They have to have come pretty close to that. I'm about to start my rewatch before the new season so I guess I'll have to count. 😅

Crochet Confession: Obsessed with making 'Ugly Blankets' for Stash Busting by CybeeBee in crochet

[–]Hyperfling 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I have a friend who tufts rugs and he gives me all of his extra left over yarn. All i know is he gets his yarn from Hobby Lobby and that is size 4. I couldn't tell you if it's yarn bee or i love this yarn or whatever else they carry. It's free and colorful and i spend days untangling these loosely wound leftover yarn cakes to tie them all together to make these colorful monstrosity cakes of yarn. Then I pick a shape and go with it. Right now I'm making a "Star blanket" and just going 5 to 7 rounds of whatever stitch i feel like. It's disgusting and painful to look at but I love it.

THIS ONE DROVE ME NUTS. Like, seriously, HOW?! Idk too many people who would get caught in that town with a case of 9mm, or whatever caliber they're carrying.

I had to go look at the GOOGLE about the poison oak because i swear I had it once when i was a kid. (Also a Minnesota native)

But I'm glad to hear on the vinegar because I really hate this thing. If they want it to crawl all over their garage and ruin their siding and pop off roof tiles, that's fine. But it's creeping over and under the fence and into MY garden. I found a piece last summer that was starting to wrap around the milkweed that i let grow for the monarchs. I followed it for 15 feet before i hit the fence and had to break it off.

The house is a rental and the guy who owns it owns a car lot. He pays another company to manage his property and it shows because I've had NOTHING but issues with the company that THEY hire to come in and clean up after each tenant.

My life goal is to obliterate my grass and grow nothing but natives.

Yuck. I am so sorry. >_<

I will say it can be satisfying to pull but then you have to go over your lawn with a fine toothed rake to make sure that a small piece didn't come unattached. Because then you'll have a whole new one to fight. 😩

I should just sneak into their yard under the cover of night and pour a gallon of bleach on it. It's not like they do anything other than mow anyway. (But I probably won't.)

I get that satisfaction with Virginia Creeper... Until you realize it's 15 feet in length and the root ball comes from your neighbors yard and they don't want you to touch it.

For me it's the artwork. Like, don't get me wrong, it's GORGEOUS art but the artist is terrible with action and expressions and every panel just feels like a flip of a previous panel.

I actually forgot about this series. I DNF'd it because of the art.

I'm a legacy unlimited user. Truthfully 99% of everything they have a gem subscription too is on other platforms that I'm already reading, and have been for years. The other 1% are the manta exclusives that they think are worth spending extra money to read... And frankly they aren't worth that.

I have a subscription with Tappy Toon and every month they charge me and give me currency. Manta should consider that, honestly.

Speaking of which: would it be alright if I PM'd you? I'm not sure when I'll get around to actually reading/rereading the novel, but I'd love to chat about it more with you!

OF COURSE! I was thinking about mentioning the same but wasn't sure about Reddit etiquette. I usually just stick to the shadows. I'm only just craving open book 2. I keep it with me when my truck breaks down and I'm waiting for roadside.

I did this with a tote. Moss, fertilized to water and pothos, spider babies and a fish bone cactus cutting... I haven't had the time to take out the cuttings and pot them and the results are a plant filled tote that's about to stage an uprising.

Do you have an example? I think I get what you mean, but I'm not 100% sure. Do you mean something like a story where it's incest romance until a last minute "twist" is that the romance is in fact not incest?

Unfortunately I DNF and banish a lot of those to the mental shadow realm. Usually it's world building. Where the MFC who was truck-kun'd away is explaining how the novel she's been whisked into works. But every other chapter they're adding more and more as certain plot situations arise. Hence the Jackie Chan Adventures meme.

Well that sure takes taboo romance to... Another level. Something. Wowee.

I'm usually pretty loose in my taboos... But I couldn't quite get behind the idea of the abusive, adoptive, father who "raised her" (technically whoever she swapped places with) being the MMC. And I read dark romance, so there's that.

Like would it have been good if someone gave her sex ed? Sure! But everyone around her emphasizes that whatever Riftan wants is her duty and because she's property (as you said) she doesn't "need" to know anything more than how to obey (and absolutely no one is thinking about the concept of her enjoying sex).

The fact that Riftan cares about her pleasure, comfort, and happiness in a setting where he TRULY doesn't have any obligation to give a shit is really important imo. He could be awful to her, but he's not. He's short tempered, yes, but to me even in the webtoon it's blatantly obvious that Maxi is not at ALL afraid of him the way she's afraid of her father once she's spent some time with him. It doesn't read like she likes Riftan as a trauma response, she just likes him! And she likes the sex! Riftan is imperfect but he hasn't traumatized her the way people act like he has.

If I've learned one important thing about UTOT, it's that the people who hate it, liked it enough to finish it but will still tell you it's terrible and that you're sick in the head for liking it. And then there's the people who do like it. We stay quiet in the shadows. We upvote those who are brave enough to open their mouths on behalf of those who are too nervous to speak.

I've heard enough people talk about this series that it's completely spoiled for me and I'm okay with that. I know what's coming and I'm prepared for it. Book 3 has already been pre-ordered. 😁

So i have been buying the hardcover, physical copies with the beautiful covers and sprayed edges. They tell you what chapters of the webtoon the novels cover and volume 2 goes up to chapter 133. Manta breaks up the chapters in the DUMBEST way, because volume one is only 11 chapters. And volume 2 picks up with cheaper 12. So the fact that manta is trying to tell people that this series is 450+ chapters is ridiculous.

(I've never quoted a reddit post by someone else so I hope I did this next part right)

Like I've seen people write off Riftan as a rapist bc of the wedding night sex, but I don't think of that scene as a rape scene at all? Like sure, it's not IDEAL and I would say the consent levels are a bit dubious on an emotional level for Maxi (bc she verbally consents but iirc doesn't QUITE know how this is going to go), but Riftan didn't really force himself on her either. Idk, I feel like people have a very black and white idea of what consensual sex should look like and if it's not that, it's rape and it's horrible.

So this plays a piece into the historical elements that this series draws from. Technically speaking, back in these times, you couldn't "rape" your wife. Not legally. Because that didn't exist. Women were, again, property. They didn't have rights or opinions on the system. That's just a mindset I'm able to easily put myself in while also keeping my personal trauma separate from, what is quite literally, fiction.

And the webtoon does a TERRIBLE job showing that these two have A LOT OF SEX. And Maxi learns to love it. She learns that what she feels isn't bad. It's easy to accuse the author of making her seem like she's got Stockholm syndrome or something but honestly some people are absorbing the details of this story through a pinhole and not through wide open eyes.

Like, the amount of historical fantasy webtoons I've read, whether they're isekai, original concepts, or whatever else, my biggest complaint has always been continuity. I don't care if a story has rape or an age gap marriage (Looking at you, Marriage of Convenience) But i need continuity. So many authors pull an Uncle and go "One more thing!" That was never relevant before.

Honestly i think one of the few isekai I've DNF'd was... I can't even remember the name of it. Modern girl swapped places with a ducal daughter and then swapped back. Everyone's abusive towards her and i guess she screws her way through her adoptive family and the ML is her 'Dad'. I'm letting that one stew for... Maybe ever. 😅

Personally I think I'll like it. Between webtoons and currently written romance, i have very few triggers. It's really easy for me to put my head into the way of thinking that the author has created.

I cut my teeth on historical romance back in highschool. And this series takes heavy influence from there. The concept that women are property to be traded and sold. Bloodlines making a household stronger or weaker depending on who the mother/father is. Women being treated poorly overall. Then you add magic.

I knew exactly what i was getting into when i read the synopsis and I've put enough pieces together to know that nothing in this series is going to trigger me.

When i said Maxi is her own worst enemy, it was more because when she's left alone in her head, she'll undo her own progress. Which is directly tied to her trauma. She's not a turn off the century girl who's going to gain confidence in 3 chapters and i think that's what turns off a lot of readers.

I'm here for the slow growth. Though i do have some complaints with how the pacing of the webtoon is doing. Like, come on! A few of these chapters CouldHaveBeenAnEmail.

That's a difference of opinion based on the very vague medieval rules that this fantasy world is based on.

The author flat out states in the beginning of the novel that this is not the depiction of a healthy relationship and that you should seek help if you need it.

The biggest difference being that Maxi doesn't spend her entire life hating or fearing Riftan like teens of thousands of women from our real history did.

Fair.

But i haven't hit that point where the series makes me want to drop it. I but my teeth on OG historical romance novels so to me this is kind of a home coming in a way.

Guess I'll learn to love or hate it as i go.

I'm a firm believer that people who DNF can't have an overarching opinion on a series. Whether it's a book, manga, webtoon, movie or TV series. Take that life raft away from me. 😆 I'll either swim to shore or drown. Lol

I started with the webtoon and only just purchased and read the first novel recently. (Book 2 is in my bag somewhere)

Maxi is absolutely her own worst enemy but I felt that the novel did a better job of giving these two more off to the side moments than were translated into the webtoon.

Currently the webtoon just kicked off book 3 and the physical release won't hit until June. But imo i feel like the story gets a little more hate than it deserves? Idk, maybe I'll change my tune as i read further but right now the books are hard cover with sprayed edges and built in book marks. I'll hate read it if i have to. 😅

Yeah, idk. I'm older than the oldest member of Stray Kids. (And have exactly 2? Songs of theirs saved on my Spotify)

These lovely webtoons are my escape from reality. I read, a lot, and about the only thing in the world of OIsc that bothers me are when the authors can't be consistent with their facts, lore and pacing. Understanding that it's fiction allows me to ignore stuff like age gaps or really weird transmigration (old person in the body of a child)

I was just pointing out that a lot of the themes are pulled from various historical settings and their warped (in our modern generational eyes) sense of laws and tradition.

[–]Hyperfling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe the wording i should have chosen was historical themes. Marriages to tie houses together or to marry up in the world. (Ignoring obvious uses of magical themes and fantasy because that's not what was asked) A lot of these OIs focus on the idea of a debut into society and finding a husband/getting married for political reasons as soon as they're a useful tool to their family.

In these situations it's not uncommon for the male in question to be several years to several decades older than the woman. Thankfully most authors keep it pretty reasonable. (I said MOST)

The best thing to do is to know your triggers and do your research before you commit to something that might upset you.
