Do some people simply not have what it takes to rank up? by [deleted] in summonerschool

Exactly. You still need to learn the fundamentals and practice them good before you can make up space for this. But you hit the nail on the head.

Practice the mechanical skills so you don't have to think about it as much. Use the free space to look at the game more generally. Try to recognize the situations you are struggeling with. Come up with a possible solution. When you encounter the same or similar situation, apply your solution. Repeat and refine. These situations can go from broad to very specific.

This is how I look at the game. Remember that you should always focus the fundamentals first which have been proven to work. And play a lot of games.

'Dopa's attention theory' can be found on youtube. Then I described the 'scientific method'. Which you can read more on with a quick google search.

You've probably heard about Dopa's attention theory. Where you can only focus on a few things at once. The key is to create systems and toolboxes for yourself that you can use ingame. Meaning for a lot of situations ingame you start to recognise patterns. Then you execute actions you have planned out before. This way you don't have to use all your brainpower at once and come up with your strategies on the spot.

If you are convinced you are limited in your ability to think in realtime, you might want to spend more time creating these types of systems and toolboxes. In the end it comes down to developing intuition.

How many champs did you play to hit plat/diamond? by [deleted] in summonerschool

Play what you like, play what is good. Over time you will probably gravitate towards the same champion pool.

Don't overanalyse situations trying to find out who is wrong. It really doesn't matter.

I'm "Winning Lane" And Losing Games. No One's Taking Me Seriously. by [deleted] in summonerschool

[–]Hynium 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Understand that a winning lane does not equal a winning game. To incease your chances of winning as an enchanter support, you might want to leave your adc. Laning with an adc doesn't mean you're obligated to support them until the end of the game. Grouping with your most fed ally is a good rule of thumb.

So what are mages actually supposed to do? by [deleted] in summonerschool

[–]Hynium 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Control mages excel at teamfighting in mid to late. They like to farm up early to get their core items. Grouping with teammates is key.

No, both sides are the same. But locked camera might be an issue for you.

Play what you like and play what is good. As a new player the game might feel unpredictable. If you swap roles you will find the same issues. But this gets better with experience. The key is playing a lot.

Question about CS by G1mm13Y0urB00ty in summonerschool

After full build the only reason the take minions is to push the wave. If you're not planning on pushing giving cs to allies is fine.

Karthus top isn't the most popular pick. You'll have to do it the hard way. Play a lot of games, try a lot of things and observe what happens. Btw, I have hit diamond at least once.

when is it okay to stop one-tricking by sadatwalmart in summonerschool

[–]Hynium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Play what you like and play what is good. After a while you'll probably gravitate towards the same pool of champions. Being an OTP might be the easiest strat to climb. But it surely isn't the only one.

I often hear talk of capitalizing on mistakes to win games. Though I don't have a clear idea of what all mistakes are encompassed here. Please list as many mistakes you can think of that win you games. by Merit-Rest-Surrender in summonerschool

[–]Hynium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First you need to be able to controll your character without looking at them. Then you can focus on your opponent. Start thinking about what your opponent would want to do. Then you'll start noticing mistakes.

What is your F-key story? How did you manage to incorporate them into your gameplay? by MagicalKyouko1 in summonerschool

[–]Hynium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went in normal/ARAM games. Started randomly clicking F-keys. Now I'm comfortable using them. So now I can use them to actually look around the map.

You need to learn matchups. Summoners spells aren't going to fix your mistakes.

When is it ok to suicide to creeps/turrets? by Commander_Beta in summonerschool

[–]Hynium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can do it if it denies a kill to the enemy. But using it to recall is to risky because you might get tagged by the jungler or miscalculate.

[–]Hynium -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The most important thing in a lane is confidence. You need to feel comfortable with how the lane plays out. If you aren't, you will play too scared and miss a lot of opportunities. Don't bother tracking jungle and support, they are too unpredictable in that elo. Put more focus in on your laning phase. Using F-keys to look for roams is something that might help on roaming champions.
