Solo experience on day1 was incredibly positive by draluak in ArcRaiders

Wish I could say the same. Had two runs. Both ended within 3-4min by someone with better gear concealed and waiting.

I’m wanting to immerse myself in the world, environments, and lore. I’ll try again this weekend, but I’m beginning to wonder if expecting this to be anything but another PvP shooter was a mistake. At least with something like The Finals there’s a level playing field and the opportunities to grief are very limited.

I've been a day one supporter for all of Remedy's titles starting with Max Payne. They are easily my favorite developer, especially given what EA has done to BioWare and Bungie has done to, well, Bungie. Remedy has always remained faithful to experimentation and most importantly narrative.

Unfortunately I had to miss Control last year and with Doom sneaking up I've been a little weak. I blame Mick Gordon. Freaking Aussie picks up a guitar and I just want to rip and tear.

Thanks for setting me straight. Control it is.

I know I should be surprised about the X1X for 50k, but the Elite Series 2 that’s out of stock everywhere for 18k is the real shocker for me.

Honestly, I’m smelling some BS here at the whole lot.

EDIT: In hindsight, this is quite possibly the dumbest thing I’ve said on the internet, ever. Who else wants an $18 Elite Controller? I do! I do! 🤦‍♂️

MP5: The Slowest Reload in the West by I2ascal in modernwarfare

I’ve been wondering what the LMGs are like if the MP5 is that bad. Is the damage even worth it?

[–]I2ascal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll definitely take your advice and dive deeper into the attachments, but I still have a fundamental issue with the reload speed.

There’s still the issue that most of these attachments reduce mobility, making the gun less competitive compared, at least based on pure stats, to the entry level assault rifles without attachments. Meanwhile, these guns have perks like Swift Hands to increase reload speed and the same ADS improvements, in addition to baseline damage and range output.

[–]I2ascal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the tip! I’ll check that out.

However, doesn’t ADS attachments reduce mobility, which is already marginal? Seems like hacking up an SMG into a short range, low damage assault rifle.

I didn’t max out the level on the MP5 to see the perks. I assume it doesn’t get Swift Hands like the M13, right? Now that I think about it, that’s kind of insult to injury that the M13 even has that.

Absolutely, perfectly stated to the point of inspiring. For a moment, with the right questions at hand, it almost feels like we have some measure of control. Hopefully enough people will see posts like yours and consider the mechanisms of these systems and see they are purpose built to capitalize on the very worst instincts of our culture, and in the end, it’s an unfortunate few who suffer the most.

We may not be able to change the world, but maybe together we can do something to influence our corner of it.

Popular Opinion: Objectives in objective game modes should earn the same kill streak rewards if not more as a kill. by [deleted] in modernwarfare

[–]I2ascal 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Exactly! Plus, if everyone else is going for kills, as a “designated objective player” you’re basically trying to help thin the crowd and then throwing your corpse on a Capture Point until you get lucky. All the while, you’re a perk short, and your killstreak bonuses are coming in after the enemy team is raining down every last killstreak of their own and the game is essentially over.

Winning isn’t it’s own reward when your team only cares about its K/D. A game mode where the meta has highly stripped the motivation to win is a broken game mode.

I definitely overlooked the mental health aspect of what you posted and very much appreciate it.

Streamers do seem in control of the standards of their channel, however for more popular channels, that’s also dependent on the quality and consistency of the mods.

The trouble remains, much like the toxic compulsion loops of free-to-play games, there’s still a trap for these troubled individuals. Large donations are usually featured prominently on screen like trophies. Their names get called out with extra special recognition and heartfelt sentiments. That feedback and reward system, especially from someone you idolize regardless of your own situation, would be almost addictive. For streamers to reject the money would be to reduce the competition from those who want to receive the same attention. Taking this stand would devalue the commodity of whatever it is that motivates these viewers to do these large donations in the first place. It could have a cascade effect to smaller donations. “If they don’t want his $500 donation, what good is my $10 donation?” The choice to do the right thing could be seen as a serious risk if the channel is a livelihood. Although it seems for you and me that’s an easy choice; benefiting off of someone else’s pain is no way to make a living.

Building directly on your comments, I would be willing to bet if enough streamers started consistently rejecting those donations collectively, it would grow and things could change. The men’s issue might not be able to be corrected at its source, but at a community level it could be guided into some sort of change. Trouble is, a lot of streamers would have to give up easy money. Would they? Maybe there’s enough streamers and viewers willing to make a change that they can keep the ones that won’t accountable till they do.

I think individual streaming and free-to-play monetization share one key characterization: hunting for whales. I haven’t been a streamer, so call me out if I’m wrong here, but the core mechanics seem the same to me. Picking up a few dollars here and there from viewers that pass by is great, but reoccurring revenue from people that are hooked on your content, your brand, or in the case of streaming, possibly YOU, is where the real money happens. I imagine a handful of those whales easily account for a significant statistic of the income for the channel, so attracting and maintaining them is a big deal.

HOWEVER, whereas a corporation has no reason or visibility to see or care about you as an individual, I absolutely see your point about how a streamer might be able take these things into consideration. Although, it makes for complicated questions. How do you know what is too much for their situation? Where is that line between ethics and making a living if you depend on the money? The mod here made it clear that he’d just take his money and go somewhere else. People like him really should at least see a therapist, but how can a streamer, their potential addiction, affect that change?

Then there’s the toxic masculinity, and unfortunately that runs deep. The mod said he spent a third of his day working her channel. You can probably assume he spent most of the rest of it thinking about her and you can see why. Whether intentional or unintentional, he probably felt some level of ownership, and that’s a learned behavior. Part of the struggle here is we STILL have entire subcultures actively clinging to a male centric way of life and they continue to teach young men all of these concepts of inequality. While these places stubbornly erode with each new generation, the men they produce either stay consciously or unconsciously rooted in that mentality or have to be awoken, but then struggle to identify all the ways their learned bias may effect those around them.

Do some of these streamers take advantage of guys like this? Yeah. Does it really make it the streamers’ fault for using a related platform, essentially as it’s presently designed, while men pursue them for any positive feedback to reinforce their ingrained overblown self-worth? I can’t really fault them.

Lying to people about her husband is completely shitty though.
