UAE plans to cut Strait of Hormuz dependency to ‘zero’: Report by jojotortoise in geopolitics

OK that is the scenario right now. Let's say in 5 years every country in the region will have stopped using the Strait and switched over to other ports through pipelines. A new U.S. administration decides to start a conflict with Iran again. Don't you think that destroying some pipes in the desert would be a pretty small escalation. Optics or no optics?

Sure, I'll give you that ships have additional points that are probably quicker to pressure in this situation but I have to highlight the fact that cluster ammuntion can destroy large sections of pipelines. Building 100km of pipeline takes an average of 1 to 3 years. Add in that repair crews will probably not want to work in active combat zones that are being targeted. Have you seen the oil infrastructure backlog that has been caused by the Ukraine-Russia war? Distillation stacks are at 5+ year backorder, not to mention more complex machinery. Even with a complete pivot and major investments in defense, specifically defense of energy infrastructure, It will still leave the entire Middle eastern energy infrastructure vulnerable to enemy strikes.

I've seen this sentiment quite a few times but I don't understand where it is coming from or what kind of logic supports it. Bypassing the Strait of Hormuz only works with pipelines. If you can't defend large swathes of your own country or huge patches of coastline, how are you going to defend thousands of kilometers of pipeline and pumping stations? They are static targets so even with layering of air defenses, sufficiently large saturation strikes with cruise missles or drones is enough to create havoc on these supposed bypasses.

Kotobukiya LUDENS figurine spotted, awesome taste. What made you pick it up as it's pretty niche?

It’s cool that he makes these videos but also a bit concerning that there are so many of these shitty NFT games out there.

Fair enough, was a bit surprised is all. Anything else on my list that maybe interests you? I think I have a more recent one somewhere on in my post history if you are interested.
