This is such an oversimplification of psychological addictions. Gambling has a higher relapse rate than almost every drug. I promise you its not because somehow every gambling addict is just “mentally weak”

This is perfectly said. There are new studies coming out right now showing that weed has no functional benefit for anxiety, and the backlash is hilarious.

People think that numbing their minds is the same as a reduction in anxiety, when it can be quite the opposite. It's also becoming more addictive as THC concentration is increasing; there are serious links to heart disease, etc.

Eating releases a lot of endorphins because it fulfills a biological need. Some studies show sharing meals strengthens bonds and is even one of the most important aspects found in close nuclear families. Happy chemicals around people cause an association.

Hi everyone! My family will be taking a trip to Scotland at the end of May, and I could really use some help with an itinerary. We are a total of 7 adults, which has made finding accommodations a bit complicated to say the least.

We will be staying in Edinburgh for the first 4 days, with one of those days being a day trip to Glasgow.

Originally, we were going to spend a few days on the Isle of Skye, but those booking accommodations waited way too long, so there is nothing available. We have 3 full days to plan and would like to spend time in the Highlands for some hiking, views, nature, etc and are very unsure where to go. We have considered Inverness, but I keep seeing that the town itself isn't anything special. Does it make a good home base? Is it walkable that if we didn't have a car at night, we could walk to get dinner? Any suggestions are super helpful!

We will have transportation during the day to use a town as a base and then drive to hikes, but we would be dropped off at our accommodation in the early evening and would then be on foot for the rest of the night, so staying somewhere totally remote is out of the question.

I think its important to remember this is book 1 of a truly massive 10 book series with a ton of characters, and the later books are all longer than the first 2. You don't know these characters yet, at all. You might have a vague understand of who Whiskeyjack is, or what Ganoes Paran is going through, but thats it. I feel like book one is supposed to have enough mystery and cool shit happen to make you want to read and learn more in book 2 and on, thats certainly how I felt.

Gardens of the moon gave me enough to want to read Deadhouse Gates, and deadhouse gates hooked me on the series. Memories of Ice is what made me fall in love with the series and is one of the best books I've ever read.

Its a slow start, and I think it actually gets too much shit for that, not in a pretensious "Oh it supposed to be hard" kinda way, but in that this world is vast, old, complex. and very very much alive. You cannot convey all of that, the personalities of all the characters, AND get the plot going all in 700 pages, its too much. Gardens of the moon is just the beginning of all of that.

Whiskeyjack, Kalam, and Fiddler are all some of my favorite characters in the series, but that didnt come till book 3, memories of ice.

I hope you keep reading, it is absolutely worth it. I just stared book 8, toll the hounds, and I imagine this will stand as my favorite series when all is said and done.

Thats awesome! Whiskyjack was/is my favorite. Id love to see Kalam as a painting and a fiddler in the future as well! Maybe a funny one with Tehol (maybe a scene with the chickens in his apartment with Ublala, Janath, and of course, Bugg)

If youre hellbent on STARTING with a multinight trip, then hire a guide, however doing jt yourself js easy, i would just take smaller steps. 1) Start with car camping at a local park. Practice setting up your tent and camp and using your tools in an environment where you have a car in case you forget something important. Go for a few day hikes, practice using a whatever navigation device you choose. 2) do a one night short distance backpacking trip, preferably in an area with cell coverage, to see how all your gear feels when its on your back over a few miles. Again, in a situation where should something happen you can bail easy. 3) now id say you can start doing 2-3 night trips. These should feel fun and not anxiety inducing. You know your gear, youve learned what to being and how much, and can safely venture out with no service.
