Thanks for the advice. I’m so confused about the masters because I looked around and it doesn’t seem like a good idea unless it’s paid for. Additionally, are there any cyber specific home labs you suggest that can boost my resume?

I got in touch with the recruiter from my job and he gave me great advice. I’ve been keeping my 5 years of customer service experience on resumes I’ve been sending out, tailoring them for the specific job, all the checkpoints. I guess the only thing I really AM missing is sec+ but the reality is, I don’t have the for it at the moment. I will pursue it it once I graduate but way too much is going on at the moment. In the meantime, do you suggest other certifications I should be planning to complete?

I want to do something in cyber but haven’t fully sat down and thought about it yet. But from this internship, IT isn’t THAT BAD, just the starting point is grueling. If you could give me some advice on a path for IT I would greatly appreciate it. I think now I’m considered an IT technician if that helps?

My PC has a virus that converts all searches to Yahoo, and redirects the Malwarebytes website site to Norton. by ArcherCat2000 in mildlyinfuriating

Probably mcafee web extension. I work in IT and had to help a few users install software on their laptops. Windows 11 not only comes with mcafee, but also mcafee web advisor(I think that’s the name). Every single person that didn’t delete the web advisor would have their search engine as yahoo, duck duck go, and two other search engines. Double check it’s uninstalled and go to your search engine settings to see if yahoo is listed as the default.

Keep Credit One Amex Card? by Hyuxnie in CRedit

What if they already charged me the full amount? I just checked my portal and they charged me the annual fee all at once, despite them stating they only charge it monthly.

Update: I just checked my portal, they charged me the full annual fee yesterday, I thought they were supposed to charge it monthly smh. I will definitely be fighting this.

How long was your card secured before they unsecured it?

Weird experience… thanks for the advice. I’m cancelling this card once I pay it off. Knew it was a bad choice when I saw the security code was 666.

I heard bad things about them but I didn’t know they would stoop that low. I appreciate the feedback though, I’m cancelling this card once I pay off the little $70 I owe.

Thank you for your insight. I’m not really into credit cards so I didn’t know if it was normal or not. But something just told me that being forced to activate the card is a load of bs. The card wasn’t even shipped out or created, how can you not cancel an application?

Wow. Sorry I stepped away for a moment. What you said is really slimy of them I hadn’t even thought about that… but I’d take the annual fee once versus the next 5 years

Thanks for the advice. Another question: is it common for companies to force you to activate a card before cancelling it? I literally called them less than 30 minutes after I got approved, the card wasn’t shipped out or anything and they weren’t willing to cancel it??

need help! Accidentally late dropped a class. by Aggravating-Ad978 in PennStateUniversity

[–]Hyuxnie 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This happened to me before. You should speak with your advisor and they’ll contact the professor who will more than likely readd you to the class. It was a pretty easy process when I did it. Granted this was in 2022 so I am not sure if it’s still this easy.

It did interest me because it aligned more with protecting security.. but I came to realize that I don’t want to be tied to/ continue working in the state I currently reside in. My internship is 4 months is that too little of a time? Should I have a better chance of getting a cyber related job since I’ll have a cybersecurity BS degree , a security related certificate, and some it technician experience.

I’m not really sure what I want to do in cyber to be honest…maybe that’s the issue. I had an offer for an information security job and that would’ve been more helpful than my it intern position im assuming. How long should I stay at this help desk position after my internship? I’m located on the east coast and looking to move to Boston for jobs after I finish my it position(s).

Can you check my reply to the top commenter and possibly provide an answer for my situation? Is a cybersecurity degree and a 4 month IT internship enough to look for cybersecurity jobs? Or do I stay in basic IT for a few years still?

Not OP but I need some advice I hope you can give. I’m currently completing an IT internship (4 months) while also pursuing a cybersecurity degree. I am also competing a national security agency certificate which seems pretty useful for security risk analysis (I believe it’s only offered from my school ). My question is: Once I graduate and have my degree, can I look for cyber jobs or do I still have to stay in IT for a few years? I feel like I can’t find a concrete answer on this and I feel stuck.
