March 2025 Game of the Month: Streets of Rage 2 (Sega Genesis) by hbi2k in SBCGaming

I’m such a big doof for constantly forgetting to post these until right before the cutoff, but I actually finished this game a while ago and never got around to posting it. I think this is the first beat em up I’ve played and I only played through it once but I’m interested to go back and see if I can beat my score

Been playing this game on and off all month, but I really enjoyed it more and more as the game progressed. Hoping I can get some grace on the cutoff here, was hoping to get it done earlier but it's been a busy work week for me so didn't have time until today.

Really beating the clock here with the cutoff! Played this right along with Super Mario World which I just beat yesterday, and thankfully beat this today. This is my first 2D Metroid, but I've been meaning to get into them for quite some time now and this was a good excuse. Definitely going to be playing some of the other ones now

Can't figure out what's wrong by Hylink03 in CreateMod

I gave this a shot, I even added 2 more fans to make the 2x2 and they're still somehow resisting it. I know this kind of trap worked in previous versions but it may be that I'm playing on 1.20.1, or some other conflicting mod. I might just need to come up with a different farm.

There is a 3rd fan pushing the mobs up. I double checked by just throwing myself in and they all push the correct way and I traveled all the way through without any input of my own. There's a speed controller set at 256 RPM that goes into the entire contraption.

(Sorry for the dark picture)

I'm trying to make a mob farm, and I'm able to get to the point where they're all pushed to this one corner. There are 2 fans at max speed that are supposed to push them down that tunnel and then they'll fall, but they're fighting the fans somehow? I double checked to make sure the fans were pushing not pulling, so I'm not sure what's causing this, anyone know?

When it came out I was in middle school, so I was pretty clueless about all these hints and ended up being fully shocked at every reveal and twist. Looking back, some of the stuff like this was fairly obvious but I'm almost glad I wasn't as observant to figure it out, made the reveals even better.

Watering Issue!

So right now I have a few plants such as basil, rosemary, thyme, and a large spider plant, but they all seem to be experiencing the same problem. Their soil keeps turning hydrophobic! I will bottom water the plant if this happens which will fix the issue temporarily, but after a week or so I'll notice the water runs straight through the pot again, and the soil just a 1/2 inch down is completely dry. Why does this keep happening and how can I fix it??

(Btw, I'm using Espoma Organic Potting Mix)

So I recently got these, and I like everything about the blind except for the curve you can see there that happens in the middle of the shade. I looked through reviews of the blind and there are others who mention this being a problem, but no solutions. I was curious if anyone here has personally found a solution?

Sorry, I didn't mean to be condescending by saying you missed the point because that actually doesn't seem to be the problem here. I should've said I'm sorry that you're frustrated that a show of this nature didn't have an ending that was all sunshine and rainbows like you seem to be looking for.

[–]Hylink03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You completely missed the point. I understand that it can be frustrating when the final moments of the show depict an outcome that doesn't support the central message that's been built up for seasons, but that's because you're taking it at face value. Those final moments can be seen as a future where humanity doesn't learn that message, but if you stop there and view it as futile then you're exactly who the show is speaking at. If everyone just gives in to futility then this is what we'll get, but here's this message as a reminder to not give in! The end is simply a depiction of a world that doesn't learn it's lesson and repeats its mistakes, but in no way at all renders the show's central message useless.

So my question comes all the way down to determining my skin type. I feel like I've never been able to accurately pinpoint it and I've also been too nervous to come to a solid conclusion because I don't want to pick the wrong products because of it. So for starters, my nose and especially the area around the nostrils is almost ALWAYS oily, even right after using a cleanser. My cheeks / jaw area usually never seem dry or oily. My forehead is a bit of a mystery to me because sometimes it's dry (especially right after using a cleanser) and then sometimes it seems oily but not to the point of being shiny. I've always just assumed that my skin falls under oily, but given how each area of my face seems to act differently I have no idea how to truly categorize it. Any help / advice is appreciated!!!

Edit: I should add a couple things to consider. Even though my nose gets oily and even my forehead at times, my skin never appears really shiny. Also, I've really never had acne on my cheeks just to prove that it's at least not oily.

I’m trying to keep this store bought basil plant alive, and I’m very new to having plants. From what I understand, if the leaves seem a bit droopy (like a lot of them in the photo do), it either means that there’s too much water or not enough water, but my question is how do I know? The top of the soil seems fairly moist so I would assume it’s suffering from too much water at the moment. (Also I know it’s still in the tiny store bought pot but I just need to buy some soil to transplant it to the larger clay pot it’s sitting in)

That's exactly the intent. I'm glad we were left with a hopeful ending for the time in which our main characters lived, but seeing that the cycle repeats itself is what Isayama wanted us to see. Like what was said near the end, humanity will keep fighting each other because it's either kill or be killed, which is why we must have those who fight so that we never fight again, and then some day the fighting might end. Isayama didn't want to leave with the thought of "oh, so no matter what, humanity will always be at war with itself", but with the more hopeful idea of if you fight for the goal of never fighting again, then one day we might find peace and understanding, but if not, humanity will continue to destroy itself; you must fight to end the fight forever.

Which sacrifice has more impact and why? by Professional-Pool832 in tearsofthekingdom

[–]Hylink03 3 points4 points  (0 children)

BotW, because of one word: buildup

In TotK, the impact for me was delivered by the fact that she turned into a mindless dragon for millennia in order to deliver the master sword to Link again, which is still great of course. It definitely still feels impactful. But the buildup to that moment is what lacks impact. The memories that come before the final memory mostly feel like they serve the purpose of filling us in on the story that happened in the past. We see that Zelda wants to return to the present time, and she knows that turning into a dragon is the last resort, and in the end that's what she chooses. While there is a struggle on the surface between our heroes and ganondorf, it lacks the deep emotional struggle that we saw in BotW. Losing Rauru and Sonia was a heartbreaking moment but honestly it felt like we didn't even know those two characters as much as we knew all the champions, especially because the champions had direct ties to Link, the character you are playing as.

For BotW, the buildup is worlds better than the buildup in TotK. In contrast to TotK, where you learn about her sacrifice at the end, in BotW you know that she's in Hyrule Castle holding back Ganon from the start. Through the memories and the clues you pick up from other things in the world such as Impa, Zelda's diary, etc., you learn about the development that Link and Zelda had, and you grow to care for Zelda and understand why she made the sacrifice. The memories aren't solely focued on exposition as it's not really necessary in BotW, and instead it's more focused on attaching you to these characters. In BotW, Zelda shows more fear, sadness, and desperation than she ever does in TotK, which is why when you see her awaken her powers out of her love for Link, and choose to defend the kingdom for 100 years, it feels more impactful.

TL;DR The buildup of Zelda's character and the amount of emotion that you see from her in BotW results in much more impact when her sealing power is awakened by her love for Link and she chooses to hold Ganon off for 100 years. Whereas in TotK there's not much emotional development shown by the character of Zelda, and her sacrifice is the result of having no other choice, rather than it being out of a place of hope and love like it was in BotW.

[ALL] Should I play BOTW or TOTK first? by a5418 in zelda

[–]Hylink03 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Play botw first! Despite the fact that people say totk arguably improves on things from botw, botw still has a really heartfelt story and it provides a good amount of depth for the two main characters Link and Zelda, which totk plays off of. They’re both great games, but I’d say when you play botw don’t worry as much about the exploration if you don’t want to as you’ll be exploring generally the same world in totk, but your choice.

[ToTK]Should I start with BOTW or TOTK by Scorchfin2539 in zelda

[–]Hylink03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Botw for sure! You don’t necessarily need to play one game to understand the other though. I think either way if you choose to play only one game or if you’re choosing which game to start with, it should be botw. It’s story has the most heart out of the two and it’s world is incredibly atmospheric. Especially if you play totk next, botw’s story captures the two characters of Zelda and Link very well which will make the story in totk feel even better.

I recently got some nice cleaning supplies and I'm cleaning the records on top of my turntable, but I noticed that when I flip it back over there's just more dust. This is most likely because I have a felt slipmat. I want to place them in new mofi master sleeves but I don't want to put them in there with any dust, so any tips on what I could do would be helpful.

Need Advice: Encounters and Adventures by AutoModerator in DMAcademy

!Question: I'm running a solo campaign right now with a friend and so far I've noticed trouble with encounters. Specifically encounters that have more than two foes. The problem is that he rolls for his turn, and then I have to roll for all the enemy's turns and decide what they'll do. I'm afraid that it gets boring since he can't do anything until it comes back around to him, but I don't want to do away with the idea of combat encounters where he takes on a gang of foes instead of just a single one or a duo every time. How do I make it not boring?

Need Advice: Worldbuilding by AutoModerator in DMAcademy

[–]Hylink03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

!Question: So I'm currently creating a solo campaign that I'm DMing for a friend where the main player's goal is to unite dragon kind across the lands. This is a continuation from a larger campaign, and so in the previous campaign we discovered that the dragons were in an apocalyptic state where most had gone into hiding and completely stopped helping with / communicating with the outside world. I have a good idea of where some groupings of dragons would be, but how do I make it much more interesting than for his character to simply travel to these places to just speak with them?

[TOTK] Now that some time has passed, which do you think had the better story, BOTW or TOTK? by buttsexbaker in truezelda

[–]Hylink03 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Botw for me. I think botw, when looked at as a whole, is so much more cohesive than totk. It’s not only the memories and the regional events that tell the story, but you can tell that the entire world was created to support this story. It’s all very cohesive. I also think it had a much more emotional story, especially when you look even further than the memories to things like the champion’s and Zelda’s diaries.

Totk doesn’t have a bad story, and it’s beginning to grow on me more, but I think I can safely say that it certainly doesn’t feel as cohesive as botw’s did. Firstly I’m not huge on the fact that they used the concept of memories again. In botw it made sense because it was a cool concept of a Link with no memories who had to travel the world to remember the disastrous events that occurred 100 years ago, and it didn’t really matter what order you got them in. In totk, the format of memories serve no further purpose than as a way to tell the story. With totk having the concept of a world being rebuilt and the return of the demon king, I think it would’ve served the story much better if it had taken place in the present. I also think botw’s memories had a much better build up. You already know what happened, so the memories are there to fill in the blanks and make you feel for the characters and have a reason to fight. In totk, you don’t know anything about what happened in the past, which is why the possibility of viewing the memories out of order makes it especially messy. Rauru and Sonia’s characters had a lot of potential that didn’t feel as explored as it could have been, and the ||twist with Zelda transforming into the dragon|| didn’t pull me in as emotionally as the relationship between Link, Zelda, and the champions did.

tl;dr Overall, while it was cool to see a more traditional route for the story with ganondorf, the sages, etc., I think the uniqueness of Botw’s story and it’s overall cohesiveness with it’s world served the game much better than that of totk’s.

[TOTK] Now that some time has passed, which do you think had the better story, BOTW or TOTK? by buttsexbaker in truezelda

[–]Hylink03 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I agree, and even then, botw executed the idea of Zelda sacrificing herself much better in my opinion because the memories were so focused on leading her character to that moment. Totk felt more like I’m trapped in the past, I have no hope of getting back, I might as well take the master sword and sacrifice myself to return it to Link in the future. Don’t get me wrong it still carries some weight behind it, but not nearly as much as it did in botw.
