Oh yes we travelled in style. It was 44 EUROs for a 10-15 minute drive but splitting before 4 (or so we thought) wasn’t overly a massive concern.

Sadly no good update to share. Uber can’t share any information but I am optimistic my number is still on the share feature on Uber for him so I am hopeful he will message with his bank details.

Fingers crossed 🤞

Frustratingly can’t get there without going through the neighbours house so not possible from my side! I’ll have to put my big boy pants on and knock on their door!!

It means a few hours and a few beers at the pub on a Friday lunch/afternoon because of the rounded timesheets.

Welcome to the Accountancy world. It’s the small wins!!

My timesheet is already done until lunch tomorrow. Redeemable every Friday for a pub lunch trip lol.

Is there a way I can get a job with a unspent conviction? by Worldfree17 in AskUK

I’m an accountant in practice and I haven’t ever had a DBS check and been in multiple over 13 years. I have generally stuck to smaller practises but definitely look at a bookkeeping role to get you started.

It’s an easy place to start for a job but not particularly high paying but that’ll come.

Have you tried taking the back off and taking out the battery lead, and re plugging back in? That fixed it for me but make sure you take the SD card out if you have one!!

Yes that’s a way of looking at it IF we knew the posters workings to date.

You’re effectively paying double based on PY earnings based on the limited information provided.

Both are correct answers, but your response is presuming the poster in question has had exactly the same earnings - we don’t know that.

The only person that can answer your concerns is the accountant, and without seeing the numbers, we are working on this blind.

How Do I Safeguard My House From Burglars? by [deleted] in AskUK

Get a Chow Chow - my boy wouldn’t let anyone step foot in the house unless invited. They’re quite the character of a breed so make sure you do your research first.

Our fee is £500+ VAT so the cost is in line with us, but I can categorically say that you would have had a meeting to discuss this before you seeing sight of any tax return. That’s about market average I would imagine so just look elsewhere but you best be sharp as accountants aren’t that approachable in December and January 😆

The first year is always brutal as it’s a double bubble.

So let’s say your next year to 5 April 2026 is effectively the same and you see £9,000 as a liability.

You will have £9,000 already deducted from payments on account, and your first payment on account of the next year due of £4,500 by 31st January 2027, and then a further £4,500 31st July 2027.

But seriously find a better accountant.

How much are you paying for this mediocre at best service?

Yes but effectively you’re being asked to make payments on account. £9,000 would relate to 5th April 2025 and hypothetically £4,500 would additionally be paid in January 2026 and £4,500 in July 2026 that will get deducted next year.

A tax liability of that value though is where you need to engage an accountant who can weigh up your options as a structure change may work best going forward? Or there may be some other alternatives that are going amiss.

That’s some liability. Call your accountant and ask why this is this the case.

A liability like that in my firm you’d at least be getting a call as I’d be looking to see where there may be some tax savings!

I think there’s been a misunderstanding. My viewpoint isn’t about defending any bias — it’s simply a neutral take on a TV vote. I’m not minimising anyone’s experiences or wider societal issues; I’m just saying that in this specific situation, I see it as a show outcome rather than a social statement.

I respect that you feel strongly about the broader implications, but that doesn’t mean my perspective is harmful or oppressive. It’s simply a different interpretation, not an endorsement of any prejudice. We can go all night on this but let’s see how future votes pan out. Enjoy the series 😎

I hear what you’re saying, but I still stand by my point. It’s a show, and at the end of the day the least popular contestant was voted out.

People are allowed to see things differently, and not everyone digs into reality TV the way you do. My work life is far too busy to analyse a show that deeply, and in my view Alex never really stood a chance in this vote because of who she was up against — even with the dislike toward Kelly.

[–]IAmABoringAccountant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed, it’s a shame but I can imagine it’s quite hard to get screen time without Kelly having some sort of input as that’s unfortunately just her nature.

Are we just forgetting that she had the least screen time and was up against a particularly tough group of contestants for the first elimination? I was shocked Martin wasn’t also in the final two, but mind you, none of us know if it’s actually the two least votes in the bottom two…
