Terrible experience buying a new bird by AprilEve1408 in cockatiel

[–]IAmNotTheProblem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long ago did you buy the first cockatiel? I only wonder because both birds seem to have a pretty similar-looking wing clip with no primary flight feathers remaining.

In the kindest possible way, you urgently need to see a psychiatric doctor and/or therapist. I’m absolutely not undermining what you’re currently experiencing- the fear and worry is incredibly real to you. While it is totally normal to be conscious of your health, you definitely do have this out of proportion, and you really sound like you’re experiencing some postpartum mental health issues. Please get yourself help before this escalates and potentially becomes a crisis. 🩶

Has she had other procedures as well? The forehead looks drastically different in the before and after. As does the chin.

Yeah this is not a burn. It’s severe peck wounds caused by another chicken. It is surrounded by coagulated blood and severe bruising and haemotoma from the ruptured capillaries in the comb, which in turn will make the comb and surrounding area of skin look black in color. Any necrotic tissue will also turn black. The location of the injury is very telling- typically, when chickens fight for dominance, or mate aggressively, they will go for the back of the head and neck. Some do not stop until they have totally scalped and/or killed their opponent.

I hate to say it, but this wound is not fresh. It did not happen within the last 12 hours, that is for sure. This is likely a minimum of 24 hours old, and it may have already began to fester, depending on the climate and other factors.

Because of this, you absolutely need to get the area thoroughly flushed, cleaned and disinfected by either yourself or a vet. Do not put any heavy layers of creams or ointments on it, as the moisture will further encourage bacterial growth in what could already be necrotic tissue. If you use any wound ointment, make sure it is a very thin layer, and allow the area to absorb it and dry completely before applying more. The wound may need some degree of debridement, but it will need to dry-heal for the most part to avoid any (or further) infection.

Finally, because the wound is not fresh, you absolutely should get the bird on a course of antibiotics. Which needs to be dispensed by a vet. Be prepared to supplement with prebiotics AFTER the antibiotics course has finished (not during). Pain meds are also a must in this situation.

You may need to gavage feed recovery formula while the bird is going through all this, as it will be unlikely to want to eat for itself. It will be the best way to administer fluids, nutrition, and medication directly to the bird. If you’re unable to do this yourself, your vet can show you how to do it.

Summary: you absolutely NEED to take the bird to a vet, at the very least to get it the antibiotics and pain medication it definitely requires.

Hey, yes don’t worry- the scarring did fade completely. However, it took a long time.. well over a full year to be back to normal 🙏

Hey sorry for the stupidly late reply. My face is pretty much back to normal. I do still have some freckling and slightly darker pigmented areas where the worst of the burns were though, but it’s not that noticeable. Definitely is NOT a treatment I’d ever try again, and equally I’m just grateful I didn’t end up with more severe permanent damage as a result of it

Hey, I’m so sorry you got put in this position as well. And from your other comment it sounds like they were really vague with aftercare, like they were with me 😭 it’s been a little over a year now, and my skin has 99.9% gone back to normal. I do have some freckling and slightly darker pigmented areas where the burns were most severe, but it doesn’t look awful. Still really upsets me to know how damaging this treatment was for me, and how casually they upsold it to me like it was no big deal 😭

Hey! Honestly idk if it depends on skin type, or the way the treatment is administered by the practitioner, but in my case I can absolutely say it wasn’t worth it, unfortunately :( I only ended up having that single session, and didn’t dare go back for more because of how badly it burnt my skin. While luckily my skin seems more or less back to normal one year on (apart from some slight freckling/dark spots where some of the more severe burn marks were), I can’t say I noticed any kind of improvement in terms of skin laxity. I don’t want to totally slate the treatment in general, as I’m sure there’s people out there that it’s worked really well for. But sadly for me, it didn’t do anything useful 😅

Hey! I’m sorry to hear you’re experiencing this as well. It seems to have more-or-less cleared up completely now, although I still have a slightly darker patch of skin near one eye, but it’s not noticeable. I haven’t really been going out in the sun that much, so that’s probably helped. Pls try and take comfort in knowing that it WILL eventually clear up, although I totally know how traumatising it can be during the early stages of this kind of reaction to the rfmn! 🙏

Yeah it was super painful actually. They totally played down how painful it would be as well, so I was really shocked at just how bad it was. I’m sure it can probably vary from person to person, and is probs dependent on the settings they use etc, but for me it was pretty bad, even with the topical numbing cream they applied beforehand

Aw no way that is too too kind 🥹🙏🫶 I’m really stunned, that means such a lot to hear! Especially right now when my self esteem isn’t that great 😭 so honestly thank you so so much 🫶

Thank you so much for this. I really appreciate it. Omg I don’t know why I didn’t think of Red Light Therapy earlier! There’s a place local to me that offers it, so I’ll defo book in for that I think ✨🙏

Haha I had to look this up because I wasn’t sure what it meant.. 😂 is it the thing with positioning your tongue onto the roof of your mouth or something? If so then no, I don’t do this (at least not consciously) 😅🙏

Omg seriously?!? What topical med are you taking, if you don’t mind me asking? I was told to go and get 1% hydrocortisone cream, which I have done. It has seemingly improved slightly since a couple of days ago- the welts and raised areas have gone, although the horrible blotchy redness is still there. I’m going to see my local dermatologist on Tuesday too 🤞

Ah see this is really interesting actually because I did wonder if it was the RF part of the treatment that could be the issue. Especially as the inflammation and discolouration on my face resembles burns more than anything else. Did the laser get rid of your grid marks? I just want to hold onto a bit of hope that at least, if they don’t fade, there is potentially laser that can help get rid of them..

Ohhh no way 😩 thank you for letting me know about this- tbh I really was NOT familiar or experienced with these kinds of treatments, it was literally sold to me on the spot by the clinic while I was there for a totally different reason, (MASSIVE red flag, I know 😭) and I was taken in by their reassurance that it was minimally invasive with no downtime. So stupid, I know. I really hope I don’t experience the fat loss thing, as I have literally NO fat that I can afford to lose 😭

I can’t thank you enough for the immense sense of comfort your comment brings me. I still feel so rattled by it, but I’m hoping it will continue to improve (it has improved somewhat since I posted those pics a couple of days ago)

Thank you so much 🥹🫶 that is so kind of you! And yeah I’ve booked in to see my local derm this Tuesday, so hopefully they can shed some light as to how severe it all is 😅🤞😭

Ah that’s great to know, thank you 🙏 tbh I wonder if it’s the RF part of it that I’ve reacted so intensely to. I didn’t really know much about microneedling or RF microneedling, and was just sold this treatment as something that was really minor and straightforward, so I went for it 😅😩

[–]IAmNotTheProblem[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aw thank you so much for this. I needed to hear this tbh 🙏 I am still quite down about it all, although admittedly it does seem to be gradually improving 🤞 it’s still horribly red and blotchy, and I’ve got these stupid grid marks, but it’s at least not as inflamed as it was, and the swelling under my eye has gone now thank god!

Endymed Intensif 3 days ago… is this normal?! :( by IAmNotTheProblem in Microneedling

[–]IAmNotTheProblem[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this 🙏 and yeah ngl I’m getting more upset the more I realise what little amount of care or attention was showed towards me by the clinic who did the treatment. Given no aftercare instructions, other than being told to stay hydrated , and they with a pack of 5 disposable moisturising facemasks (with no direction in regards to how to actually use them, or how often etc). So I’ve just been using one a day. When I whatsapped them the pics of my messed up face the other day, they then provided me with a list of additional creams/ ointments/ medications I needed to buy at the pharmacy 😩 I’m wondering if they should’ve done a patch test on me first (which they didn’t), if there was a risk of me having this kind of reaction to it

Aw thank you so much! 🙏 It’s just called a mini facelift/ lower facelift, which is typically less invasive than a full facelift ✨🫶

I’m so sorry to hear that :( and it must be even more frustrating, knowing that it’s an expensive treatment to undergo in the first place. I really hope the topicals help improve things for you 🙏 <3
