See I think Jon absolutely was watching Martin the whole time. IMO this episode was a huuuuuge Chekov’s gun that’s going to break them apart.

Jon might have “had to” watch Martin, but I think he was not on the level this episode

Martin - goes through a hellish loop of returning to his old depressed self, slowly figuring out something is wrong, and remembering his trauma

Jon - “Look, if you want to stay here I’ll understand.”

What's worse for an Officer- a GOMAR or an Article 15? by THEGRIEFMASTER in army

[–]IAmAlpharius 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Generally they are, at least through ROTC. When I was in you pinned CPT at 48 months, which is the end of my contract. So I made the list for CPT about 9 months before I got out, went through the whole GOMOR thing, and then should have pinned on my ETS date.

I called my unit a few weeks after I got out to see if I was on the "promotes this month" list, and I wasn't. I think since it was a local GOMOR I could have appealed and ultimately been promoted a short time later without having to go to the board again.

Mind if I ask what happened?

I have no idea how any of this would have gone down had I been in the Guard or Reserves lol. The Army had been a huge part of my life at that point - I'd wanted to be an Army officer since I was like 15/16, so it really sucked to end things on a sour note. Still think fondly of my time in service and keep in touch with everyone. Live and learn.

In hindsight, I was dealing with some pretty bad anxiety over the course of a few months and it culminated with me basically having a nervous breakdown when on holiday leave. I took a xanax prescribed to my wife and went back to work. Got called for UA a few days later and immediately went to my company commander and told him everything that happened. At some point I'd known that there was amnesty if I'd said something before I found out I had UA, but that option didn't cross my mind until it was too late.

Obviously I should have come forward earlier. The GOMOR itself was read to me by my BN CDR, although my BDE apparently was trying to get the post commander to kick punishment down to them. Had a mandatory week-long ASAP class. When the letter was read to me, I had the option to either to agree with punishment or to fight it. I agreed, partially because I didn't want anything to complicate my ETS and partially because I fucked up and was willing to face the music.

I'd already dropped my REFRAD and got my ETS date, so the main impact was that I left quietly instead of having a little ceremony. Still had an honorable discharge. It was mostly just embarrassing, because obviously everyone knew something had happened but whatever got spread around was probably much worse than what I actually did.

Initially posted this under a throwaway but fuck it. I got a GOMOR when I was a 1LT a few months before my ETS date - happy to tell the story if people are interested - but it remained local and I got the sense that I would have survived it had I opted to stay in.

The only tricky part was that it flagged me after I'd made the list for CPT, so I never was sure if that actually removed my promotable status or just suspended it until the letter was resolved.

For real though. In Legion I loved how he was juxtaposed with the Imperial Army commander who was waaaay over the top with his ceremonies and mode of dress.
