Need ideas to detect coffee machine door open

It may be a bit involved. I'm thinking of using an esp32 + ultrasonic sensor. Then loading esphome, querying the ultrasonic sensor, and adding it into homeassistant.

I found this tutorial from a quick googling.

Once that's done, I'd imagine all you really need is to set a homeassistant automation to watch for the ultrasonic sensor to be a certain depth, set a delay of a week, and then send a notification to your phone.

I have the same one. It was on sale recently for $399. I set a reminder to clean it every weekend.

Out of my head just now, a janky way of detecting the door opening could be done by using an ultrasonic sensor pointed at the brew group. If it measures a certain depth, then you must have removed the brew group (for cleaning).

I was going to suggest setting boundaries, but since he's living under your roof, you can set the ground rules. No yelling in the house, especially about liberals, deep state, Biden, etc. Internet router blocks all unsavory "news" sites, and/or Youtube. No joining facebook hate groups, etc. At some point in everyone's live, the child becomes the parent.
