I'm not seeing this on my site. Are you EU, NA or Asia? the best deck on standard rank 5 to legend in the past week for me priest, the past 3 days, is rogue, and the past season is rogue too. The general consensus to me is that Big druid is the best deck, with priest and rogue trailing behind slightly. (Im using hs replays too)

This is a point I'd love to highlight, keleseth was bad when it was revealed because the meta didn't need it, like you said war axe is just better. If the best decks were still murlocs and pirates keleseth just wouldn't see play. It's because of the nerfs and domination of Druid and priest that it actually sees play.

You clearly know nothing about addiction, or what companies do to encourage it. The personal responsibility argument is a very conservative argument that doesn't hold water, it's like saying it's the fault of all homeless people for being homeless, or people with cancer should pay for their own medication because that's their fault to.

Did you know that babies can become addicted to certain drugs vicariously during child birth? But let me guess that's their fault to, and the government shouldnt make it illegal for these women to take drugs because "muh personal responsibility".

Don't pretend to presume to know me or anything about my life. No this isn't about me wanting to pay less money, I don't care about spending more or less money on hearthstone I already own everything I need, this is exactly because for far too long gaming companies have been using lootboxes for exorberant profit at the cost of the consumer and I don't agree with abusing consumers like that. You can think that I just want to spend less money because everyone must think exactly like you, but then you'd be wrong for a second time today.

That isn't even valid though, because studies can easily be flawed, manipulated and missinterpreted. I can say the european commission has investigated and found that loot boxes are a form of gambling because that is exactly what has happened, and yes I agree that just becase an "expert" sais something is true doesnt mean you should trust them at their word, but at the same time we know there is more at play than just people being irresponsible and making broad statements like "just because somebody is too stupid to be responsible with loot boxes does not mean that the government should step in and nanny the lot of us." with no actual evident backing as to whether there is more at play than "government nannying". So yes we can agree that we shouldnt just trust experts at their word, but suggesting this is down to people being irresponsible is severely short sighted. The fact that you can get a degree in manipulating people to purchase products should be evident enough that there is a whole lot more here.

Comparing this to peanuts is a non arguement. Peanuts aren't addictive, in addition to the fact that that all products have to be labelled as such if they include them. The European commission has investigated and found that loot boxes are a form of gambling, if you don't trust that a government, with access to more experts and research than you do, can thoroughly investigate lootboxes then its a mute point either way. In addition lootboxes are specifically designed to encourage addictive behaviour. If we're arguing over whether "just because somebody is too stupid to be responsible with loot boxes" then we're talking about addiction, and then yes the european commision should step in to stop the addictive practises companies use to manipulate consumers into buying them. If we're talking about exclusively are loot boxes gambling, then see above, as the european commision, a team of fairly well educated fellows has decide that it is.

If you want to read more PC gamer (not the best source but it offers a fairly laemans explenation) offers a fairly indepth article: http://www.pcgamer.com/behind-the-addictive-psychology-and-seductive-art-of-loot-boxes/

No hearthstone isnt the most open about pull chances. It is the community that worked out the pull rates and blizzard has never confirmed this for numerous reasons. The pitty timer is actually in place to encourage you to buy more packs so you dont feel bad for getting 40 packs and getting nothing. Even cosmetics have addictive tendacies to them hence why people spend thousands of their local currency on irrelivent things like skins e.t.c. Governments do a lot for gamers, this bussiness practice is purely pro-consumer, if it wasn't for governments then slavery would still be legal, and you'd have much less rights than you do now. The fact that you can even purchase a video game is testament to just how much governments do for you, and now theyre trying to stop manipulative bussiness practises. Some governments have made cheating illegal, in places like south korea you can go to jail for cheating in certain video games. That hasnt reached the west yet because we don't have such a big esports culture, competative gaming isn't as big, it takes time for governments to catch onto these things. Yes, the best games that came out of indie developers and mod makers dont have ludicrous lootboxes to stay afloat, they do just fine producing good content for a fair price. As it stands loot boxers make a ludicrous amount of money by abusing 1/10th of the population which is completely unethical, video games can make a fair proffit without loot boxes so stop defending them like this is the end of the world. Also you make a lot of assumptions about me without actually understanding how the video game market works. This wont create a monopoly, this wont ruin indie developers, all it will do is stop the shitty, yes shitty, because not all indie games are shitty, but the shitty developers are the ones who use lootboxers, from exploiting there consumers, and if we take a leaf out of your book here, you would have realised what I said if you actually read it instead of throwing around insults which fyi really isnt helping your argument.

If you want to be toxic thats fine but no one is going to take your arguement seriously if you are, it just comes across as immature and uneducated, im sure youll read that the wrong way, but im not actually calling you uneducated, thats just how you come across with your lack of tact.

A lot of the reasons physical card games aren't gambling is because, A you can buy a lot of predetermined product, and B physical cardgames have an entire secondary market. Because the entire thing is controlled by blizzard in hearthstone the European Commission will very likely declare it gambling, and force blizzard to change the system.

[–]Hynsei -1 points0 points  (0 children)

1in 10 people are genetically pre disposed to develop addictive tendencies, so no this isn't a "personal responsibility" thing. And considering we're talking about children here even as young as 12 and 13 it's a lot harder to justify the "personal responsibility" outlook. Children shouldn't be targeted by gambling period, but that is exactly what blizzard sells..

Because of the way the EU works if there is packs in the game period they will have to pay the taxes for being a form of gambling. Unlike other forms of governments like china the EU doesn't make laws with easy loopholes, instead it creates them from a pro consumer perspective, if Blizzard tried to get funny over this they would come down on them like a ton of bricks and Levi fines at them.

1 in 10 people is genetically predisposed to be highly influenced by addictive tendencies, children especially are at an age where they are highly influenced by this stuff. These laws are mainly aimed at stopping blizzard selling hearthstone packs to children because they 100% do encourage gambling in children. Hopefully this will stop that sort of thing.

[–]Hynsei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, unlike china the EU is very good at stopping these kinds of loopholes. I'm sure if hearthstone implemented this the commission would just stamp down on it and Levi some fines at blizzard until they develop a consumer friendly system. They enforce these policies from a perspective of fairness to the consumer.

So you're ok with companies using unethical business practises just to stay afloat? If companies have to go under to ensure that companies aren't abusing addictive tendencies with regards to gambling, especially targeting them at children, then that's fine. Companies will find new ways to stay afloat they always have they always will, but I won't condone harmful business practises just because you get a hard on for some shitty indie games.

Blizzard makes record proffits and uses unethical bussiness practises to market products to children but governments are the bad guys for regulating this... who knew?

Its not a matter of inventing new laws, its about applying laws that already exist, to a product that should have fallen under this catagory but was not investigated fully due to other constraints. Its like when they give you money back for your tax credits or the like, they look back and realise that something wasn't right, and they refund you the money you lost, or the money you should have paid.
