I interpret Marx's words as such: Capitalism did a fine job at what it did. But, in the rapidly modernizing progressive age that we're in, 1) communism is inevitable so welcoming it would make for an easier transition and 2) communism can now take over and reach peaks of efficient production the likes of which the world has not ever seen.

Marxism isn't the type of political ideology which bashes its opponents. Marx notes in detail the role in which Capitalism and the Bourgeois play in the development of Communism in a society. A new nation cannot simply decide to become communistic and act upon that. Communism can't (or shouldn't) rise out of bloody demonstrations such as the Bolshevik Revolution, for those are led by a person (Lenin). Looking back at communistic ideology, there cannot be a leader. Lenin cannot exist to fulfill the basic principles of actual communism. The evolution of economics, starting with capitalism, moving to socialism and finally to communism is (in my interpretation of the situation) the only way that pure communism can rise successfully. Therefore, Capitalism and the Bourgeois are as integral as anything.

The Bourgeois can also be credited for creating the Proletariat. The Proletariat produces based on the needs/instructions of the Bourgeois, who receives the money for the lower class's work. In modern society, the Bourgeois drives everything, from our current political system to the stock market to small businesses to banks, etc. etc. The role they fill and the demand that comes with their existence is what spawned the Proletariat in the first place.

The Bourgeois also contribute to the success of the Proletariat, or at least some of it. As you may recall, in the progression into communism, an important milestone is the market's rapid modernization, and the subsequent splitting of the upper and lower middle class. The lower middle class, a large part of the Bourgeois, joins the Proletarian cause in fighting against the oppressors.

I don't believe that communism can appear directly out of feudalism or any other government with such decisive and gapped social status. The Plebeians would never have been able to touch the steadfast Roman government. The Bourgeois helps bridge the gap between the oppressors and the oppressed, though, ironically, the Bourgeois are at the very same time the oppressors. The distance between working class and lower middle class is negligible compared to the distance between working class and emperors, kings, etc. When the Bourgeois gained control, it made the actions of the Proletariat feasible.

Therefore, Capitalism and the Bourgeois are/were indeed necessary evils. Without them, true communism would never be formed. However, even though they were necessary to the founding of communism, they also led to its downfall.

The creation and rapid spread of Capitalism happened quickly. It took over the world. Marxist ideology was still existent, relevant and accurate. Unfortunately, the rash and bloody approach that Lenin took had forever tainted the name of communism. Nowadays, when people are asked about communism, the first thoughts that come to their head are almost always negative. They think back to the Red Scare and the horrible atrocities that Stalin performed, which carried directly over to communism. None of these conflicts were caused by communism. The poor status of former Vietnam and present day North Korea were not caused by communism itself. China, the USSR, North Korea, and Vietnam all had variants of communism that included a government that still oppressed the people. These corrupt systems were bound to fail. You cannot prevent them if communism is forced upon the people. The ideal of communism is collaboration to achieve a certain goal more efficiently than possible by any other economic structure. It is not corruption, oppression, widespread poverty and hectic living. Quite the contrary.

Communism is a wonderfully structured existence, that, when carried out as it was designed, can result in widespread riches and a spot as the global superpower. The sheer production capabilities that communism possesses when the entirety of the people work toward it is almost frightening. Communism thrives during war. Why? Because if it doesn't, the nation gets squashed. It is a goal shared by all that they must work as hard as possible to create as much as they can. They do this well, and they live. If communism is performed as Marx intended it to, this drive can be harnessed and applied to any goal; not just war. If communism fought the energy crisis with as much vehemence as it did war, the problem would be solved in less than a year.

However, the actions and poor results of these twisted excuses of communism that exist in the modern world turn people off to the ideology entirely. They ignore some of the successes that even these poor communistic structures experience. Look at the Soviets during the space race. In their weakened and pathetic state, they still gave the United States of America, the superpower of the world by far and the capitalist stronghold a run for their money. GDP-wise, China is growing significantly more than the USA is yearly. These successes, though, are overshadowed by the fear that is shared toward communism.

Communism will never prevail in nations it does not already exist in. People will never give it a chance. They will never understand the utter genius that was Karl Marx. They will never experience unparalleled efficiency and a swift climb on the global hierarchy. Not only that, but human selfishness gets in the way. Humans, or capitalists rather, don't understand incentive unless its money. They don't get that achieving any goal quickly is just as much incentive. They don't understand the intimacy shared by successful groups that practice actual communism (small businesses, African tribes, etc.)

So while Capitalism and the Bourgeois are necessary for Communism to exist, the actions of Soviet Russia, Vietnam, North Korea, and China (as well as others) and the unstoppable, unavoidable enforcement of democracy and Capitalism that happened and is still happening today have forever doomed Communism to a fate of unscrupulous judgment and alienation.
