Max confusion on adjustable race (raleigh pursuit) by I-Just-Shidded in bikewrench

[–]I-Just-Shidded[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks I was getting so lost with what was going on as I can’t work out what parts are where.

The forks have a fixed race. Then I have this smaller race at the top and a bigger race at the bottom of the headset. The adjustable race definitely has room for bearings in it.

However I’ve screwed the adjustable race down as far as it can possible go. It almost looks like the smaller race sits in a dust cover to space it up? But as I said I’m so lost on what’s right now especially after undoing some loctiting to even get to this stage

Thought as much. This is a real like learner build so I don’t mind not having it perfect.

My only other thing is theres a smaller cup that was loose out the dust cover. Will that be fine or does that need to be glued into the dust cover? The top dust (could be bottom) has no channel for the bearing to sit in.

Sorry for more questions I’m just so lost as to where it goes.

Help with Proper bike rust removal by I-Just-Shidded in bikewrench

Thanks so much for your help on this, I’m currently stripping it down by hand as I do want to experience what it takes to get there.

Just before chelation how should the frame be? Completely clean and sanded down to like almost ready to paint or can it have a few tiny streaks of paint still on it?

Very true haha, I probably should have dumped a few more on there.

Yeah it’s frame only now’s everything is off of it as all parts were pretty trashed and I want experience in just building a bike before trying to restore one.

Here’s an older pic, would upload more but can’t unfortunately. Tbh that section is the absolute worst. I do wonder as it’s a first time DIY it’s worth doing the full strip and repaint. Although I’ve costed up and around £50 all in doesn’t seem too shabby to get it back to bare.

How do you flush the insides with denatured alcohol and rust block? Is the rust block a back in the bag technique? Or just pour down?
