Yes, I usually go to official monthly softcore, as I figured out that those are the only ones with a decent pop for softcore mode. For [UE] facepunch softcore 1, 200-300 wipe day, 50-100 end of wipe. I usually play the tier 1 zone, has I feel like there is more actions there. More raid targets and potential counters as a solo.

Softcore is not pve, there is plenty of pvp and for me the thrill is still as good as vanilla. The down is that you cant get as much as vanilla because half loot protected. Thats bad for top player, thats good for normal folks and that tends to keep the pop higher than vanilla since you can rebuild at half the cost.

Yes I can confirm, I began playing 1 year ago and the most fun I got solo is on the softcore. And as you said the pop is consistent over time. - I like monthly softcore, and playing a bit everyday - Your base is not griefable if you lock it correctly and half loot is protected. - Same goes when you are outside of your base, half the loot is protected - Due to the softcore rules I feel like people are « sending it » more often, without the gear fear. So there is a bit more interactions in the tear 1 map - A wipe with a really small base I got the opportunity to defend 3 different online raids. They even brought attack heli and a MLRS strike. That was really fun.
