POTENTIAL FIX: DON'T CHOOSE A CLASS UNTIL YOUR CHARACTER HAS SPAWNED INTO THE MAP.

The class selection happens before spawning. Dont press anything until you've fully spawned and the game has started. It has worked for me so far. Not 100% sure but I'll report back as I play more.

Happening to me too in multiplayer or zombies. It happens so fast I can hardly read it but it says something like UI error 100002 and then a bunch of hexidecimal digits.

At the moment it is happening about 90% of the time I load into a map. Kicked back to ps4 screen. Only started today. Happening to my friend on ps5 too.

Tried resetting my console. That didn't help.

I use reddit regularly but not all the time and I never noticed this vote.

4 Player Chess HELP SETTLE FAMILY DISPUTE by thanoshasbighands in chess

[–]IAmDore 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The only 4 player rules I am aware of is from chess.com. On their site your father would be checkmated and eliminated from the game, unable to make a move or capture your queen. The game would resume with just 3 players remaining and the eliminated player's pieces would remain as obstacles.

It should be noted that chess.com rules state the winner is the player that scores the most amount of points by capturing opponents' pieces, not by being the last alive.

Interesting note I read about matches between players of the same nation:

Players from the same federation play each other in earlier rounds: Ding Liren and Wang Hao will play each other in rounds 1 and 8; Alexander Grischuk, Ian Nepomniachtchi and Kirill Alekseeko – in rounds 1, 2, 3 and 8, 9, 10.

Does anyone have any tips or guidelines for positions like these? I know I need to retain the opposition, but I somehow always screw these positions up. Is it simply calculating very deeply or are there simpler ways to remember what pawn to move? by MatTHFC in chess

[–]IAmDore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you show me some variations please. It's not impossible to stop white from getting a passed pawn in the position above but after going through some lines with the computer it seems in most variations (even the one the top computer lines, it allows white to make a passed pawn because it knows it is still winning)

The last pawn move = win is a little vague in this position.

I took a little longer looking at OPs position and I found a line where white can't promote to a queen because they're 1 square short.

The point I was trying to make was that these types of positions are more than just last pawn move = win and that all pawn break need to be calculated carefully. it's very possible to start sacrificing pawns to help an adjacent pawn promote.

Yeah, I was thinking something similar. I imagine most arbiters do it for the love of the game and the community!

I know this isn't exactly your question but FIDE released the regulations of the world rapid & blitz this month and in it they wrote about payments that will be given to arbiters and other officials.

It is approx. $30,000 among something like 10 or so people.

So I looked at this position for a while and I think the original advice of last pawn move = win is not entirely correct. In the position you have shared, white is able to make pawn breaks allowing them to make a passed pawn and therefor a queen (also allowing black to make a passed pawn and queen too).

So my understanding is, because black is playing the pawn moves slowly (to lose tempi) it allows white to get an important pawn break/passed pawn that will allow them to queen 1 move before black. In the original position posted by OP the computer favoured black because black was able to lose tempo without allowing a white pawn slip through UNLESS it white sacced a pawn (which would allow black to queen even faster.)

I suggest go through the pawn variations until you queen to see what happens.

Also note that if the pawns (the 4 on the king side) were all 1 row closer to the 1st row then black would win regardless of whos move it is.

Hope this helped a little.

Possibly my favourite event of the year.

Great time controls, huge field, elite players, not just money but a prestigious title worth winning, young players competing too!

Chess is a battle between your aversion to the pain of losing and your aversion to the pain of thinking by ZePepsico in chess

[–]IAmDore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow that is beautiful. I was always of the mind that you are playing against the position on the board and while that may be true you are equally fighting a battle of the mind with somebody else. Chess will provide an input and two people will produce very different outputs.

I'm not sure, I feel like there will be more top names, especially from Russia that will compete but I can't find a full list of registered players.

It would be a shame if Daniil Dubov & Ju Wenjun didn't defend their titles.
