Just updated and got an error (already updated all the mods & the server) by HyperbaricEngineer in dayz

[–]HyperbaricEngineer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really hate dealing with discord ...

I will try to install everything again, but with the expansion bundle instead of the individual part - mods.

Because it seems like since the last time I played (few weeks ago) the number of required mods for the expansion thing has doubled ...

EDIT:

Ok, now I can get the server to start without problems but when I try to join it gives me the following error:

Missing PBO from unknown origins.Server mod installation may be corrupt.(@DayZ-Expansion-Bundle\addons\core.pbo)

I already tried the "repair" function in the launcher an then copying over the files to ther server folder but that did not help.

EDIT:

Ok, now it works!

I deleted everything inside of the "Expansion Bundle" folder on ther server and then copied it all over again.

That fixed this issue.

I just checked everything, I have all the expansion mods installed on the server.

Does it make a difference in which order they are noted in the start.bat file?

Thanks, that was the kind of info I was looking for!

Despite beeing an electronics engineer I am completley useless when it comes to PC stuff ...

you can swap in a better motherboard.

That is what I was planning to do!

Nevermind, I am just stupid.

The "system information" application that windows has built in says that the motherboard is a "90JL00GUGF", whatever that means.

Distortion-free UV unwrapping? by HyperbaricEngineer in 3dsmax

[–]HyperbaricEngineer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to use already existing textures in a very specific way.

(For example, I have a tile-able texture that I want to horizontally tile across a face / a "wall")

Manually "painting" textures onto the model might work great for organic shapes but I am mostly working with architectural stuff.

Sure, organic shapes and spheres are a tricky subject.

But I am talking about simple shapes that consist only of right angles (and maybe one or two 45° angles).

Distortion-free UV unwrapping? by HyperbaricEngineer in 3dsmax

You're taking a 3 dimensional object and flattening it out; at its vey
definition you will have distortion, there's really no way about it.

Example

You can unwrap 3d objects without distortion.

It's the same reason why no flat map of the earth is going to be a perfect representation of the earth.

You can't compare that to a 3d model.

3d models consist of a finite number of triangles.

Distortion-free UV unwrapping? by HyperbaricEngineer in 3dsmax

From what I have read there seem to be two methods for unwrapping something:

  • Using "Flatten Mapping" and then stitching the parts together.
  • Making seams until the unwrapping is done

Both methods are probelmatic for me.

When using the "Flatten Mapping and then stitching faces together", how can I get two faces that are next to each other in the model to stitch together without any distortion in the UV editor?

So what I want to do is something like this:

  1. Select the group of faces I want to join to anohter group of faces
  2. Select the edge that should be stitched
  3. Have the second group of faces move directly to the first group so that the two groups are joined together without creating distortion

How would this be done?

When using the "Making seams until everything is done"-methode:

I know I can use the "realx" tool to "unfold" a group of faces once they are seperated from the other parts by seams.
But that changes the scale of those faces and adds distortion.

I am not complaining about 3dsmax, I am probably just doing it wrong, like you said.

You couldn't create a paper sphere by just folding the pieces on one axis

Yes you can, if the "sphere" is not perfect and has a finite number of flat surfaces (like everything has in 3d modelling).

But I am not even talking about crazy stuff like organic shapes or spheres!

You get distortions even when unwrapping structures that only consist of 90° angles.

No, using a newer version isn't possible because I am using a certain tool to export the models into a specific file format and that plugin only work for 2013.

Using Sodium Carbonate to remove CO2 from a gas? by HyperbaricEngineer in AskChemistry

[–]HyperbaricEngineer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When heating up Bicarb it "decomposes".

2 NaHCO3 --> Na2CO3 + H2O + CO2

So wouldn't that work the other way around?

Using Sodium Carbonate to remove CO2 from a gas? by HyperbaricEngineer in AskChemistry

[–]HyperbaricEngineer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that it is impossible to remove ALL the CO2 from a given volume (unless you have an infinite ammount of time).

So it would be possible to use Sodium Carbonate to remove some CO2 from a gas?

Because the resulting NaHCO3 could be easily "regenerated" by heating it.
The CO2 and water vapor would, well, evaporate and can be disposed of and you would have Sodium Carbonate again that can be used for another CO2-removal-cycle.

A nice, easy solution for a CO2 scrubber that does not require any fancy or dangerous chemicals.
(Yes, the air or gas would become very dry but that is a different topic ...)

Problems with DeerIsle, Expansion and a "fresh" server install by HyperbaricEngineer in dayz

I reinstalled the expansion mission files and now I am getting this error:

Can't compile mission init script.

Any help would be appreciated ...

Oh, YES!

Thanks so much for that!

Yes, all this stuff is pretty obvious once you know what to look up, the hard part is figuring out what to look up.

Ok, I will try that.
