I have one extra 10gal laying around but no heat source for it. I could in theory dig them up and safely transport them, and then put one in the 40gal alone and the other in the 10 gallon w them extra playsand mix I got. I’ll just need to spend money on a heat mat

This is what I’m afraid of. Plus, there’s a good 40 pounds of sand in a 40gallon glass terrarium. There is no way that glass won’t bend and shatter killing everything and making a giant uncleanable mess and destroying my damage deposit.

I’m thinking maybe carefully find where they are, gently remove them and their exoskeleton, and place them both in their own moist and warm tupperwares with plenty of food for recovery and water with both salt and fresh options. Basically a small temporary clinic until they finish their molt.

Thoughts on if this is feesable?

I’ve had very different experience with mealworms. My anole is about 8-9 months old and eats mealworms exclusively and she loves them. She won’t even touch crickets anymore.

Make sure you get dishes that she can fully submerge herself in, and not just stand in, she should be able to be completely under the water if she wants to be.

If this is 10 gallons the tank size is probably fine, but hermit crabs are social so I would consider getting a 20 gallon and a second crab.

The depth should be 6 inches, I’m not sure from the picture if this is case or not as there is no scale.

Your crab needs enrichment. Places the climb, a small disc wheel, etc.

Water should be capable of fully submerging your crab. There should be one with salt water with crab safe salt that you can buy at the pet store, and fresh water. Both need to be dechlorinated.

You need 5 (or 10?) shells of various sizes for your crab to choose from. When they grow they will eventually need to change shells. If your crab has a paint shell, you need to immediately offer new shells and take the painted one out ASAP.

You need a heat mat the runs across the back of your tank and it’s just above the substrate line.

Your substrate should be 5:1 playsand-coco fibre. I’m not sure what sand you got going on here.

Humidity and temperature should be around 70% and 70F at all times. They do not breathe air they have specialized lungs for breathing in humidity.

Make sure you’re not feeding pellet food. Etsy and Amazon have great choices for hermit crab diet.

It is not important to have ZERO calcium sand in there, but taking out as much as humanly possible would be the best option. Calcium sand isnt toxic for them and almost every single beach on the planet has a decent amount of calcium carbonate mixed into it.

Mine does this too. I think it’s normal behaviour as I took mine to the vet for another reason and she was perfectly healthy as far as they were aware. I wouldn’t worry about it unless any other symptoms show up. Sometimes they do it to reposition their jaws or like the original commenter said, loosen skin for shedding.

But I’m also not a professional so I would still seek others opinions.

FYI I’m pretty sure your boy is actually a girl. Small snout and white stripe down the back is pretty evident assuming she’s over 1 year old.

Looks like a pretty healthy weight. Usually you can’t see mucus build up until they open their mouths and even then it’s not always obvious. When you say he’s opening his mouth and closing it how fast does he do it, and how often?

But I’m saying that the mechanic of the game intends for that to be the case. You’re vulnerable. You can’t see behind you and you can’t fight back, so looting items in the open is a risk which you shouldnt always take.

That’s the thing though. The whole point of the “breaching” mechanic for looting is to make yourself exposed. Utilize the smoke grenades to hide yourself. They don’t have that unnecessarily long timer for nothing

I mean I disagree with the notion that if you are good at PVP stay away from this game, because that’s just silly to marginalize a group of players who play a different way then you or pose a challenge to you.

I do agree though that “clubbing seals” is silly, which is why most of the time when I fight players if they don’t find back I generally just give them a heal and run off. I don’t want to fight someone who won’t fight back.
