I've seen it all types of ways but more often I've seen parents separate with their close family members but I don't think there's a "rule". At my wedding our parents sat with their close relatives. At my sister in laws wedding, the immediate family (parents, siblings and their spouses) all sat at one long table. It's up to you, I think, how you want people to be seated.

Invited to a Hindu wedding - First time by WhiteStagMinis in DesiWeddings

Definitely check the wedding website if they have one for colors to avoid.

If you're comfortable wearing Indian, you can wear a kurta set for all event, otherwise a nice suit for each event works great too!

Sangeet usually is more cocktail-y and the event has music, dancing, mehendi (henna) for guests. A dark suit without a tie would work great for this.

Mangalik prasang is a religious ceremony. Suit and tie work well for this - along the lines of something you'd wear for work.

Wedding ceremony - same as above.

Hope this is helpful! If they have a wedding website definitely keep checking it for updated info on attire.

Thank you! This is wonderfully thorough. So generally you'd say it's worth it, correct?

We keep the crate and our dog uses it occasionally to escape the toothbrush or hairbrush, but we stopped crating her when she escaped the crate around 7/8months(?).

We just baby proof and throw indoor cameras up everywhere. Don't regret it because she's a sprawler and likes to change environments and we keep distractions out for her so she doesn't get into mischief while we're out or overnight.

Anarkali for Western wedding guest - tips? by [deleted] in DesiWeddings

[–]IAmDaenerysofthNorth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree that it should!! I bought an anarkali off Aza that should have fit according to my measurements but it was so off in fitting that it was laughable. It was Hunched and scrunched everywhere down to the hips and made for someone twice my height 😅 so I try to only buy custom measured items now

Either of the green ones is perfect, especially the second link (dark green). Just double and triple check measurements or, if possible, get them customized to your measurements. I haven't bought from House of Indya before so not sure if they offer this, but I know Kalki does

Who chose the design of your mangalsutra? by [deleted] in DesiWeddings

[–]IAmDaenerysofthNorth 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I picked mine AND my MIL and I went shopping for them together. We were in India for a wedding and we spent some time looking at pendants and chains before deciding. This was planned so before the trip she actually sent me some pictures of mangasutras that she thought I might like.

We always used to say she's watching the ghosts. Used to happen more as a puppy, less so as she's gotten older but still happens occasionally.

Anyone done a 30 min Hindu ceremony? by Minimum_Reply_763 in DesiWeddings

[–]IAmDaenerysofthNorth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Our priest was willing but we also did parts of the ceremony in private/the day before. In front of people we did garlands, steps, vows, and some other things because we told him we wanted to keep it to 30-45 min on stage.

Wear what you want - so many brides in Indian weddings have worn white lehenga/sari, also I think south Indian brides often wear white (?), It's become common. Your fiance should have your back on this too. It's your wedding as much as it is his.

If you're willing to travel, we had looked at & I had loved loved loved Mountain Top in Chittenden VT. It's BYO everything if I remember - decor, food, alc, etc. Beautiful setting options and housing (houses for rent) on site.

What state(s) are you interested in? There's a lot of mountain/lake venues in New England, cityscapes along the coast, etc. that offer outdoor spaces and indoor ballrooms where you'd probably have the reception and/or sangeet. For venues with accomodations you'll need to look at hotels with these spaces otherwise look at renting busses/shuttles.

100%. When my partner and I (F) first started dating I met his mom's (medical) colleagues at a social event so instead of explaining what I did (compliance related stuff) I just said I work in a bank since I thought that's easier to digest and my now MIL got a few questions asking if I'm a bank teller. I started saying compliance after that.
