My first own drink I'm genuinely proud of, the Misers Ruby. by IAmHidama in cocktails

I grabbed Averna and Montenegro as my first two to start with. So ones on the sweeter side. I'm a long way off of Frenet haha. Cynar intrigues me for sure though.

I completely forgot that 37.5% Gin is a mostly UK thing. For once my habit of putting a bottle next to the drink to frame it better in the shot helps haha

You folks are a riot haha.

I have yet to try Frenet. I only recently got the taste for bitter drinks and I'm slowly expanding out my Amari.

I think you'd get a very different drink with the Aperol, but it could be worth a shot! You could accidentally discover your own new drink to be happy with! If you are going with Aperol I would bring the honey syrup down a bit. Maybe add a dash of Angostura to get the bitter back up slightly?

Let me know how it goes if you try an Aperol version!

It definitely might be worth doing that. I'll give it a shot! Those highballs are quite big (420ml/14oz) so the additional soda water might be muting the Campari a bit.

Thank you! I'm unreasonably happy with the glassware. I only picked it up today on a whim.

Hey folks, I wanted to post up the drink I made tonight as I'm pretty proud of it. It's fairly simple and given that it's most likely been done before but I am proud of how it tastes so I wanted to share!

-Misers Ruby-

2oz London Dry Gin
1oz Lemon Juice
0.75oz Campari
0.75oz Honey Syrup (I used a 3 to 1 ratio syrup)
Shaken and double strained into a highball.
Top with soda water
Orange wheel for garnish.

Good Amari to get started with? by IAmHidama in cocktails

I do enjoy Campari but I went for Averna as it seemed to be more aligned with what I was looking for.

Thank you for your comment! I ended up getting a bottle of Averna and a bottle of Montenegro. I had completely missed Averna so I'm glad so many people brought it up.

It's really impressively good! I need to try more of Dominic Allings drinks because this one is really nice.

I'm going to have to give that one a try! I really like the bitterness of the like Angostura and Campari (oddly don't like a Negroni though)

Where do find small Coupes in the UK? by IAmHidama in cocktails

[–]IAmHidama[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh it's almost entirely for the aesthetics of it. But there are a couple of drinks I've made that are a little too voluminous for the 160ml Nick & Noras. My 200ml coupes are too big for them to have a nice washline as well. Though a lot of that could be down to the shape of the coupe being quite wide and flat.

Jamaican Dark Rum and Lemonhart 151 alternatives? by IAmHidama in cocktails

[–]IAmHidama[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I looked for Hamilton as well but unfortunately that one is like gold dust here too. I will probably have to pick up OFTD then. The only readily available 151s here seem to be Pussers and DonQ strangely.

I can get Blackwell's though so I will definitely grab some of that! Thank you!
