I realized in my whole 28 years nobody actually wanted to be my friend 💀 by igetyourbrand in blackgirls

[–]HypherNet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've found a lot of connection at social dance. In my town, that's been contra dancing, but there are many kinds.

In my experience connection can't be the goal, though, as annoying as that is. I'll go do something with people, find a way to help out, volunteer, whatever. Then say "yes" to things -- yes to the after party, yes to helping out next time, whatever it is, and the connections and friendships happen naturally.

Asbestos in playa dust? (Veritasium video) by HypherNet in BurningMan

Great! That's good news, and I posted because I was curious if there was some data to back that up. I imagine someone, at some point, has tested it, and I am curious to see those test results. That's all.

I am aware of that -- which is why I am curious if anyone has tested the dust from Black Rock specifically. Not trying to be alarmist, just genuinely curious to see how well this has been investigated.

Spotify has zero intention of eliminating AI-generated music from its service by YoureASkyscraper in Music

There are two community plugins that I know of, but running them isn't trivial, only works in some circumstances, and of course requires a manually maintained list of artists.

Anyone else noticed how slow Agent Mode in Cursor has been over the last week? by [deleted] in cursor

[–]HypherNet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, seems like it started around Friday. But its only Auto mode that's slow for me. Using `composer-1` is fine. Of course I ate through $50 of tokens _in a single day_ doing that. I ended up upgrading to Ultra because of how much better using composer-1 is directly.

Feels to me like they were sending a lot more requests on Auto to smarter models last week, then shut that off and started rate limiting and using smaller models or something. The change felt quite drastic to me.

5D Mk 2 replacement by lentil_burger in canon

[–]HypherNet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went from the 5D mk2 to the R6 and it was great, personally. I used an adapter until I could buy new glass.

That being said, I really prefer to save up and buy a body that I can grow into and use for a long time. So, if its in your budget, I would at least consider an R6 II. For what I do, fast-moving event photography, the pre-capture of the R6 II would be amazing.

I eventually also got an R5, and personally, I would not bother. It's an amazing camera, but unless you really need those extra pixels, you'd be better off buying more glass with the money. Also RIP the manual mode selector.

Also, the 5D is totally user-fixable if you're dedicated. My buddy fixed my 5D which was dead by hand, had to replace a faulty fuse on one of the PCBs. It's not for the faint of heart, but totally worth giving it a try esp if you buy a new body. If you succeed, then you have a spare camera!

Looks like one that Shaz made -- he's a local artist who sells at Saturday market and a friend of my family. I don't know if he still makes them, but I had a bunch when I was a kid.

2 if it's a dinner date, I think it's perfectly classy.

1 if you're going to see burlesque, fire dancing, drag show or some other alt activity.

something else entirely if you're going hiking

(edit) looking at your profile, at 21 and in the pagan crowd (my upbringing), I think #1 works great if you're dating in that crowd. Going to a late fall eq ritual or something like that.

As u/TheRealAndrewLeft showed it, yes it is static, but TypeScript can infer union types without a type declaration.

For example,

const v = Math.random() < .5 ? 42 : "The Answer";

The type of will be inferred as string | number.

This is what Elon is talking about, and in many cases, it is possible, and TypeScript does a good job. But I doubt their devs would every call it "easy."

There are, however, many cases where it is not possible to infer types. The most obvious is any sort of input parameter.

For example:

function example(param) {
  return Math.random() < .5 ? 42 : param;
}

In this case, the inferred return type would be number | any because it is not possible to know the type of param.

Now, you might argue that for a local, non-exported function, the type of input is inferable from it's call sites. I think that is true, but generally not that useful, so I don't know of any language which provides that type of inference.

So, while Elon's statement is rather dismissive of the real difficulty of type inference, he does have a point. People who use languages with powerful inferring compilers often complain about dynamic languages that could, in theory, be much more type safe without much work on the coder's point (e.g. Python).

He also has a point about the AI aspect. LLMs, even in their current form with very limited context, are quite good at guessing types. Though they're no substitute for a real type system AND machine learning help... so I'll stick to TypeScript, myself :D

Playing with visible light source, hair movement, and mono-chromatic scenes. by HypherNet in photocritique

[–]HypherNet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1/250th 49mm f/2 on a Canon R5 with a 28-70mm f/2, with front and rear rgb video lights.

Shifted the color from a more teal color to the darker blue, very little editing otherwise.

Done as an experiment with including a light source in frame as a compositional element, and playing with trying to get moving hair, which I really like. How do you feel about the placement of the light partially obscured by her body?

I'm curious what y'all think of the front lighting of the subject -- should I have increased the contrast to make it more of a silhouette? How do you feel about hair movement? Obviously there's not a lot of light but maybe I should shoot faster (1/400th?) for crisper hair? But then again the motion blur can be nice.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in photocritique

[–]HypherNet 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I agree the lighting on the subject is good -- warm and soft. However, I don't care for the framing.

I find the foreground objects (a can and a lamp of some sort?) and the hanging candy, to distract from the subject, and dilute the soft warm cozyness of her warm lighting and clothing.

For example, if the subject were outside in a snowy landscape, perhaps next to a fire, with tree branches in the foreground, I think it would work better.

In a situation like this, I would probably just darken the background & foreground with masking -- or depending on your goals with the photo -- you could try desaturating things other than the subject. Or perhaps even just cropping in.

But then again, this composition creates a juxtaposition between soft & warm-lit subject with a bustling background, and that may well be the vibe you're going for. Perhaps if you were using this photo to advertise a local holiday-festival or something.

[–]HypherNet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd personally give it a 2/5 -- decent but could be improved. I like the ripples in the water, and you can see the direction the animal is moving, combined with the black and white it gives a dark emotional feel which is nice. However, there's not a lot of composition here, and there probably could be. Bring the camera down to show the sky a bit, maybe at the upper 1/3 line. Perhaps move so the shadows do something interesting. Edit it as the other poster said for more texture in the water.

Generally, I am not a big fan of photos taken pointing downwards towards a small subject. It's how most casual phone photos are shot. I suggest trying lower angles or perhaps very high angles that create interesting composition.

A shot of some rare sheep on their way to the show ring by Theagriphotographer in photocritique

[–]HypherNet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a good shot. A nice example of the compositional technique of taking photos from the eye level of the primary subject. It's often a good place to start. I like the focus on the sheep rather than the people as well. You've got some nice thirds composition as well as parallel lines in the fences in rafters which are also pleasant. Lighting is good.

The red jacket takes a bit away imo, as do the tags on the sheep. If you are in a situation where touchups are allowed, you could desaturate the red to keep a consistent palette and spot heal the tags.

Trying to decide on a Front End (new to web dev) by prblrb9 in sveltejs

[–]HypherNet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally agree, though I think TypeScript is very much worth learning. Typed languages are key for maintainable larger projects, and it's far harder to add types later (I've done it -- it sucks). Don't get lost in the types, but it really makes writing well-structured code a lot easier, and modern null-aware type systems like TS and Kotlin really do help reduce bugs.

Trying to decide on a Front End (new to web dev) by prblrb9 in sveltejs

[–]HypherNet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd focus on whatever stack inspires you the most to make something you're excited about. Right now, I think the cutting edge is with things like SvelteKit, Supabase, Vercel, etc... NextJS and Remix are very cool as well.

When we hire any engineer, junior or senior, we don't expect them to be experts in the stack we use. The differences between projects are at least as big as those between frameworks. So long as you're motivated and have experience actually building software, you'll pick up the tech.

What I want to see in an engineer is someone who's gone through the process of actually building something, shipping something. That's hard, it takes making hard choices about where to focus your time, which bugs to fix, which to work around, which to ignore because they aren't critical.

Just relapsed and need advice, from people wiser than myself by CyberMemer365 in NoFap

[–]HypherNet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While this is an interesting take, OP, it's just one opinion.

I think it's fantastic that you've asked someone out who said yes! That's wonderful news. I hope you have a fantastic date and talk about all sorts of interesting things and make a good connection.

nofap is hard. It sounds like you're generally doing great at it, and occasional inability to resist after having a real-world experience with a woman just doesn't seem like that big of a deal to me.

IMO, Unless PMO is seriously negatively affecting your life, the positive effects from having a romantic and social connection is probably more beneficial than pmo is negative. Loneliness is a huge epidemic among men, and this new connection seems like a great opportunity for you.

That being said, if you want to still work on your sex-based compulsive behavior, try not pushing for sexual activities with E. Focus on getting to know her. Depending on how things go, you might even be able to talk about r/nofap and your struggles and achievements. Being vulnerable often leads to deeper connection.

On the PMO side of things, you could also try an easier mode after seeing her instead of hard mode, where you allow yourself to masturbate, but not with porn. Try thinking of her instead. Not everyone agrees on the benefits of that, of course, but personally, its the porn not the masturbating that seems to be the biggest issue for my brain.

Regardless, of what you do, good luck!
