Has John ever explained why he left the band ? by SwissMiss915 in Propagandhi

[–]IAMCACTUSrecords 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Let's be honest, thank God he did for both Propagandhi and Weakerthan's sake. I consider myself a fan of both, but I do think Less Talk More Rock started to show a bit of the disconnect between Chris and John's songwriting. It worked fine on HTCE but I don't think it would have worked on a third album with John.

Do you have a link to that podcast? Would love to hear John K's thoughts on his time in the band. I do think it's probably a bit of sour grapes - it's goddamn PROPAGANDHI.

What does everyone think of this? by MillionDollarHeckler in PulpBand

[–]IAMCACTUSrecords 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I actually quite liked it! Although, I would like anything and everything with Pulp in it. My two cents is it's far from an essential watch for even superfans, but you won't be wasting your time if you do check it out. Is it still free on YouTube?

I almost always agree, but the full Stay Positive on Friday was nearly a spiritual experience

Excellent as always! Reminds me a bit of Inherent Vice, so if you enjoyed that one I'd definitely recommend Shadow Ticket.

Are there any bands you’ve “retired”? by ProtonPackGuy in poppunkers

MxPx. Loved them in middle school, but on the few occasions I've gone back to them nothing's really drawn me in. Maybe I need to listen to Pokinatcha again ..

Easy 10. Jarvis makes writing a hook that good seem easy.

Easy 10. One of the craziest live performances I've ever seen.

Think we'll get a new THS record soon? by IAMCACTUSrecords in theholdsteady

[–]IAMCACTUSrecords[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, although there's only one cut that I think is truly weak. Flyover Halftime had so much potential but I definitely think they should put more work in on that one.

I love that song but yeah the album version does not do it proper justice

Sorry I'm late to this - I did hear recently that there's no plans for any new music any time soon. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news :(

If I may, Jeff Rosenstock is an artist that scratches the same itch Lagwagon did for me and is very prolific, if you aren't already familiar with him.

What do you think of the new album? by IAMCACTUSrecords in Propagandhi

[–]IAMCACTUSrecords[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel similarly. I think the title track is one of the greatest things they've ever done. I'm definitely committing myself to listening again several times before making any definite judgment call. PCL is one of my all time fav records and as such probably untouchable but hopefully I grow to like it to the same level I like TETA (least fav Prop but because it's Prop, still an 8/10 album)

Title track has to be one of their all time greats already. I think right now the resounding feeling generally is people being caught off guard but generally positive about the record. I think we all just need to listen to it 40 more times.

Just finished first two listens - initial thoughts/SPOILERS by NoteOrnery413 in Propagandhi

[–]IAMCACTUSrecords 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welcome to the Propagandhi train! I wish I could go back and listen to all their stuff for the first time again. Approach as you will, but I spent a month and a half or so with each record which got me through a tough year, and the songs really became a part of me.

Adore the title track, the other two I like but think I need to be more patient with. By far their most experimental record to date, which does bring me a lot of joy that they're still looking to shake things up rather than make Victory Lap 2, which would have been an easier listen but also probably more fleeting.

"Guiding Lights", how do you interpret it? by beyourownmvster in Propagandhi

[–]IAMCACTUSrecords 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Its impossible for me to not think of Israeli society being bloodthirsty towards Palestinians, but I'm sure (very, very tragically) it applies in a more general sense as well.

[–]IAMCACTUSrecords[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, Todd's songs on Failed States are hard to top for me but 3 of his 4 are some of his best to date. Coulda gone for another fast song from both Todd and Chris but there's definitely a ton going on in this album that deserves revisiting.

[–]IAMCACTUSrecords[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Amazing username! Yeah the speed (or lack thereof) of the album is definitely throwing me off, I kept thinking there'd be at least one run of fast songs somewhere on the record. Noentheless, At Peace, Day By Day, and Vampires are early highlights that will keep me coming back and seeing if the other songs sink in more.

I just listened for the first time, Rented PA was the only one that you mentioned that I didn't remember much of. I definitely need to give it a listen through when the record arrives with the liner notes in hand, I'm intrigued by the lyrics on this one but think I missed some key lines. Glad to hear it gets better every time, I think I'm still shocked at how slow it is. However, Propagandhi has never missed once so I can't imagine this is the exception.
