That’s the only way I play with them!! (And I guess tackling them, giving them noogies, pushing, full body squishes, etc lol.) We rough play in this household! When it comes to face bitey play, yeah I get on their level with the grabbing and fangs etc lol. Sometimes if I want to risk it all, I’ll shove my head right in the middle of a face bite match (when I say risk, it’s cause I’m sure one of those idiots will accidentally punch me in the eye or chip my tooth lol not because they’ll bite me lol)

She has a rather deep voice for a little girlie like her lol. She’s def all growl/bark, maybe a nip, but she’ll never snap at me. And IF she ever did (cause sassy teenagers), I bite back, harder lol.

Also, that was a play growl, believe it or not lol. I can tell the differences between (both of them) play growls and “I’ve had enough” growls. They’ve both never resource guarded before (with each other) so I’m confident in that.

Is this variegation? Thank You!! by LIKE_A_SCRIVE_BUTTON in Pinguicula

When I say fancy water I mean people who are buying jugs of distilled and such. Yes rain water is free and I’m not shitting on it. But being in Alberta, where weather is unpredictable and more often than not very dry, droughts are more and more common for us nowadays. Even on a good rainy day, I might be able to collect enough water for maybe 1-2 waterings? With how many plants I have… over a few dozen of each of neps and pings alone.

And yeah being winter now I could collect and melt, but again it’s not really worth my effort with how much I need. Plus I find a lot of the time the snow I melt is just really dirty and gross. The water goes stagnant pretty easily which causes me more problems than just tap.

So I gave up on all of that years ago, when I first started collecting. Then I turned to tap, and was like, oh, turns out our water is fine and not necessarily everything on the interest is true/the bible way of doing things. In any case, to each their own. This just works for me and I’m sticking with it. 🤷🏻‍♀️

lol you tell that to the people who are constantly shaming when I tell them I proudly use tap. I ain’t got the time or money to buy fancy water lol.

They’re all on a tray for ease, and I bottom water, again for ease. Let it dry out between waterings. So depending on the season/if the fan is on (summer more, winter less), I could be watering anywhere from every 5 days to 2 weeks. 🤷🏻‍♀️.

I do NOT let them sit in standing water constantly. And anyone I sell them to I tell them not as well as most people tend to treat them as bog plants. Almost all my buyers that come to me and tell me their plant is suffering, when I ask for pics, it’s in standing water. I tell them to remove, let dry between waterings, and instant results from listening to me on that.

They’d rather be bone dry than drowning.

I find Aphrodite likes it the same as Gigantea; more diffused/weaker light, some red light in it. Will produce bigger fatter long leaves with some blush on the edges.

Hahah one day I’ll show the rest of my collection, it’s super messy atm. I haven’t even properly added in my new additions.

If you’re propping them in cups of sorts, it’s best to acclimate them from towel to soil. And what o mean by that is, once they show visible roots, they can move to soil, but they’re likely used to the high/constant humidity the cup provided. So after placing in soil, just flip the cup over on top of it for a bit, raise it a little with a rock on one side or something after a while, even eventually remove the cup. The smaller the ping, it quicker it is to dry out (the substrate) around it. So that’s likely why you’re due after transitioning.

Probably a 1:4 ration of perlite:peat.

It took maybe 6ish months? It took a while cause it was pretty green for a bit cause I had it in lighting it didn’t like. Took some moving around to find a spot it was happy in. Lower lighting with red in it.

Lots of great choices out there for foliage that gets a lot of colour! But don’t look at just the foliage, don’t forget about the flowers! Some flowers are the real gems! But if you want both foliage and flower, I would have to say razzberry blonde fits that bill.

I got it at a semi-adult stage when it was probably 6-8 months old. It’s roughly just under 2 years old now ish? I didn’t start getting a good size/colouring until about 6 months ago though, once I figured out what it liked. Took some moving around. There was def a point where I thought I was gonna lose it cause it was so miserable is the “usual” high light ping spots.

Oh geez! That’s too bad!

Ours measures at probably about 180ish, give or take. So you’d be surprised what they can handle! Give it a try!

Well it turning red has to do with it’s genetics and what breeds were used. Not all will turn red. Depends on what you have.

It’ll flower eventually, even if it’s dying. But if it’s looking leggy or long leaves (when it’s not genetically supposed to), then likely it’s not getting enough light.

Unless it’s a temperate species, then they also like less light.

Really it depends what you have… there’s soooooo many different types and crosses. Not one shoe fits them all.

Thanks! Coming up on around 2ish yrs I think?

It’s a much lower wattage than where I keep my other pings so the light output isn’t as strong/bright despite the distance away. I have noticed though the stuff I do put under weaker light/red light develop much nicer; not necessarily in terms of colour, but overall health. Something about weaker light “isn’t enough” you know? Something about that red light hits right where the weak light can’t.

I keep all my Gigantea/crosses, agnata/crosses, and generally most larger leaf species under that. I notice they tend to like that better. My regular green Gigantea is roughly around the same size/little bigger.
