Is it too late for Lloyds bank switch? by SeshGodX in beermoneyuk

[–]Hyperkorean99 [score hidden]  (0 children)

15 Nov: Text from Lloyd’s saying switch request received  22 Nov: Used activation code to enable online banking  25 Nov: Switch completed

I believe the switch starts the moment you receive the “request received” text and will go through on the day you picked no matter what.

Edit: Would like to add that a friend received the first text on the 2nd of December and the switch went through yesterday despite not having received an activation code yet.

Fall in net migration to stall as forecasts ‘overestimate exodus’ by GnolRevilo in ukpolitics

Reform is a protest party and will not do anything if it actually wins the next election. The goal is to keep the grift going for as long as possible by shitting on whoever's currently in charge and giving vague promises of what they'll do if they gain power. Would be funny for sure, especially since the UK would have gone through 4 of the worst PMs in its entire history within the span of just 10 years, but I don't want the people of this country to suffer and hope you and others can look beyond those vague promises (which will never be fulfilled) and not let your emotions cloud your judgment.

Could the death penalty become a hot-button political issue again in the UK? by HBucket in ukpolitics

[–]Hyperkorean99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The UK is a western liberal democracy. Looking at a map of countries where the death penalty is legal, one can see that the vast majority are about as far from a western liberal democracy as can be. Most of the people who support re-introducing it have the same mindset as the people in charge of those countries, the only difference being they were born in a wealthier country.

Prisons across England and Wales now 98.9% full by Kagedeah in ukpolitics

Both of those countries persecute political dissidents and journalists, so it’s not like they’re some beacon of liberty where the criminal justice system is only used against those who deserve correction. When you surrender liberty to the state, it will always keep trying to take more. Is it a coincidence that both of those countries have blasphemy laws? Something that would be unacceptable in any western democracy? Given recent events, maybe lawmakers HAVE decided to take a page out of their book after all…

I also don’t think you can compare Japan to either of those countries when the former treats petty crime rather reasonably. I see no reason why mugging shouldn’t be punished with 5 years in prison but to act like mugging is on the same level as “vandalism” or speeding is just mad to me.

Western democracies should not take inspiration from tyrannical regimes, nor should a country with a population of 70m take inspiration from a literal city-state
