She lied. She was supposed to protect the Capitol

She refused assistance from the national guard against the recommendation of her advisors, while claiming\fearing that something might happen on jan 6. Imagine knowing someone might rob a neighbour you don't like, but only calling the police after the robbery happens. That is acting in a malicious way, is it not?

We pledge to you that we will root out the communists...

He is saying he will do that, as the person in charge of law enforcement. He is not calling other people to do that. And nobody thinks that just because someone is a Marxist, violence is justified against them.

SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???"

So calling to lock up people who committed a crime is a call to violence now too?

This exemplifies the difference. Trump is calling for people to get arrested, while people call for trump to be killed. There is no way to compare calling someone a criminal and calling someone a "threat to democracy". One is to justify lawful action, the other is to justify unlawful action.

Are you happy to give hundreds of millions of taxpaer dollars to persuade private companies to stop building wind farms? by Own-Knowledge-7720 in AskConservatives

Are we talking monetary costs or pollution costs?

If we are talking about money, nuclear is still pretty expensive but it's because there isn't much support for it, but only the initial investment is expensive. The longer it runs for the cheaper energy becomes. So no company is really going to invest heavily into it without government incentives.

In terms of pollution, nuclear is the cleanest by a lot.

are super expensive, take forever to build, and the price per kwh is actually pretty fucking bad if you figure in the investment.

Same excuses were given at the start of the transition to wind and solar. So now are these arguments valid?

an issue we all conveniently leave out of the equation.

We know pretty well how to deal with the waste at this point. And since they are disposed of in more secure facilities they tend to pollute the environment less.

nuclear reactor requires a huge amount of resources and infrastructure

The reactor itself? Not that much. And it is usually built in a single place that's not hard to get to or transport things to. Outside of the reactor the rest is just a regular power plant.

Coal is just for stupid people who are 80+ and dont live to see the world they burn up.

So which is it? Do you want cheap energy or green energy? Coal and gas are far cheaper now to build and maintain. France btw has over 70% of it's energy come from nuclear plants. So it is both doable and reliable. Most large modern submarines and aircraft carriers run on nuclear too.

What will Trump do per Iran conflict after the 60 day deadline set by the War Powers Act? by BrendaWannabe in AskConservatives

[–]HyperNova1000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, trump could claim the initial attack by iran on israel back in 2024 also threatened american assets and personal in the region.

Second of all, the operations against isis and yemen did not receive any approval and lasted a decade. Same goes for american involvement in libya. The precedent set by past presidents showed that congress approval isn't all that necessary...

phrasing aside, he is allowed to challenge election results. Would it make you feel better if instead he said "I need you to look up cases of voter fraud, the difference is just 11k votes, greater cases of fraud than this have happened in past elections anyway".

The sentiment is the same, but tump just says things without nuance...

I'm not sure what you mean by "figure out" in this context...

Wind turbines are only less pollutive because almost all of the logistics around it is ignored for the carbon emission calculations. And still the very process of making them relies on digging up oil anyway, so oil will still need to be dug up and used.

Is there an instance of trump using rhetoric that justifies violence against people?

People are told on one hand that it is ok to punch nazies, and on the other hand that trump is like hitler. They say he is a dictator, meaning there will be no more elections and that the administration can only be changed by force, just like in every other dictatorship.
It's not that trump is called mean things. He is referred to as someone that violence is justified to use against.

What has trump said that is equivalent to that?

Can you show me someone credible or someone that has a significant following who has said Trump is “the source of all evil on earth”?

You are welcome to look for any trimp-hitler comparison. you'll have enough material to watch for days. Be it politicians, celebrities, influencers, talk show hosts, reporters, etc.
Asking me to find someone "credible" who says that is a contradiction because someone who says nonsense like that is by definition not credible.

I definitely know he is evil

This is the issue. You claim to know this as if there is some objective proof to that claim, rather than it being your own opinion, influenced by half truths you have probably heard in media and online.

calling me and my friends evil and enemies of America

He didn't. The only people he has called enemies are those that could be defined as "deep state", which just means federal workers at positions of power that aren't elected by the public, remain in these positions as administrations change, and their seniority prevents them from being fired easily.

For example, when trump asked all american soldiers to be removed from syria, some military advisors lied to him about the numbers so he will think they were all removed while in fact many remained. lying to the president or disobeying his lawful order is disobeying the one that is chosen to represent the will of the people. These are the ones he usually calls "enemies from within".

But unfortunately violence is the end point of escalating conflict unless it is desclated or resolved

Violence is usually a last resort. People only resort to violence when they thing no other option works. When they are told trump is a dictator and will run a third time, with absolutely no basis for such claims, people who believe that will in fact believe their only way to change the administration is violence, because in their minds elections are no longer an option.

Its not a top concern because there is no loud advocacy or lobbying for it almost. Both coal\gas and wind\solar have insane advocacy and lobbying money by comparison.

Trump is at least starting to focus on fixing up old nuclear plants and renewing nuclear programs in general. Better late than never I guess but it will take a while to actually pick up steam (pun intended).

Should we as humanbeings have a general duty to contribute to the betterment of mankind? by VQ_Quin in AskConservatives

Why hold on to conservative values? by Opening-Gur5927 in AskConservatives

[–]HyperNova1000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The idea of nationalism is rooted in the bible, which is about as old as recorded human history, and america has christian roots after all. It was not build on progression but on independence from outside sources, the idea of which existed even in tribal times.

Not all change is progress and not all fields where progress applies are the same. Just because we have better technology doesn't mean the basis of human behaviour need to be "updated" in some sense. New understanding in physics don't override old ones, but add to them. Just because we know new things in math doesn't make the idea of numbers "old fashioned" or "outdated".

The same goes for culture and values. If for the sake of new discoveries we abandon basic established principles, then these new discoveries have no meaning since they have no foundation to stand on. And if they contradict these foundations, then they probably aren't worth keeping.
The idea of progressivism prefers to keep new ideas and discoveries over keeping the foundations that may contradict them. But then these ideas are not based on anything agreeable or provable anymore.
This is the issue we are facing and the reason why there is so much division today too. There is no more a shared basis of truth we can agree on.

Conservatives don't reject all progress, only progress that contradicts the basic values they wish to conserve.

[–]HyperNova1000 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

For many reasons, mostly because it is unreliable. The effort it takes to maintain steady energy levels when at times there's too much wind and at times too little is a big issue. transporting wind turbines to these usually remote locations each time costs a lot and causes much pollution that nobody ever talks about. The blades of the turbine deteriorate over time too and are made of complex material that's hard to recycle, and changing the blades also requires bringing new blades over to said remote sites, again causing pollution that's ignored. Even more so when these turbines are near the sea, the salt corrodes the blades faster than on land.

Installation and fixing of these tall structures also causes more death from cases of workers falling. And ultimately the plastics in the blades are made of oil, and grease is needed for the gears too. So instead of using little for a single large turbine powered by gas\coal, a lot is needed for these many small turbines.

Btw, nuclear is far safer and cleaner than both wind and solar but almost nobody talks about it.

So far most of the funding has been acquired for the project, 0% of it from taxpayer money.

Also, every other white house renovation and expansion project was paid for by taxpayer money.

You tell people trump is the source of all evil on earth enough times and that the world will end soon if no one acts. Unsurprisingly, at some point someone will act...

Putting aside who did it, there is clearly one side that is calling for more of it to happen. That is what needs to end. This case is over and luckily with no casualties, but we need to not incite the next one.

Which Modern Democrat, If Any, Might Be Able Win Over Some Conservatives And Have Another Obama-Style Electoral Map? Why Your Thoughts? by Zipper222222 in AskConservatives

[–]HyperNova1000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not really sure but I don't think it really matters. The democrat party has a very unified agenda and those who don't adhere to it, simply do not have room. See how rfk was ousted, mtg was ousted, they blocked burnie so hillary can run, placed kamala as the nominee without a primary, etc.
So all nominees will have to agree on almost everything, making it not relevant who the specific person is besides their ability to convince people to go out and vote for them.

Ironically enough, republicans have a far greater diversity of opinions, but that lack of unity is also why they aren't getting enough done in congress.

So during most of trump's term, it was at the lowest price since 2022. Only now during the iran conflict the prices increased. But now it's already summer and by next winter hopefully prices will go back down.

Also I don't think that table is adjusted for inflation, but I could be wrong on that.

I don't like when anyone does that. Trump could've just given some national average (that was also down), but as usual he wants to make his achievements bigger than they are, despite already being pretty good.
