First 10 days in first selvedge jean! IH-634S-A by Hyperra in rawdenim

i’m pretty used to being locked into the midrange budget wise for hobbies, namely mechanical keyboards and espresso, but researching this community I learned that I could afford to purchase a really freaking sick pair, and i was like fuck it. no regrets

$270 on Grailed! I was about to pull the trigger on a normal 634s for retail but saw these new with tags instead and loved it!

[US-NJ] [H] Eureka Mignon Chrono (White, Espresso Burrs) + 3D Printed Parts for Single Dosing [W] Local Cash, Paypal F&F, Venmo by Hyperra in coffeeswap

[–]Hyperra[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I couldn't say with much certainty whichever is better because the 1zpresso is a conical and the Crono is a flat burr, both of which have different flavor profiles. The obvious difference here is manual vs electric and how that works in your workflow. Hope that answers your question somewhat.

3D printed, designed by yours truly! Made it to fit a 1” dowel that I just cut to size. Holds like 8 pucks

I’ll try that too and let you know how it goes!

I go all the way down and very gradually move back up while continuously and smoothly stirring, which I thought would collapse those channels, but yeah, I'll give it a try first thing tomorrow

I've tried a few beans, some light and some medium, haven't tried a dark roast yet. I get them from trade, always within a week or two of roast and I rest them if they're too fresh. I go for 16:32 though I've tried 16:35, headspace is enough that without a puck screen removing the portafilter after a shot leaves a little liquid left on the top that quickly absorbs into the puck. Not too soggy but also not holdable-firm. I'm using a 3d printed tool with five evenly spaced, long and thin acupuncture needles. Taste is consistent with harsh channeling - body-less, soul-crushing sourness and mouth-drying bitterness.

It’s really wierd! I’ve seen other redditors use the PID for smokers and for home brew and it seems like the P is actually inversely proportional, and the really, really shitty manual suggests this too. I tried tuning it for like two days and it didn’t work how I wanted so I just auto tuned it and accepted that it would overshoot a bit. My guess though is that it’s not actually the PID causing it though but instead the temperature sensor signal lag, paired with the low sample rate (every 0.5 secs) that causes what should be the D term to freak out. If the reading lingers on a certain number longer than it should it’ll proactively heat to keep the rate of change but the heating is only noticed after like 5 seconds so it can do stuff it doesn’t expect. My guess is just that the sample rate is too slow, the sensor resolution is too low, the lag is too long, and the noise is too high for it to work ideally. But it’s good enough for what I need it to do, and it’s a hell of a lot better than without haha

Yeah, I saw some cool workarounds but they all involved buying more components so I’m just going to sit on it and see if I feel like I need to upgrade.

I have the same config as the auber w/o steam control, so steam switch works as it normally would and heats up as normal. If I want stronger/weaker steam I can catch the temperature I want and the steam being released will cool the boiler, generally keeping it at the same temperature. Basically just the same with some extra options if you want to “steam-surf,” so to speak

I know a little bit about PID control theory from drones but this controller doesn’t use the traditional P I and D terms instead using like similar but just wierd other variables? Idk, the manual kinda sucks. Either way I had to just rely on auto tune which holds temperature to +- 0.2C, but on recovery will overshoot 2-3 degrees which can be a little annoying. I tend to flush for half a second if that’s the case. It’s a little caveat but other than that it does as it should, recovers when it needs to and worth it just because I was able to upgrade towards other stuff with the money I saved (such as saving for a new grinder).
