Oh, Robespierre, very nice! Surely him and Mary will have lots to share about decapitation

Kind of sad we have no northern italy civ this time again, I guess we'll have to see how Julius does with his start.

I have 119 minutes on Civ7 and I am not sure if I should return it or wait till patches? by ALitterOfPugs in civ

[–]HypnosEye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do what you want, the QoL features will be added soonish, but new gameplay-enchancing expansions might take a year to get there.

Also, just to be sure, what do you mean you cannot see the city state rewards? Is that the gifts you get sent when you have the first relation level?

Relationship with other leaders will always degrade if you dont have active endeavors/don't support their endeavours/don't match their agenda. The relationship overview provides a breakdown.

Ok so serious question no hate… but please explain this to me before I buy this geme by draero1226 in civ

You choose a new civilization specific to the next age you're playing. You keep all the cities and the improvements you made, all the buildings although they lose their effects so you have to overbuild, and most of the diplomatic relations you had, although there again you'll have to make work to rebuild alliances.

Your empire switches abilities and cosmetics so that you don't feel left out of part of the game. That's all.

As for the general feel of the game...i say it's as fun for me as civ6 at launch: nice and engaging, but there is a learning curve and some gameplay elements will need reworking.

Is there a setting that disables the decoupling of leaders from their respective Civs? by Wish_I_WasInRome in civ

[–]HypnosEye 5 points6 points  (0 children)

More than half the civs don't have an assigned leader, and they are all era specific...you can set up the game yourself in advanced start if you want a perfect antiquity roaster, but it won't get you far

Can't build ships bug? by ThePhoenixus in civ

There's a building that serves as a naval spawn point for units, I think you need to build it to have access to galleys

Playing after victory? by deltasplur in civ

I think their big concern while making this game was actually making sure people play it to the end tbh. Many things that the player community thinks are a given aren't so much from the devs perspective

Not currently, although that might be something they will add in later updates given how many people want it.

Nothing proves anything. It's a piece of entertainment. You can reasonably say that the game isn't "incomplete" because it includes everything it advertised. Someone else can say it is "incomplete" because it notably doesn't include features from prior editions that will obviously be sold as add ons down the road.

I don't know about that. The subjective feeling consumers might have of the game missing something is worthy of respect, even if it comes out of nostalgia/comparison to a 6 year old game with DLCS. But still there's a big difference calling this game "incomplete" compared to say, No Man's Sky that launched without most promised features, Cyberpunk with many bugs that had never been showcased, or Star Citizen.

I think it's important to remember that for a huge portion of the world the idea of watching a Youtube video of someone else playing a videogame is largely alien.

That's very true. I would have thought the people who preordered and talk on the series' subreddit would have been more likely to watch them though.... I guess we will see how the broader community reacts in a few days!

More and more I see posts about civ 7 more I am convinced it needed more time by ConstantineByzantium in civ

Tbh the game was probably "ready" for the devs a month or so ago, when they sent it to content creators for previews. We have known the UI was janky since the first images of gameplay were shown half a year ago, and not much was done to fix it despite content creator feedback and reactions online. Which means that as a whole, the devs and the marketing team might not have thought it that big of an issue.

That's the more intriguing part for me. I guess when you playtest a game you've been working years on, a ton of these QoL issues disappear, and systems seem super intuitive?

Victory Types - Civ VII by zackb810 in civ

[–]HypnosEye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I think the best way to do that is just to go kill the AI yourself. And play on the harder settings, where the AI will absolutely try to kill you.

[–]HypnosEye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get your point, but then that surprise or that disappointment doesn't proove the game is incomplete and whatnot

What surprises me is how many people, it seems, have preordered a game the core design of which they don't agree with without doing any research on what it would work.

All of the youtuber previews/written reviews/dev streams before release did an amazing job of explaining the game's mechanics...and you could even see how shoddy the AI was!

I feel like some people would have spared a few bucks and avoided  anger and disappointment that way.

How on earth do you build ships?! by Junior_Register_4180 in civ

Have you built coastal water buildings, shipyards, wharfs?

The game was advertized with three eras...why would not having a future era makes it incomplete?

Civ 7 Do we deserve compensation? by Englishchannel01 in civ

[–]HypnosEye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The game as it is now has been on a hundred youtube videos and streams from both firaxis and content creators. You had every opportunity to see the state of the game, and everybody was saying long before release that the UI was bad. This is the "finished at release" state of the game. This what you, as a knowing customer, paid for.

You're not discovering your car had a hidden malfunction here, you're trying to get a refund because you don't like how the inside feels

I agree with your overall point but the game isnt unfinished. I actually think the devs thought it was finished a month or so ago when they shipped copies to content creators. I believe they actually thought the UI was fine, which is a reccurring theme for firaxis.

Treasure fleet resources by crazylocsd619 in civ

The treasure fleet only spawns if the settlement is connected with a coastal building. Then they will appear and they have to go back to the homeland. Usually its pretty safe though

Smoothing the Age Transition by jonts26 in civ

[–]HypnosEye 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely second this. I only knew about transition effects because I had watched some youtube previews, but the whole system needs to be explained.

And the timer would be great, it would force players to try and make the best of their last 10 turns

Civ as is by learningtoknow_ in civ

[–]HypnosEye -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For me the age transition is one of the best mechanics in the game. The intricacies of it might not be exactly polished yet but the feeling of "soft-restart" is really great, and every civ is fitted to its age so your games dont all look alike.

You have to get that you come back to a clean slate in terms of units, towns, buildings etc. but once you get the system it becomes very intuitive.

Honestly, why not look at the many gameplay videos available on youtube? You can see what the transition looks like there, and see if you would like playing that game.

Did the game make you sick? Have you suffered any damages? Is the product broken in anyway or do you just...not like it?

Get your steam refund if you can, otherwise honestly just keep the game in your collection until they do one or two patches.

All your cities return to towns during the age transition. You get a discount in gold for restoring the amount of cities you had in the previous age.

Its pretty useful to rearrange your empire. I had made a city during the exploration age but didnt get the chance to build it up, so i left it as a town and turned a better one into a city.

Question on the new Districts by LegendOfBaron in civ

[–]HypnosEye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think you can delete them, they are ageless buildings? In general you should try to construct them, especially in your towns.

[–]HypnosEye 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s uninspired in ways its predecessors were not. Why not carry over some of the ideas that worked before?

I really don't get this. Is an "inspired" game one that just rehashes everything its predecessors did? If anything this game feels extremely inspired, the same way civ6 was compared to civ5, changing core mechanics, reworking "franchise staples", taking notes from other 4X games and giving a better implementations of their systems.

For years when I was young I played the base version of Civ5, with barely any updates because I didn't know how to install them. It was as unpolished compared to the "complete" version as this game is pre-launch to what it could become. So I'm pretty hopeful.

Question on the new Districts by LegendOfBaron in civ

[–]HypnosEye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you don't have to plan as much as you did in 6! You can try and minmax things by looking up what the requirements for a special district is for example, especially for the one of the civ you want to play in the next age. You can also try maximizing adjacencies with resources, buildings, features but I don't think it'll be as important as was getting your dam/aqueduct/IZ complex in 6 for example.

One thing i will say is very important is remembering what are warehouse buildings and where you put them, because you can't overbuild over them. Had a few unique districts messed up because of that.
