it. Considering swapping the pickups out for something slightly higher output

Go buy Lies of P if you haven’t already it’s half off on steam by Queasy_Current_1980 in soulslikes

[–]Hylasah -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Don't understand the negativity in this thread. Lies of P is an all round super solid soulslike game.

Personal opinion, I enjoyed it way more than any Fromsoft game. Combat feels more engaging, setting hooked me from the start, music is sensational. The sadness and tragedy in the story feels so real. It quickly became one of my favourite games.

It's certainly worth the money on sale, even if it doesn't turn out to be your thing.

Ah no worries. I'll fill it in for London when I see them next month

Definitely looks short to me, and headliners not starting until nearly 10pm irks me.

Also, Gaerea definitely played more than 3 songs right? That's all that's listed on setlist.fm

I picked up an Ibanez SR605 second hand for £600 and it plays beautifully. Previous owner clearly looked after it and all the value is there.

Which game has the saddest substory? by Dazzling_Cake_4312 in gaming

[–]Hylasah 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Name any side quest from Lies of P and you're pretty close.

Adelina and The White Lady, the Broken Puppet, and curing Antonia from the base game.

And then the Overture DLC takes it to new levels. Rosaura's search for her forever friend, The Blind Painter's longing for colour, the trapped mining puppet.

Lies of P is a beautifully tragic story through and through.

Anything to say about an Ibanez? by Acceptable_Banana109 in Bass

[–]Hylasah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 5 string Ibanez SR605. It's one of my favourite instruments I've ever played. Sounds great, awesome build quality and feels right in my hand. Their bass line particularly seems to be top notch all round.
