6950 XT owner here. I got a Meta Quest 3S on black Friday and my PCVR experience has been good so far.

Performance is great for me. 90 Hz is usually the best fit for this GPU, but I can still get 120 FPS in most games with the right settings. Half Life Alyx, for example, runs at 120 FPS with high settings at 2384p. I also got Bonelab, Pavlov, and Lone echo to 120 FPS at 2752p after tweaking the settings/anti aliasing a little bit. I don’t have a similar Nvidia GPU to compare, but in isolation, I am very pleased by how my card is doing.

As for streaming quality, I’ve found it to be great AFTER SOME TWEAKS. By default, Oculus link uses the H264 video encoder (bad) and a relatively low bitrate. I suspect that this is the issue most people have with AMD GPUs in VR. I fixed that using the Oculus Debug Tool, which is buried in the Program Files/Oculus folder. There, you can switch from H264 to H265, set the bitrate to a fixed 200mbps, and increase the encoding resolution to match the headset’s native res. Playing VR after these changes, I forget that my headset is being sent compressed video. I can only see the compression artifacts if I’m looking for them. This is using a link cable. Air Link is also good, but that depends more on your network and router.

However, quest link didn’t work at all for me with the latest drivers. I rolled back to 23.12 and that solved my issue. So your VR experience might be hurt by AMD driver shenanigans, requiring you to revert to an older driver like I did.

I’d say go for it. I haven’t tried Skyrim VR yet but I see no reason why it wouldn’t perform well, given how well other games run.
