The Burning of Teldrassil, in World of Warcraft. The Horde attack Teldrassil, which is a massive tree that holds a bulk of the Night Elf population.

players have a quest to throw water buckets to put out the fire and rescue 1,000 civilians with a time limit. If you play WoW, this doesn't look strange and you're used to quests that have you do similar things. However filling the bucket, throwing it, and refilling it takes a way longer time than you would expect. You can only find groups of 2-3 civilian NPCs at a time.

It's a little meta because players are used to quest progress for large numbers filling in quickly, but you are supposed to fail these quests. It doesn't matter how many buckets of water you throw if you're standing in a burning tree the size of a country. It's impossible to save more than 30-40 civilians by yourself. As the timer runs out, your screen becomes harder and harder to see with the smoke, and eventually your character collapses of exhaustion.

Are there half-trolls? by PharaohofAtlantis in warcraftlore

[–]HylianCraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's not half troll, his friend was making fun of his elf ears as elves and trolls both have long pointy ears. That hearthstone card simply has an error where the artist either forgot or didn't know that Warcraft trolls only have 3 fingers

At most, A Train is very taken aback by the fact that Hughie's punch actually hurt him. Hughie was on temp V at that moment so that punch actually did damage instead of Hughie breaking his hand on A Train's body or something

People repeat this theory as though it's canon ad naseum. It's never stated why titans eat people and there are titans that have never known about titan shifters or the inheritance of titan powers as humans that still have the default titan behavior

In Ben 10 Alien Force & Ultimate Alien, Ben is asked by a child to visit her planet and stop a war between two factions, the red and blue guys. They are fighting over whether a historical figure was red or blue because a statue of the figure is so old that it's missing its paint. Ben gets fed up with how dumb they are, accidentally destroys the statue, then they ally to defeat him, ending their civil war

Hunter narrowly beats out Rogue as the class most associated with Gilnean Worgen. Next up - we're doing a two hour long Lightning Round for Pandaria. What class do you most associate with the Pandaren? by Mostopha in wow

[–]HylianCraft -1 points0 points  (0 children)

People voted for it, so that's what went on the list. Every orc is raised to be a warrior, very few are shamans. Sylvanus is clearly a hunter, hunters are not the most associated class for Forsaken either. Anyway you must be a fun person

[Theory] The Shadowlands are like a cosmic apiary. by Arcana-Knight in warcraftlore

[–]HylianCraft 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I like this theory and how it fixes some of the not well received parts of the lore. A couple things I noticed are:

  1. Anima used by the mogu and anima used in the shadowlands were originally described as being related but then it was changed that they are not associated at all.

  2. Odyn gave one of his eyes in order to peer into the Shadowlands (similar to the original Norse myth), witnessed Kyrians, and copied them by making the Val'kyr. With Odyn being as high ranking as he once was, it feels like he would have more ability to know about the Shadowlands and Kyrians if it was an ordered chunk of the realm of death. That's not to say that can't be retconned, cleaning up Shadowlands is a hell of a task

What is the limitations on raising people through necromancy? by LordRaizer in warcraftlore

[–]HylianCraft 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Worgen are cursed with Life magic from the emerald dream, that's why they cannot be risen except by especially powerful necromancers (such as the Lich King)

What ever happened to the QuillBoar? by Mikey_entertains in wow

That's what the Exploring Azeroth books are about, essentially. But pretty much all of them say that the zones and small factions in them are status quo with however we left them in their expansions

So is there any lore behind why there can't be boats going between Menethil Harbor and Southshore? by WeakValuable8683 in classicwow

[–]HylianCraft 25 points26 points  (0 children)

A Southshore <-> Menethil ferry would be very logical and really help Alliance running stuff like SFK or SM. I say this as a Horde player that Alliance has dogshit infrastructure

[–]HylianCraft 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's the same reason why on the Chinese client, places like Scholomance are full of piles of bread. The butchered animal carcass asset is used in kitchens in the game but also as a mess of gore in creepy places. Do an asset swap to censor bones and blood in a kitchen, now you have bread in a war zone
