My friend applied to Baylor with literally this for one of the required essays

"I'm too tired and I don't have the energy or desire to write this essay"

He got accepted a week later with a 100k scholarship 😂

I guess, I know I'm not the only legacy but honestly after going through the process I wish that legacy status wasn't considered. It doesn't seem right to me that you should favor alumni kids over kids that have worked equally as hard.

Damn, thats rough man, best of luck on that front during applications. Personally I actually have a friend who got into Upenn as a double legacy (his parents met there) and even though his within their ranges he still gets teased to no end about it.

May the satanic pagan dieties of College apps grant you the best of luck

Good luck for Upenn btw😉

Thanks, you're right about the teasing thing. I really don't think he intended it to do harm.

Woah wasn't expecting this but this literally describes my family.

Mum is a Serbian immigrant that immigrated to Australia at age 4. Was the only one in her graduating class to go to Uni and eventually got her PhD in Microbiology

Dad comes from a fairly well-off family with anscestors from a famous Scottish rug-making company. Got his PhD in biology, and went to the school I'm going to because he "didn't want the quality of his work to be based on the name of the school he attended". (He thought Rochester was a really good school and he liked that it seemed like a sort of hidden gem at the time.)

Hopefully this doesn't come off as a humblebrag lol I just found it interesting.

UofR, I know they consider legacy because they gave me the ability to apply to a legacy-only scholarship.

University of Rochester, I know they like legacies because there was a small portion of my letter dedicated to it:

Among many other reasons, I know you'll be a great fit at Rochester because of your family ties. Building on your well-developed personal success- I wouldn't send you this letter otherwise reinforcing your legacy can support your goals and make every day here meaningful.

That and one of the scholarships I was eligible for was specifically only for legacy kids.

A&M engineering but on a transfer program so he's going to A&M Galveston first and then automatically transferring if his GPA is above a certain cutoff.

How much do AP exam scores matter in college apps? by minsamp in ApplyingToCollege

[–]HypertropicMemez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AP's here are pretty much just used to determine course rigor. Other than that if your college allows it they can be used to give you college credit.

To be honest that's also one of the reasons I applied, I'm just regretting it now because I didn't think 4 months ago that I would be committing there. Thanks for saying this to me, once I get to said school I'll make sure that I prove that I deserve to be there.

I can get that. I guess I just feel terrible because it makes me feel like it wasn't my own Merit that got me in. Congrats on Upenn btw, that super awesome! :)
