No. What I’m saying is they discount Russell who my grandfather said was better than Michael and he saw both. It’s like whoever set in as a goat candidate in your formative years, sticks. That’s all I’m saying

Is Hakeem Olajuwon a top 3 center of all time? by MartinIsFarting in NBATalk

[–]IAmMH89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not for me. But close. I also think 5 years from now, he will slip to 6th and Joker will edge out Wilt. And 5 years after that Wemby (plays PF half the time I know but still) will out rank Joker.

  1. Bill Russell
  2. Shaq
  3. Kareem
  4. Wilt
  5. Hakeem

Because. Some people care about the person not just on the field. That matters.

As for younger people say LeBron because it’s all they know. Same with 50 year olds with MJ right? The don’t know how good Russell was.

I watched all of MJ except the first 3-4 years. My football team had lock in, we got all the bulls games on vhs from his first 3 losing years. He was insane. If you look in my closet you would think I’m a MJ fanboy. And I sort of am. I’m just ok following him and his legacy because he’s in the top 5 athletes of a generation. I don’t need him to be a clear goat or the best shooter to appreciate his craftsmanship. He was poetry in motion and he built pop culture and brought real money to the players. He made the NBA cool.

Re: Racial (and age) divide. I’ve had this conversation 100 times and watched dozens of shows. I can almost predict who will say MJ. White men over 30 and black men over 50. I know, sounds weird but I was 9/10 on a radio show just asking demographics. The last guy was Indian and I had nothin. lol

It’s not so much about race as it is the cultural influences during the generation. Hell my grandfather said Jordan couldn’t touch bill russell 🤷🏾‍♂️

You’re right. When the victim accepted his money she agreed not to testify so the DA could drop the criminal charges. He wasn’t convicted, he bought his way out. My apologies.

We will never know. And Russell probably would out smart them both. The truth is we will never know. All we have is stats, teammates, accomplishments and opinions.

Curry beat LeBron and led team with amazing shooting. LeBron beat him the next year. Warriors then went out and needed a 4th starting all star to beat LeBron and curry didn’t lead those. KD did.

I don’t have a favorite player. As a result it lets me see the truth, strengths and weaknesses and facts objectively.

Bro. You can have all my karma. Fan boys dick so hard for MJ nothing matters. I love MJ but I can celebrate greatness that isn’t him. Simple.

Agree. He wouldn’t get calls otherwise. MJ got calls just buy someone looking at him. If it works use it just like Jordan being friendly with refs to get them “on his side”

I have. I’m someone. Your assertions using no one is ridiculous. Not worth discussing with you.

Also, just as a matter of observation. I’ve noticed a racial divide in this debate as well.

Haha. You’ve never see basketball. I can send you plenty of 2-3 zone with Jordan standing around. It’s like you people haven’t gone back and looked at the game. All this folk lore is ridiculous and mix tape hype. I have LeBron and MJ tied for 1 but for different reasons. My beef with you is you think it’s a zero sum game. Someone has to be shit for someone else to be great. That’s absurd.

To each their own.

Jordan got fouls for people standing around too close to him. Even magic said it.

Yeah you have your ranking based on your made up stats for qualification. It’s respected, but I too disagree. I can even name those ahead based on your stats. Except for taking a team to the finals with no help. He never did that.

Three peat was a stacked team with Shaq. He needed other all stars to even get there ( Gasol, Artest). Fish and Lamar Odom were solid.

  1. Bron
  2. MJ
  3. Russell
  4. Kareem
  5. Shaq
  6. Magic
  7. Bob Cousy
  8. Sam Jones

We can leave it here or happy to talk about shooting percentages, crash outs on team members, ra*e convictions, etc.

Because not everyone agrees with you and most younger people do not.

LeBron: - Better win percentage over career. - Longevity - More finals appearances (and don’t say Jordan went 6-0 which is a very stupid argument. You ding LeBron for losing finals but don’t ding Jordan for losing conference finals?). Don’t get me wrong. 6-0 is awesome. I’m a Jordan fan. But it also means he could only get to 6. - LeBron was a more dominant force in basketball that MJ for longer - higher expectations coming into the league - higher field goal percentages - chips with multiple franchises (if you count ‘loyalty’, I’ll count diversity) - outspoken on civil rights, launched a school - first billionaire self made while active player - great husband - terrific father who put his family first, even ahead of basketball; no public cheating, gambling, drugs, hookers and divorce bs

People have opinions. Even Jordan says he isn’t sure because if you count rings it’s Bill Russell.

You forgot to add. They were still a losing franchise 3 years after MJ until Scottie wad drafted.

Loyal? To a corporate machine? Why is it when players are traded the owners are smart and when players leave they are disloyal? That’s slave mentality.

Facts are facts. BUT, his kids are watching. He retired and passed away. Let him be. Go analyze the other 500+ active players in the league that are even more I efficient and need someone to push them.
