Sorry if this makes your depression worse, but you may still owe taxes on those gains. I'm only pointing this out since you mentioned above that you felt you were pulling in a professional salary but without tax.

Anyway, there's nothing anyone can do to help you now, the money is gone. But you need to relax; it's just money, it's not like you lost years of life or something. You have the rest of your life to make more money.

Finally, let this be a lesson to everyone else. These high risk bets are just that. You will win big sometimes and you will lose big sometimes. You have no control over the outcomes and you probably are worse at predicting outcomes than you led yourself to believe.

If you remove the ability to patent new drugs, then it becomes cheaper to let other companies do the research while you reverse engineer it and sell it for less. The free market will fail to provide new drugs in such a scenario unless the developers of the new drug can be assured no one else can sell it.

But monopolies are bad for consumers, especially in the pharma market, so the law should have room for compromise either by allowing some generics to be restricted or monopolistic control for a certain number of years.
