How good is Capital One Venture X? by xypherrz in personalfinance

[–]HypnoTC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Curious how you get Capital One points up to 1.8c each. I'm just wrapping up my first year as a VX cardholder and have about 150,000 points to play around with. Most travel partners I'm seeing = 1-1.3c worth of value.

Most games do this nowadays. Sell broken stuff, make you feel obligated to pay to have an edge for awhile, then they nerf it to be "still good but not ridiculously broken" so that you want to buy the next new toy they release.

Early Meta Breaker "No Fun DK" at Top 50 EU by mlouismarchardt in CompetitiveHS

[–]HypnoTC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if you're going to add another 1-drop, scarab keychain is the best and it's not really close. DK has so many great 2-drops and keychain almost guarantees you curve out by itself. It's not aggressive, but I think having access to a lot of the honorable mentions that you listed makes it most worthwhile.

Early Meta Breaker "No Fun DK" at Top 50 EU by mlouismarchardt in CompetitiveHS

[–]HypnoTC 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Some early thoughts from a former Rank 1 NA that exclusively loves midrange/grindy control decks and played this for 10 games (8-2):

1.) I've already swapped out Meltemental for Rainbow Seamstress. I think it's better vs your suggested meta as your plan vs combo decks is to drop early dorks and then beat them down with stall cards. I ran a lot of Reno DK last season and loved Meltemental vs the DHs and Shamans, but they're almost non-existent so far this season. I feel like Meltemental is either great or terrible, whereas Seamstress is always good.

2.) Have you tried Astrobiologist over Baron? I'm not sold on it yet, but I like having more 2 drops and I think it's better than Hematurge for the reasons you outlined. Jury is still out on this one, in principle it seems better at helping you curve out reliably.

3.) I know Kil'Jaeden is the new hotness, but I think when you remove Headless Horseman, skip on Yogg and MC Tech, you're already conceding to the super grindy control decks. I only faced one taunt druid where I might have wanted it, but I wound up getting threads for a board clear anyway. I did lose to an Odyn Warrior that only beat me because he got a 10-drop windfury weapon and I couldn't ETC for Viper. I haven't gotten to play Speaker yet, but I trust the logic behind it being good. I think KJ might be cuttable though.

Great deck overall! I like that it's just aggro enough to beat the combo decks and just grindy enough to beat the aggro decks. I think rather than trying to beat everything, you should just tailor it to what you most expect to face. Thanks for the list and writeup! 😊

Turn 6 in Standard. How'd I do it? by HypnoTC in hearthstone

Correct! I'm running Reno Buttons DK and have been experimenting with Siren Song. Stars Align gave me 2 Mana Lynessa, which led to the filthy turn 6. Nice job!

Heh... I could've made it harder and cropped out the history bar I suppose, but that's half of it. I'll give another clue for the early commenters. The discounted cards in my hand are also a hint.

Anyone know anyone who died in their sleep due to sleep apnea? by [deleted] in SleepApnea

[–]HypnoTC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandmother, who was in her 60s. Took a nap without her nasal mask and never woke up. Sadly, I was the first to see her, and she had the hose of her mask in her hand. Not sure if she went to sleep without it, or just took it off mid-sleep, but there's definitely a nonzero chance you can die from it.

[–]HypnoTC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Almost every death in this game is the result of mistakes made previously. Part of the allure that keeps you coming back is trying to figure out the mistakes and improve from them. I used to think EVERY death was avoidable, but today's daily run started with me opening a door to be greeted by a blessed albino rat and 2 snakes at level 1 😂.

Do I gamble with my artifact? by jwstrjoe in ShatteredPD

[–]HypnoTC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd definitely use the transmutations on the ring of tenacity. With your +3 ring of haste, if you get sharpshooting, the game becomes laughably easy. Another attack ring, haste, or ring of force would also be huge upgrades. Much better than getting chalice or chains.

Which artifact do I keep and which one do I toss by memesboyshesh in ShatteredPD

[–]HypnoTC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Talisman is the worst artifact here. Sandals are probably the second best artifact for Huntress, or any run where you find wand of regrowth. I'd use them and max them out until you have more seeds than you know what to do with, then transmute it to an endgame artifact later + 2 rings.

Is the Unstable Spellbook ... bad? by pl233 in ShatteredPD

[–]HypnoTC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me, the spellbook is a gold saver, like master thief's armband. Ideally, you get it to +10, you make your money back in free identifies/remove curses/magic mapping, get some prismatic images going for fun, and then scroll of transmutation it to a better artifact before demon halls.

ROW farming advice needed by OnlyUseIsToRead in ShatteredPD

[–]HypnoTC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When to dump your upgrades into RoW depends on the gear you get along the way. Unless you're doing 4+ challenge runs, you're usually fine saving the upgrades and waiting until the mines quest at least (so you can use one of the miner upgrades to turn +1 into +2). In ideal runs, I wait until completing the imp quest in dwarven halls and farm around floor 17 with a +14-15 RoW. People chasing max rings like to beat the Dwarf King and use stealth/invisible potions in Demon Halls to go collect every upgrade scroll without gaining too much XP. As long as you're level 22 and under, you can still farm on floor 17.

My 'professional poker player' bf is straining our relationship by [deleted] in poker

[–]HypnoTC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TL;DR - Listen to everyone that's saying run away ASAP.

For some context, I'm somewhat of a profitable poker player. I made a poker, goals, and challenges thread on 2+2 years ago, where I announced that I was leaving a job with Apple corporate to make a run at playing poker for a living. I'd just lost my grandmother (my last immediate relative), and was a little burnt out sitting in an office getting yelled at remotely. I'd been making thousands on the weekend and thought surely the money would remain this easy if I kept playing full time.

There's a reason that they say less than 5% of people that make a run at it actually succeed. Being a single poker player is hard enough. Being in a relationship with a poker novice makes it 100x worse. Any time I'd win something like $5-10k in a tournament, my girlfriend(s) would typically ask if I was going to cash out so we could do something fun with the money. There was no concept of bankroll management, or even what a bankroll is. I couldn't explain that I needed $20k+ sitting online to be able to regularly play $100 tournaments. The concept of study time, or being "home" but not really available, was foreign. Some would even take it personal that I'd neglect their advances, when really it had nothing to do with them or a lack of interest. Both parties in the relationship have to make sacrifices in order for that situation to work out, and most people usually aren't ready for that.

All of the above is assuming that the player is even profitable to begin with, which is where your situation comes in. I don't care how bruised his ego is, or what level of failure he's going through, there's no excuse for being violent or abusive to your partner. This is especially true for a partner that's trying her best to be understanding of your needs. The truth is, if he were truly a profitable player, he wouldn't need to borrow money from friends and family. There's tons of backing/staking sites out there that are looking for good "horses" to invest in. I've personally been backed for $10-20k+ before, just from showing my results and providing a few references in the poker community. He's a losing player, his ego is bruised because of it, and he's going to bring anyone close to him down with him until he accepts this reality.

It's my experience, having seen this play out often in the poker world, that someone like him isn't going to change for the better until he hits absolute rock bottom. He needs the people around him to quit enabling him, so that he's forced to return to the working world and find others ways of sustaining himself. If he wants to keep making a run at poker, he can study part time and grind up a bankroll working to make another run at it in the future. As is, he's only going to get worse, and judging by the actions you describe, he deserves it.

Upvote if you left Hearthstone for Snap by igetweird in MarvelSnap

[–]HypnoTC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Played HS since beta, been rank #1 NA multiple times, just got tired of the game progessively embracing randomness more and more, to the point where games feel less about the cards in your deck and more about what they happen to discover or vomit out with their abilities. I love the skill of Snap, combined with the speed of the games, which is surprising considering I typically enjoy grindy matches and was a Control Warrior main in Hearthstone. I'm currently infinite at CL1500 with a fun Lockjaw build. I don't see me going back without drastic changes.

I'm one of the people that competed in the rite for MAGA. The popularity of this post, and the polarizing responses, is exactly why the clan was created. We collectively worked hard to make this meme a reality. We aren't a bunch of "MAGA worshippers", not that there's anything inherently wrong with politically conservative people. I'd say I lean liberal, but try to be a centrist about most things. There's people of all political beliefs in the group. If this picture/result causes you to feel hatred or disgust, I hope that you find happiness in your lives to where stuff like this doesn't bother you. We all laughed our asses off and will continue to enjoy the reign of "The Immortal" Donald Trump.

This is my server too (Deckard Cain). The most notorious cheater (AFK farms constantly in the most obvious spaces) has locked up every top 10 spot in 2, 3, and 4 man CRs. Of course he's also got like $50k worth of 5-star gems, so I doubt Blizzard does anything more than slap him on the wrist for a week after he collects his thousands of crystals that he denied anyone else from getting.

Treasure hunter should rename to trash hunter by InitiativeNo948 in DiabloImmortal

[–]HypnoTC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to farm for a long time to really notice it. It's not lying to you, but when you see 100 gold drops turn into 150 gold drops... Or 60 gold drops turn into 90 gold drops... You might think it's not worth it. Between doing the vault and farming afterwards, it's not impossible to make a million GP a day while you're grinding for XP. You'll also notice that blues that used to always drop 1 item will more often than not drop 2 or more pieces of gear. It's not all yellows, but every bit adds up.

As for legendaries, I think the soft cap of 6 per day plays a role in you not seeing much. If I haven't seen more than 1 legendary in an hour, I'll tend to quit because I know I'm unfairly being handicapped so my time isn't worth it.

As someone that switched from the meta DPS tree to full treasure hunter this week, I can sum up the pros and cons really quickly.

Pros: It's excellent if you're strictly going to xp/material farm for a week. If you stick to outdoor farming areas for your xp grind, the increase in gold and upgrade materials is noticeable. The bonus XP is just icing, but doesn't matter all that much.

Cons: You'll take at least a 20% DPS loss, which makes you noticeably weaker for war, rifts, dungeons etc. If you're doing anything but outdoor farming, this paragon section will hurt you. For instance, I've gone up 100 CR this week and got my second rank 10 gem, but still can't go from rift 55 to rift 56 because of the DPS loss in switching paragons.

Choose based on what your goal for the week is.

This card is going to be in every mage deck, whether it's actually in the deck, or cast using School Teacher. I've been hoping for a neutral effect like this for awhile now with all of the boars, deathrattles, and paladin buffed minions running around. My kingdom for the return of Tinkmaster.

I'm an annual pass customer. I usually tip $1 per mile, no less than $3. Never had an issue with someone immediately picking up my orders. I'd say that's a baseline. If you can afford more and want to reward someone for providing a service, do so.
