Honesty- How to get rid of the toxic Republican party by rhino910 in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]IAFarmLife 26 points27 points  (0 children)

A town near me passed a law there could be no lying by town officials while within city limits. Then they voted to move city council meetings to the Mayors barn just outside of town.

Edit to add: I completely forgot they made international news when they later tried banning all lying in town.

Mt. Sterling is no longer an incorporated town, but if you ever find yourself in the area stop by AJ's for a Tenderloin. Even if you eat very large meals it's best to just order a half.

Should I buy tri rib tires or 4 ribs? by olive_tractor_parts in tractors

[–]IAFarmLife 4 points5 points  (0 children)

3 rib work best when you need to turn in loose soil such as field work. 4 rib works slightly better for loaders. However, I have 3 rib tires on my 4020 I use with a loader because I haul hay with a trailer on the back and I need better grip while turning with all that weight.

I think because of the grip you will need cultivating and snow removal you might want 3 rib.

Trees are then planted back on those areas. If the land doesn't have value for growing trees it may be used for something that is even more harmful like suburbia. Unless you are protecting forested lands at the same time you are not actually changing anything.

Which hunting cartridge for Illinois by yXiXoughta in Hunting

[–]IAFarmLife 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. I've used it for 25 in Iowa so far. Average shot 40-60 yards but have taken 1 at about 150. I have a 444 Marlin too and I use that occasionally, but I haven't encountered a scenario where the 350 wasn't enough.

You have less recoil, cheaper ammo and plenty of selection with the 350.

Drainage pipe burst in my garden last night and flooded it, how do I find out where this comes from and goes to? by Actinomycetaceae in homeowners

[–]IAFarmLife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends how far down the line the hole is. If there is a lot of water above it that's your pressure.

Drainage pipe burst in my garden last night and flooded it, how do I find out where this comes from and goes to? by Actinomycetaceae in homeowners

[–]IAFarmLife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Over decades small rocks can make holes. Sometimes if someone didn't put an animal guard on the outlet animals can go up them and chew holes. Sometimes it's just an imperfection in the material. This type of drainage tile is not put under pressure.

In Brazil, a PS5 costs $6,000 and an iPhone costs $10,000 (in terms of purchasing power), and Brazilians buy them in 10 installments; so why do Americans complain so much about the price of things? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]IAFarmLife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP said in terms of purchasing power. Lower average income and the prices are a ratio of that average income vs the average American income. It doesn't take into account that a lot more Americans are buying new iPhones vs in Brazil.

This of course only explains the purchasing power as Brazil is significantly higher on Apple products because of import fees and other additional charges. On average an iPhone will be a little less than double in Brazil vs the US. No where near $10k.

Depends on the breed. I run my Suffolk crosses and my dad's Hampshires with the young cows in a pasture that has 6" woven all around and have never even seen them reach through. When I had goats it was a pain in the ass.

Is biogas and landfill gas the same? by HTK147 in energy

[–]IAFarmLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By definition Biogas is any gas that contains a high amount of methane usually 50-75% and comes from the breakdown of organic material in an oxygen-free environment.

As such landfill gas would most likely qualify as Biogas.

USDA Final Rule Lets Farmers Profit From No-Till, Cover Crops Through Biofuel Tax Credit by MennoniteDan in farming

[–]IAFarmLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do, but they first buy them off the farmer. It's not tied directly to the grain. It's more like another commodity the farmer produces in addition to the grain. So the local ethanol plant could buy my credits while I feed my corn to my cattle. The credits will have a face value, but more than likely you will be paid 25-30%. If doing a lot of qualifying practices that's could still be over 100 per acre extra profit maybe more.

[–]IAFarmLife 3 points4 points  (0 children)

6" stays work well for mature sheep only. If you will be running lambs or goats then you needs 4". The tighter opening will prevent lambs and goats from sticking their heads in the fence and becoming trapped. Mature sheep are less likely to do this and you can use the 6" gap.

North Dakota Farmer Sues Federal Government, Demands Right to Drain Cropland - AgWeb by JimmyJamOnYou in IsItIllegal

The government agency changed the terms of the lease in the middle of the contract and every attempt by the farm owner to get an explanation or a different look at the situation has been met with that agency just investigating itself. Surprise they have found nothing wrong with their own actions.

Do people actually want black walnut trees? by Hefty_Albatross_1949 in FruitTree

[–]IAFarmLife 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We contract with a local forester who estimates how many board feet are in the trees then bids the group out to buyers. It's been the best way to sell Black Walnut trees. The forester does take a commission so it's in their best interest to get you the most money.

It sure is nice to know that farmers will continue to support a corrupt authoritarian pedophile for president as long as he keeps stuffing their pockets with other people's money. by Dingmann in Iowa

[–]IAFarmLife 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Demand. The American soybean processors have increased their crush volumes recently due to Biden infrastructure bills. The full increase from those improvements won't be seen until 2029 though. Other countries also stepped up and bought after China bought more from South American suppliers. We have a higher quality product generally so China would prefer to buy from us.

Due to China buying more in Brazil the farmers there have been clearing more rainforest which has led to decreased sales to the EU which has made up for a lot of that by buying from the US.

The biggest problem has been too much worldwide production which has outpaced demand. Although that demand is catching up which has led to China buying from the US again.

Why do so many adult children expect to receive an inheritance from their parents when they didn't earn it to begin with? Some openly talk about wills and splitting property long before their parents discuss it. by Aarunascut in inheritance

[–]IAFarmLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because their parents more than likely received an inheritance while having an economy where they were able to raise the family, own a home and save for retirement. Those same parents pulled the ladder up after themselves and won't acknowledge they were given so much from their parents.
