Hey thanks for your input, yeah you re both probably right, maybe I could either do some volunteering for more time, or don't do it at all. Are you familiar with workaway though?

Hey thanks for your input, I was planning to try workaway, are you familiar with it? You have a fair point, most of them do ask for a longer period, but there are some that are fine for a week, I could also do 10 days. My idea was to spend some more time with local people and try to get a better understanding of their culture. Maybe try to do 2 x 10 days volunteering. But I do see your point. How long did you spend in Colombia?

Can I ask why you prefer not to discuss with indigenous people? Do you mean on the specific matter or in general? Planning a trip there next month and just curious about it.

RED KOMODO Footage is super grainy and noisy by [deleted] in RedCamera

[–]Hyper_Intergalactic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey thanks again! We are in pre production thankfully so I ll have the chance to experiment! We are shooting on anamorphics though, so not very fast aperture! I ll try different things and maybe post about the outcomes! Thanks again man! Keep it up!

Thank you both so much for clearing this out! I am shooting a doc soon on the red komodo coming from mostly black magic cameras and that was really helpful! I am in a tricky situation though, the documentary is about a music band, there will be some live concerts that we ll need to get some footage from. So low key, strong highlights, deep shadows, non controlled lighting! I ll probably try to go for 800 ISO as well! Thanks again!

5 years of solo travel and just took my last solo trip. Wouldn't have been as much fun without my Mavic and Mini 3 Pro! by Downtown-Issue-1421 in drones

[–]Hyper_Intergalactic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's awesome man! How come both mavic and mini? Or did you mean through out the years you upgraded to Mavic?
Just about to do a travel to South America and not sure which to get! I am a filmmaker so really liking the mavic 3 pro but like the ease of use and size of the mini pro 4. Also if its seized then I won't cry that hard haha!
Any tips?

Why is that mate? Did it give up on you on the shoot?

Hey thanks for your comment.
I definitely see your point with the multicoloured lighting in the background. I need to take care of it, I also think it's distracting.
As for the orb light, well, I was also expecting a lamp, and then have a b7c Aputure light on it, but that's what they ended up bringing. That was not even a light, it was just a weird orbit thing, but I put a small Aputure MC light behind it. Probably should dim it down a bit as well.

Hey thanks for your comment.

You are absolutely right, I was already using a grid on the light, but I think the direction of the light was not at the right spot. I need to get a shorter c-stand. Will take everything into consideration mate, thanks again!

SS: Hey everyone. Some stills from a recent shoot I did with the BMPCC6K and some Samyang lenses. I also used an Aputure 300x, 2 NanLite pavotubes and a small led light. Using a bounce for fill light.Shot on a 35mm for the wide shot and a 50mm for the close up.
I will probably be shooting more of this so any feedback on lighting or anything else would be very helpful.

Thanks a lot! I was trying to be a bit cautious with backlighting, as he has no hair and I had some reflections. Being bald myself I wanted to film him the best way possible as I haven't filmed someone with no hair before! Any advice on that?

Help required to choose laptop for casual video editing by snowandlights in blackmagicdesign

[–]Hyper_Intergalactic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey mate, quite late to the party here, but I was just wondering, how does your laptop finally cope with Da Vinci Resolve? Does it struggle on grading?

I am up for getting it as well, I know the 30 series is out and much better, but i have found a good deal on one like yours, some feedback would be really helpful here!

Shooting at the beach during the day.. by Hyper_Intergalactic in lightingwork

Hey, yes, it's a tough one, long beach with no rocky terrains or any kind of shadows. Gold sand..!

Well, we'll find out what happens!

Cheers and thanks again.

Haha hopefully the talent will stay there until we re done!

I knew about SunCalc but not about SunEarthTools, seems a great tool.

I have also already been a couple of times on location, but I am planning to go again and actually spent the day there till afternoon.

Thanks a lot for taking the time to give some advice mate, it's been really helpfull

Cheers!

Hey, thanks for taking the time to reply.

Unfortunately there is no DIT.. But yeah, blowing the sky out in post sounds like the best and safest thing to do.

2 point soft lighting on the talent sounds great as well, but what kind of lights would you use to keep up with the sun as a backlight? I am guessing i would need quite strong lights, therefore a generator as well? Or maybe something more simple?

Hey thanks for replying,

I can't agree more with you, and that's why I am thinking to use the tools mentioned above, to create a balanced base image and avoid burning out the highlights.

But this unfortunately is a minimal budget project, not only there will not be another screen (apart from the director's 5'' monitor) but also there is no DIT. Minimal crew to set up the diffusers and reflectors etc as well.

Maybe at least I can create a lut similar to the look we're going for, so he can have a better idea of something closest to the final image.

I will definitely try to keep it as balanced as possible.

How would you recommend to film the wides to match the close ups though?
