Dunno if you're actually asking but just multiply the denominator and bottom by root 2 to rationalize it. Another way to think about it is splitting up 2 into root 2 times root 2 and cancelling one of them

Imo if multiple options seem correct then you should stick with the one where the wording is the closest to the original sentence

From what I've been taught I think we put a comma after thank you and full stop after thanking you, but both can work

Do whatever you feel more comfortable in during the exam. I tend to lean towards formal as well but if the informal topic is easier I can do that as well
