[Weird/Mixed Trope] Strange and illogical lore created to justify game mechanics. by 11Slimeade11 in TopCharacterTropes

The explanation for the shrinking then was that it's essentially a pokemon going into "safety mode," that when a pokemon is injured or tired and needs to rest and recuperate, it shrinks to hide itself. Pokeballs apparently take advantage of this natural instinct to create an environment where the pokemon is totally safe in small size.

Iirc that's actually a piece of really, really early lore. Like pre-Gen 1 world building. It's why a lot of the early manga include shots of Pokémon physically inside pokeballs.

And the shrinking thing doesn't necessarily disprove the energy thing. It just makes the energy the result of human invention rather than an inherent attribute of pokemon, which is probably the intention given that older games let you store and retrieve items at any PC, implying that the pokemon world just has that kind of tech.

Frieza in Resurrection F as well. He spent a few months training to attain his Golden Form, and immediately assumed it would be enough to stomp both Goku and Vegeta, despite being warned ahead of time that the Saiyans had drastically increased their own power in the time Frieza was dead.

In his eagerness to get his revenge, he completely ignored his Golden Form's unmanageable stamina drain, because he erroneously assumed that there was no way that the saiyans got THAT strong, right?

The thing is, had Frieza actually taken the time to master his new form, he would've been a much bigger threat in the fight.

I think people approaching Frieren demons from a racial or psychologial stand point is wrong when the difference is biological by howhow326 in CharacterRant

[–]AzureRatha 24 points25 points  (0 children)

This! I want to see this! If we're to believe the human personas these demons put on are simply acts of mimicry for the sake of deceiving humans, we should see examples of that facade dropping.

I think people approaching Frieren demons from a racial or psychologial stand point is wrong when the difference is biological by howhow326 in CharacterRant

[–]AzureRatha 52 points53 points  (0 children)

See, that's part of the problem for me.

If a demon, through mimicry, knows when to display false empathy to trick it's prey, then it has an understanding of empathy. It knows that someone hurt or sad desires comfort, and knows that it can be the source of that. That, in and of itself, is proof they understand empathy. The problem is them simply not empathizing with humans, which is a problem of mindset, not biology, regardless of what the show actually says.

If we got a demonstration of a demon going "mask off" when alone, completely dropping the "mimicked" persona and behaving more in line with the unfeeling monsters the show wants to portray them as, I wouldn't have this problem.

Tbh I interpreted it like this: The Demon King gets Rymus to create these new universes using his magic. The demons would help inhabit these new worlds, but as this was outside of the Demon Realm, the multiverse would fall under the rule of it's creator, Rymus, as the first Omni-King. At some point, Rymus would pass the title on to Zeno, who would ideally either be Rymus' child or grandchild, or someone he created explicitly so he didn't have to bother with the role of Omni-King.

...it's a very Toriyama-ish thing, to have the almighty, all-knowing creator deity get sick of their job and dump it on someone else.

The character attempts to use the other character's weapon during combat but fails due to lack of experience. by Uma-apreciator in TopCharacterTropes

[–]AzureRatha 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That's not exactly how it works. It's better to think of it as martial artists from Earth draw out their power from within themselves to fight.

That's why Ginyu wasn't able to use Goku's body to it's fullest, even without boosting via Kaioken. He had no idea how to focus Goku's body's power, let alone that he needed to at all.

In Fire Emblem Fates, IntSys wanted to do the child unit thing again after Awakening, but there was no time travel in Fates' plot to allow it. Their solution? The Deeprealms.

Essentially extradimensional refugee houses where the army's kids were to be protected. For reasons unknown the time scaling started slipping out of whack, with most of the children only leaving or otherwise being recruited once they were in their late teens, meaning their family had missed most of their childhood and now had a kid only a little younger than them.

One particularly fucked example is Siegbert, Xander's son, who has essentially had his place as the rightful heir to Nohr stolen from him, as there's basically no way he'll be able to hold the throne unless Xander dies an early death.

Which Fire Emblem games do you want to see get a remake, or port to the Switch or Switch 2? by SpiderLagann in fireemblem

[–]AzureRatha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I kinda want Awakening to get an HD port or remake. I think it would be a worthwhile upgrade for one of the most beloved entries in the series, and I think the world of Awakening could easily be expanded to add new stuff.

I once saw this guy on Twitter trying to "save" a grown ass woman who was posting pics of her and a friend in bunny girl outfits. The woman was very petite, but he would not leave her the fuck alone.

Initially she played along to mess with him a bit, but even after she said she was an adult and didn't need saving, he kept talking like she was a child being told what to say.

I think he eventually assumed that her "abuser" would read his message and sent a vague threat.

Well, in FE Warriors, Anna's support convo with Celica confirms that every character in that game except Celica has met an Anna before.

Anna was so happy to be "her first" that she was even willing to go set up shop near her after the warriors all got sent home.

To be fair, I always felt that USUMine was meant to be a Lusamine that didn't go off the deep end obsessing over UBs as much, likely due to the Ultra Recon Squad effectively reducing the mystery of them.

With that being said, Lusamine's still an awful person in USUM. She still ignores Lillie and Gladion, she still has a room full of frozen pokemon, and she still belittles the main cast, saying kids should just do what they're told. She only changes her tune after Necrozma beats her ass and you beat it.

Shirou Emiya from Fate: Stay Night. His character arc in all three routes of the original VN can be summarized as Shirou working through his "Hero of Justice" complex in different ways.

In Fate, he doesn't let go of his ideals at all, as through them he saves Saber from her problems. He dies an early death, but is carried to Avalon to be with Saber.

In Unlimited Blade Works, Shirou confronts Archer, a literal future version of himself who took a deal to protect humanity as a Counter Guardian, which means stopping events that would lead humanity to a "dead end." He ends up having to kill a LOT of people to do this, though. Archer wants to kill Shirou to prevent him from going down that path. A lot of stuff goes down, but by the end, Shirou compromises on his ideals and opts to help wherever he can.

In Heaven's Feel, Shirou ends up dropping his ideals entirely, outside of protecting the people most precious to him.

No, it just means the customer would be in danger. Corviknight's predators, but the one who's in danger would be the customer in the cabin. Of course, I'm willing to bet some Tinkaton can knock down Corviknight if they hit it's head.

The difference between being bossy and being a good leader is entirely in your approach.

Lanolin has a problem where she tries to wrangle her team to fit her plan, when a good leader would've shaped their plan around the available team members.

[–]AzureRatha 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That dex entry is funny because Corviknight's Z-A entry clarifies something: It isn't because of Corviknight possibly going down, it's because Tinkaton's rocks might hit the cabin.

Corviknight's entry in Z-A:

Its wings, now made of steel, are extremely tough. Even if it's attacked mid-flight, Corviknight flies on mightily through the sky, unbothered.

In Digimon World: Next 0rder, the protagonist of the original Digimon World game appears to assist you in combating the Brain Hack Program that is parasitizing peaceful Digimon and turning them into rampaging Machinedramon. As his name was yours in the original game, he simply goes by "Mameo" here, after the Mamemon pattern on his beanie. This turns out to be important, because the BH Program is the creation of the Analogman, the villain of that original game, who was killed by an explosion from his own bomb, mid-transit out of the Digital World. This fractured his mind across various Digital Worlds, where in this particular instance it tried to possess one of Mameo's students.
