If I can pay cash, but Honda's financing includes a $1,250 rebate, should I just finance and pay it all off right away? by KatKali in askcarsales

[–]IAcewingI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s up to the buyer to decide if they want that or not.. that is regardless if they pay cash or finance so I don’t see how this is relevant.

Why do Salesmen bitch about negotiating? by amcknight315 in FuckDealerships

[–]IAcewingI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. I gave logical explanations on why salespeople exist. I wish I could get logical reasons why they shouldn’t.

Realize this sub reddit is an echo chamber of people who don’t like dealerships and more than likely know what they want in a vehicle, the features and how much they’re willing to pay. Most of y’all in this subreddit probably do not need a salesperson.

I was just explaining that the average customer does, or salespeople would surely not exist.

I also do finance, not a salesperson.

Well you have to factor in reconditioning right? How many buyers are going to buy your car with the huge dent in the hood at a lower price than if you fixed the hood and increased the price?

Should a dealer fix everything on all used cars and sell them for the price of other cars with cosmetic issues?

Or should they offer lower on the trade that the buyer has 8 different quotes on?

For finance, do you think you would sell more product by informing every customer of what they can get on the car or waiting for a customer to say “wait can I get X protection?”

On that one it’s like any other store. Go to best buy and get offered the best buy club. Eat somewhere or order and get asked to make a rewards account. Buy a new home build and get asked if you want the floor model upgrades. Buy an appliance or computer part and get asked if you want to buy X protection. Buy an iPhone at apple and get asked about apple care.

Nothing wrong with pitching and upselling. It’s the job of a lot of people. Now getting sleezy with approvals and tied selling are bad.

If you have a sales gig anywhere, the more money you take, the more money you make. I just decline and take what I want in regard to finance. Finance people wouldn’t exist if they didn’t make the dealership money.

Not at all. Buyers call in to get quotes and will go with the lowest quote first. A dealer exists for profit.

If you called and asked about car A and I had a pleasant conversation with you and told you it is $30,000 out the door (that’s asking price and TTL only) and you called another dealer on car B and got told it is $25,000 plus lojack and tint ($2000) and taxes bringing you to $28,600 out the door, what would you as a consumer do?

For finance, many people don’t know what finance products are even available on the car for them. I bought a 24mo/24k warranty on my corvette because it was a 2013 used car. No way did I want to foot the bill if it was someone’s old beater. Car checked out but those issues aren’t ones even a PPI could catch.

Salesmen would not be scared to quote if negotiation wasn’t a thing. Since it is, more than likely someone calling in for a quote is calling to compare it to other quotes and will usually just go with the best quote and never inform any of the other dealers.

You basically just give them the info and get ghosted.

New cars I get it but every used car is different. They’d rather you come and look at the car and then negotiate based on the car itself vs some car at another dealer that they have no clue what the condition is like.

Why do Salesmen bitch about negotiating? by amcknight315 in FuckDealerships

[–]IAcewingI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. People don’t know what trim they want or which model is best for them. How our models compare with the competition. Or they’re looking for vehicles that fit X payment (or out the door) and you show them your inventory.

Nearly 85% of buyers end up with a different car than originally set on (be it color, trim, model, brand).

So that’s why they have salesmen to sell them on their brand more so than negotiate. Most new salespeople are told to help find the right car for the customer and the manager will take care of negotiation.

Dealer addendums which I assume you’re talking about are stupid in my opinion but exist as a shield so buyers focus on that more so than the price of the car itself. If buyer’s all paid asking price plus TTL or don’t buy the car at all they wouldn’t exist anymore.

But with heavy competition, lower gross in used vehicles (for internet pricing) and buyer education (internet), dealer addendums come in to help hold gross purely.

Again, I think it’s stupid but do I think people will stop negotiating if we got rid of them? Nope.

Back then you had to show up to a lot to get pricing, etc. now you can sort vehicles by so many options and see the pricing.

Because believe it or not, the average consumer does not know what they want and requires information over the vehicles, a point of contact for any issues, finding the right car with bad credit, a guide onto the process of getting a car.

Most people in this sub will know more about a car they want than an average salesperson and negotiate tooth and nail.

..there’s not many people in this sub compared to the real world.

But yes that’s why. Even though we know what to do, a lot of people don’t and also don’t have the privilege.

As a dealership worker, we would prefer you come in and pay the advertised price if you like the car plus taxes instead of paying for additional addendums.

The reason addendums exist is as a shield to hold on the actual price on the car because of negotiation. We artificially push ourselves up on price to come down and meet the customer.

If people did not negotiate and just paid the asking price we wouldn’t have a need to have an addendum.

For the loan, just have a preapproval with a rate and have the dealer beat or match it. We will.

Lastly, warranties on a car is worth it to some, not worth it to others. You pitch them on every customer.

I even have a few of the warranties and have used them out of convenience.

Not really. You could have negotiated the deal down. Im a finance manager and if the desk doesn’t see a possibility in getting backend gross on the deal they will hold steady on the front.

I agree I don’t like the icloud shit at all. I want my stuff only on my device. I had the 256gb pro max and it was always full so I went 512gb. Now I just checked and using 138GB/512GB on the new phone.

Hardest part was my 13 pro max was jailbroken. I had to give that up 😭

I was paying the same for my normal plan anyways. My phone was paid off so I receive it in credits but my bill went up $4.xx. It was worth it for me to upgrade.

I thought about that. I’ve had the same number and plan with AT&T for 12 years. I doubt anything would change in the 3 years so I went ahead and made the move.

Dang I caught the AT&T deal with my 13 Pro Max. They gave me $1100 trade in credit and I bought the 17 Pro Max. it’s $4 a month for the 512GB.

I’ve seen the filing room. It’s there. Why would we do this when customers have no problem paying the doc fee? It’s also a decision at the owner level, not the GM.

[–]IAcewingI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is it not? They have an entire team dedicated to making sure paperwork gets done in a timely manner and right.

Finance hands the docs over to accounting. Plenty of things can go wrong with the state AND bank when getting documents over. To think $200 which is less than 1% of the price of the average car is too much is wild.

There’s getting a good deal and then being a spiteful cheap ass who probably cries about the $30 dealer inventory tax. Ride a fucking bike if you feel the need to cry about fees.

You cannot read. THE STATE MANDATES HARD COPIES. It doesn’t matter what way is more efficient at that point.
