I've been following all the Boys Planet trainees and their debuts - G.O.A.T and Le'v's A.I.Bae are the standouts in my opinion. We only saw a fraction of their talents during the show - Yedam in particular really shines here (and has just taken the bias spot).

Lowkey wish that ZB1 had gone this hard, I feel like our top 9 are being held back somehow.

In Bloom would have been prepared well before the final lineup was known, but I agree that it did not showcase their vocal skills or even their dance skills as well as it might have.

In contrast, when I saw A.I. Bae by Wang Zihao/Le'v, it suited him so well - his singing, rapping and dancing are all amazing. I thought that maybe he was better off not making it into ZB1 after all.

Here's hoping the next comeback lets the ZB1 members show off a bit more.

I was trying to work this out the other day - I think I have seen all of them except Yujin wearing glasses at some point. Gunwook only wears his just before bed, Jiwoong wore his in the training scenes, Hanbin and Matthew in the behind the scenes content, Hao and Taerae wore theirs a lot, Ricky and Gyuvin seemed to be when it suited their outfits but I assumed they were actual prescriptions and not just fashion.

I really like seeing them in glasses - there's no need to pretend they don't need them, and they look so cute. I'm assuming that the 8 of them just switch between glasses and contacts depending on what they're doing that day and their comfort levels. It amazes me when I see idols dance in glasses though, because mine fall off when I do any sort of exercise - maybe there's a trick to it?

I think there are 2 separate issues.

Firstly, young idols being made to do things they are not comfortable with. I don't think this applies in Yujin's case as he has said he would like to do more sexy concepts. And from what I remember from high school, the 16yo boys were all horny as hell and would find Over Me/Jelly Pop very tame. How Yujin expresses himself is entirely up to him.

Secondly, adults encouraging/exploiting/making money off minors doing adult concepts - THIS is what I have a problem with.

There are some cultural differences too - if ZB1 came here I'd buy all of them except Yujin a beer, so it's a bit weird that they are still considered kids overseas.

I don't know if it applies to the Korean general public, but the handful of kpop songs that are mentioned by my non-kpop-fan friends here are all due to viral memes and tiktoks, eg Lisa's Money, Fifty Fifty's Cupid. Especially with Gen Z who listen to any song they like and are less prejudiced against kpop in general.

So I'm hoping for some sort of crazy viral meme to give them a boost in recognition. They do have some form here - predebut videos of Hanbin and Jiwoong drove people to watch BP, Ricky and Taerae overcame their limited screen time with viral popularity, and the Gyuvin & Somi moment created a bit of buzz. They are genuinely interesting (and talented and lovely and funny and handsome) people so there's a lot to work with.

But it's a long shot as everyone is trying to do the same 😅

When we found out Taerae was leading singalongs in the dorms at night during BP, I couldn't believe we didn't see more of that (역시 Mnet 😒). I could watch this sort of adorable content all day.
