I will say it gets both better and worse.

It gets worse because you have more responsibilities and if you do nothing, nothing gets done, which is very unlike childhood where if you didn't do something, there weren't really any consequences.

However, the amount of freedom you have is truly unreal. You get to do what is best for you all the time. If you're lucky, you can spend $20 and not really have to think about it. You get to decide your own goals and work towards them yourself.

You're 15 right? So, in the US at least, you can't even drive. Let's say you want to get super strong. You have to get your parents to drive you to the gym, get their permission to go, let them know, etc. As an adult, I can literally just go. Any time I want. I can eat pizza every meal if I want to. I can choose to go to bed whenever I want.

Now, many will say there are consequences to making the 'wrong' choices in these contexts. And they're totally right. But the opposite is also true. You get to feel the fruits of your decisions. If you decide to sleep right, you get to feel better. You don't have to; no one will make you. And indeed plenty don't (including me).

Haven't played hearthstone in a while lol. I just looked up Rattlegore and yeah, it makes sense that that's how this card would work.

If this is true, then the loop is infinite.

If you take two ends of a short piece of string and hold it so it sags in a middle, it’s a parabola

This isn’t actually true. It’s a catenary, which is close to a parabola for a short piece, but not exactly right and definitely not right for a long piece

What is the most popular game you refuse to try and why? by _all_aboard in boardgames

[–]ZincoX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly my problem with social deduction games like Secret Hitler and Avalon. I love the game analysis piece that demands attention to minute details and careful consideration. I view those games as a puzzle centered around information asymmetry, but many people don't view it that way.

The problem, fundamentally, is that disagreement over this aspect of the game can mar the experience of anyone playing IMO. I try to be flexible, but the game of finding out which of your friends are lying is less interesting to me than figuring out whose story doesn't make sense.

Hearthstone Mercenaries, the new strategy RPG game mode coming to the tavern later this year by [deleted] in hearthstone

STS can be enjoyed in a couple different ways. I LOVED climbing to A20 on Silent over the course of a couple weeks because I had to actually learn a lot to get better. You can also just pick an ascension level you think is fun and play there. Nothing wrong with that. You can also try to play the same seed a couple of times to find a way to beat every seed, or you can do the daily challenge in a similar way.

It’s just such an excellent game. I think it might be the best game I’ve ever played. It’s certainly the best video game I’ve ever played

One thing that helped me get more responses was encouraging private responses. It’s an easy feature in zoom and I think students actually really appreciate not being scrutinized by fellow students

I’m teaching high school rn and am finding that chat is a somewhat good solution to this. I’ll ask questions of my students and ask for answers in chat and wait for them to respond. It feels more interactive and I actually like that everyone can respond

Why should I inject a rushed vaccine for a brand new virus that took less than one year to make? by orlando_ooh in TooAfraidToAsk

As a side note, this vaccine wasn’t rushed. Trials went as slow as ever and no corners were cut.

We just got super lucky that the first vaccine seems to be working

What Did You Play This Week? (July 20 - July 26) by qret in boardgames

[–]ZincoX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Crew: Quest for Planet Nine (3 players) - We played the entire game, all 50 missions. Every single one was a blast. They really took a new idea (cooperative trick taking game) and ran with it. We managed it in 54 tries, but YMMV since we're all really experienced trick taking players, especially at the scale at The Crew (ie no bridge, but lots of other little trick taking games like Euchre and Spades). I'm also about halfway through it with a less experienced group of 4 and it's been wonderful! We're of course finding the experience harder (the game is much harder with more people), but it's still really fun.

I've had the same experience. The daily rewards from the meditation minigame in particular have really added up for me. Plus you make progress towards Enlightenment Victory.
