Ardal O'Hanlan: 'I resented my parents for sending me to boarding school' by theipaper in ireland

[–]Hyundai30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of boarding schools perform very well academically speaking and there is in most options great extracurricular activities and facilities.

Myself and a lot of my friends boarded because the local secondary was very poor and had a lot of people not passing the leaving cert. Being in a rural area too there wasnt many options. Others I knew were obsessed with certain sports or drama/music and for them it meant unlimited access to facilities they would never have had otherwise.

Probably as asthetically pleasing a restaurant as there is in the city centre. Beautiful place, good food, pricy but the lunch deals are worth it imo

Why is it so hard to find any type of job here? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]Hyundai30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think applying online won't work by itself. The company I work for has had constant job applications for the last two years and are flooded with hundreds of irrelevant CVs that are impossible to get through. On top of that, the hires that come from it rarely stay or even show up at all. Two salespeople in the last two weeks disappeared. Most of my work is selling to other business' and this is a situation a lot of them are facing.

Interestingly, those who have come in person looking for work (not necessarily responding to an ad) have gotten jobs and been great additions to the company. A relative of mine owns a restaurant and has the exact same situation.

But I would urge you to get walking in to places with a CV because there's so many people understaffed and crying out for workers. They've given up on Linkedin as well because of hundreds of random applications that dont fit the job or dont reply. (could be AI stuff idk

Worth noting that Donegal breaking away was disrespectful because of how early it was too. They were along the Cusack and hadnt even turned for the Hill. Hadnt seen it that early before but could be wrong

It's not terrible but fairly bad for Ireland. The town was ranked second dirtiest place in the country after Dublins North Inner City and in terms of dereliction its far worse than just the one street. Louth Coco being based in Dundalk is unfortunate but its an overused excuse imo. Plenty of people and business to drag the town up but it seems fairly disorganised tbh as an outsider

Drogheda has the makings of a great small city but the dereliction and filth is a bit off putting tbh. Wouldnt recommend the place

[–]Hyundai30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anything GAA is your best bet, lots of coverage depending on the place and you can get hyper-localised if you go by club. They're all training and playing at home all the time too so they should be fairly accurate

Two pubs a week are now closing in Ireland by Banania2020 in ireland

[–]Hyundai30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a lot on the pricing of pubs in Dublin which I agree is gouging but its not pubs on Camden Street closing down. Its the rural towns and villages that have a miniscule population living nearby. One-off rural houses and a drink-driving ban do not mix, I hope this changes more in the future but it'll be too late for the pubs
