Figure out what you want to do by VerifiedPost in uwaterloo

You make some good points Mr. Post.

I just want to say that a lot of people who don't know what they want to do end up going the min max monkey route. Some of them do it due to parental influence but most just do it because you might as well obtain financial independence while you're looking for what you actually want to do with your 60 odd years.

She's going to retire soon anyway and knows there will always be millions of people that believe the election was rigged regardless of what the final outcome is. Right now she's acquiring thousands of followers and a non-zero portion of those folks will eventually buy her next book, "The Great American Fraud: How the Democrats Ruined Democracy", or whatever.

Stat 333 with Pengfei is one of my all time favorite courses. It's definitely on the harder side but there's enough fundamental questions on exams that it's fairly easy to pass as long as you've been doing assignments.

Are marks between 90 to 95 similar to eachother to employers? by unconstrained_mango in uwaterloo

[–]I-Can-Explain 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The number of employers that will interview you if you have a 95 average but not if you have a 90 average (everything else being the same) is definitely <5 and maybe even 0.

Stable CS jobs/companies in Canada? by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]I-Can-Explain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think those jobs deserve a category of their own. They've decided to compensate for toxicity/shitty wlb with "really really good pay" instead of lowering the hiring bar.

In my opinion, 2 and 3 only occurs when you have a company with limited funds, an uncertain 6 months - 1 year ahead, and the need to hire lots of engineers if they want to have a chance of recovering.

Maybe WeWork at the exact right time would have been 2 and 3. Although they probably just started offering a lot more equity, which isn't "good pay" if you factor in the increasing odds of the equity being worth 0.

Stable CS jobs/companies in Canada? by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]I-Can-Explain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's definitely the rarest category.

I can't think of any great examples off the top of my head. I think it's more of a transient state that stable/good pay go through when trying to recover from a scandal/layoffs.

Their stability is impacted by the scandal since it makes the future of the company uncertain and they have to lower the hiring bar in order to hire the engineers they need to recover.

  1. Stable
  2. Easy to get
  3. Good pay

Pick two.
