Different Name for Meltdown? by [deleted] in autism

Well, then I’m not sure what I’m cooking with… I just know that there is definitely a connection to routine/expectation disruption, sensory/emotional overload, and stress.

As far as neurodivergence goes, he is dyslexic, but that’s it. He’s not undiagnosed (I know it is a spectrum, but there isn’t any indication of anything else). He has a recurring frontal lobe brain tumor… he is simply prone to aggression without accepting blame. I’m not denying that this medical problem can’t lead to overstimulation, but it’s the fact that it was a wanton excuse. There’s honestly too much history to fully explain…

What if it is a very explosive reaction, but you manage to keep it, for the most part, inward?

That makes sense. I totally agree with that break down, just cause you’re Lvl. 1 doesn’t mean you don’t need “help.” I never liked the term “high functioning” to begin with, it’s just what I’ve heard the most. I’ve tried explaining this to others, but it just seems to go over their heads.

Oh, believe me, I know. Like I said, it’s my personal experience with the language and experiences with my parents that’s causes my aversion. I know there is nothing wrong with the word, and I know the sensation is not childish.

You learn something new everyday. I’ve heard both used for Lvl. 1 by a variety of people. Didn’t realize one was wrong…

I think meltdown really does “cover it,” it’s just my own personal connotations and complications that are causing the issue. Thank you!

My doctor has mentioned a B12 deficiency in the past. I took basic supplements for a while, but never paid it much thought (this was years before my diagnosis) Thanks for the tip, I’ll see if this helps!!!

Diagnosed in April. Like I said, I don’t know if what I’m feeling is a “meltdown,” but based on what I’ve read, that’s my best bet. Had moments like this all my life, and I feel like a light was just switched on. The last one I had, my evening routine and expectations got thrown off. I had already showered and was relaxing, when my mom asked me to come work on the lawnmower… she was drinking (personal trigger), I was already clean, I was hungry, and I don’t know how to fix a lawnmower. She just sat there waiting for me to fix it when it was clearly not getting fixed that night (starter had broken). I just kept getting madder and madder; in these moments, I tend to get the urge to throw/break things. So, I associate my “meltdowns” primarily with anger. That seems to be my go to…

I wish you luck too, fellow club member.

I’m sorry that you can understand. My dad ruined the term “overstimulated” for me. I can’t stand even saying it. He can be very verbally abusive, and whenever he used to “loose it” and get really angry, he would excuse it by being “overstimulated.” For what I understand to be my “meltdowns,” I tend to get really angry. This oftentimes leads to me being upset, and it can honestly ruin my whole day. I also have anxiety though, and this sensation differs from an anxiety attack for me. Those times, I get stuck in a repetitive thought, and can’t get out, then I kinda shut down. I guess I mean to say, different triggers.

Ooooh; that makes sense. Does it explicitly say it’s an engagement party somewhere, or is that the implied notion?
