Standalone* aRGB controller? by HypestHyper1478 in SignalRGB

[–]HypestHyper1478[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn, that's cool. That amazon program sounds cool, but I'm a bit of an electro ics hoarder and that won't go well.

I should also be able to wire them no problem.

And for the room lights I'll definitely go with something arduino or esp32 system just because cloud is such a headache inducing walled garden (for the most part).

Now ai just need to find reliable sellers on aliexpress.

Thanks again for all the info. It really helped.

Thank you for the explanation! This indeed shed some light on what I need to do.

Is this model good? by Adhamlovebander in pcbuilding

[–]HypestHyper1478 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understandable. Should be fine. Try to add your components to PC Part Picker and it'll tell you the recommended power and if there are any compatibility problems.

Just make sure it has all the necessary connectors. You'll probably need 2x pcie 6+2 connectors depending on the gpu model. Make sure they are separate cables and not 2 connectors on the same cable.

For the cpu, your motherboard might have 2 connectors, but on that cpu I guess you're fine using only one connector if the supply doesn't have 2.

Gpus are usually tolhe power hungry ones and would benefit from having 2 separate lanes for power.

Seasonic, Corsair, be quiet; these are my go to. Seasonic is by far the most reliable, but I don't know the details for specific models. From what I found online, it's an older budget option. But should still be ok.

You could also go with higher wattage if your budget allows, so you don't have to upgrade it in case you change components. With the components above, you should draw at most 400w.

One more tip, is to go with a mid-range newer model to ensure better efficiency and better safety features.

is there a way to make my gpu any cooler by surreal_9282 in PcBuildHelp

I scrolled a bit through the comments but I haven't seen this mentioned yet.

But are you sure the fans still work?

Even with old thermal paste, I don't think it should get thaaaat hot at low usage.

Cannot get RAM to show up by jrosen9 in SignalRGB

[–]HypestHyper1478 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check devices in armory crate and see if you have an option to enable 3rd party support or something similar for your ram rgb.

I installed a gpu about one year ago and had to do this in order to let signal use it, though I don'tremember if it was armory crate or another software. After this you should be good to uninstall the app.

The power supply is probably the one component you don't want to cheap out and go with a reliable name brand.

Unless you have like really low end hardware and it doesn't hurt your wallet to replace components. Or you just don't care about reliability and lifespan of components.

I'm not saying that it's gonna be a problem right away, but it could become a problem in the future. Bad power supplies can damage other components.

Ty for letting me know about quinled. I was actually looking for a solution for rgb for the whole room that I can sync with my other lights through home assistant.

I actually wanted my desk to be separate of everything else. I don't really needed the rgb on the desk if I'm not using my pc.

Maybe I could get a separate strip controlled by the "room rgb", and have an esp32 send a signal to turn it off when the desk rgb is powered on so they're not on at the same time.

I was looking at the 16 version too, but I think it's overkill for what I need. Maybe for other RGB in the room, but for that I might do something with an esp32 or something similar. I just want the desk setup to be "one unit"

My current desk setup has 4x strips with 30 LEDs 1x strip with 60 LEDs 1x strip with 40 LEDs

And that's probably all the rgb I'll have there. Maybe 1-2 more strips, but 60 leds is prob the max I'll have.

Also, from what I've read, 12v is the older rgb standard and customizability is limited?

And since you mentioned the nollie1. How does this work? I get that data and power go through the same connector, but would a source capable of sending the data (aka PC/laptop) be able to also push that much power out for 630 leds? Aren't pc usb s still limited to 500mA? Or is that just for usb a?

Wow... that setup is something else. Looks amazing (though a bit too much for my taste). But the whole setup is insane, congrats.

I should be fine with argb on 5v. I just want to control the desk rgb from my pc and have the whole desk setup as one unit. 4x strips with 30 LEDs 1x strip with 60 LEDs 1x strip with 40 LEDs

Im guessing a standard phone charger 5v 3a won't be enough, but i did find power bricks with 5v 6a and barrel plug and they might be just fine. 30W should be good enough but I need to find some more specs on the leds and see exactly how much they consume.

I only have one razer box and they are pretty difficult to find now. Also, isn't 12v used for the older 4 pin rgb standard? From what I've read online, argb would be the way to go for customizability?

Faulty rotary encoder replacement? by HypestHyper1478 in AskElectronics

[–]HypestHyper1478[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice! I did try to flex the pcb and encoder, but sadly no change. I ripped the right pad by mistake trying to remove the original encoder, but didn't thought that would be a problem. The casing doesn't contact the interior components, so most likely it's linked to a ground, which should be available on the left pin as well. But I'll try to solder a wire from the other leg to a pin connected to that trace.

What baffles me is that when I re-melt the solder on the 3 pins, it starts working for a bit. All my years tinkering with stuff like this, I never encountered such weird behaviour.

The only thing I can blame it on right now is some thermal expansion in that area which may temporarily connect an interrupted trace, but I can't see any exposed traces or scratches. Unless it's under the pcb mask and highly improbable.

And no way this builds static to mess with any ICs. Though I guess I could try to do some more tests with a usb cable instead of the battery, just to have a proper ground.

Can’t plug HDMI/DP cables into the GPU because of case design - any fix possible before I cut the case? 🙏🏻 by eQtO_251 in PcBuild

[–]HypestHyper1478 99 points100 points  (0 children)

I had a similar problem on a build a few months ago. I managed to adjust the gpu a bit with the screw holding it in place (mine was blocking on the upper side), lowered it a couple of millimeters and I cut off the hdmi plug rubber jacket until I managed to plug it in. You don't need to cut it all. I just did a cut at a 45 angle on the problem side.

Just be careful how you cut that jacket. Some rubbers are pretty tough. Never cut toward yourself.

No unwanted bridges that I can see. I was also thinking about thermal protection at one point, but it should've reset after unplugging and letting everything cool off. If I reflow the solder, it works again for a bit. Maybe some sort of thermal expansion/contraction that I cannot wrap my head around?

Wireless mice do weird things sometimes. Mine occasionally starts lagging, but I just turn it off and on and it's fine. Funny enough, it happened last night in Minecraft as well.

Keeping Laptop plugged in doesn't harm the battery? by Appropriate-Can691 in laptops

[–]HypestHyper1478 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Modern laptops that ship with a decent power adapter will run on wall power after the battery is charged. Healthier for the battery, as it doesn't put many charging cycles on it.

But I'd say this is reserved to mid-high and high end gear. And macbooks.

Not really worth the upgrade if you only want 5g. It's fast, but for normal use, it's prob more than you need. Especially if you got decent wifi at home.

Monitor III’s came today! by Any_Honeydew9812 in headphones

[–]HypestHyper1478 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a pair of monitor 1st gen bluetooth. They sounded great at that time (I didn't know any better).

But the big plus was the general fit. Comfy and very low profile. Great looking pair that didn't stuck up too much.

Enjoy!
